That was fast! No sooner has Transformers Generations Selects Combat Hero Megatron shown off his dazzling self at the NY Toy Fair, (and thanks to Seibertron.com member TfanPage101 for bringing this news to our attention) - he then appears up for review on Youtube by reviewer Kevin Liu. The review itself is in Chinese, but features a healthy display of the box and comparison shots between the two decos of the figure. We have embedded the video below, but the original Youtube page can be found here.

Are you convinced to drop some cash on this release yet or does the G2 Nostalgia not hold enough weight to draw you in? Let us know your thoughts on this figure right here on Seibertron.com's Energon Pub.

Easy pass. This is an ugly deco. The bright green and purple of other G2 Meg figures is garish but fun. This one's just.. blech.

i hope they ditch the angry miner origin.

anyway... i hope that when this gets re-moulded as Armada Megatron it is a heavy retool. I like the body swivel tank turret from the origin it keeps him unique and not your standard arm cannon Megatron.

Its just one origin among others. I like the one where he is a gladiator and inspires revolution ala sparticus.

So we got the purple version of G2 Megatron from Takara Tomy in Legends, and now we're getting the tiger stripe version from Selects, but when are they finally going to give us the version we actually want?

true very true thank the matrix.

Megatron is villain so i wouldn't want to use the word revolution (that and he wasn't 100% successful in overthrowing the Autobots). Coup/insurgency/uprising are better suited for bad guys.

My apologies in advance if these seems redundant, however, in trying to process and go over everything that transpired at ToyFair over the weekend I was wondering if Hasbro mentioned any specifics in their panel as to the future of the Selects series? Will there be more entries? Also I'm a little disappointed they didn't retroactively go back and add the upcoming Riccochet and Red Swoop to the new Pulse site. i was actually thinking they would have made great *site launch* purchases, and a nice surprise as well, since they are supposed to be released in February, and the month is already more than half over.

IN any event, i hope they keep going with selects. Exclusives at fairly affordable prices is a good thing.

In 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014, and 2016. ;)

In all seriousness, that green G2 tank deco has seen more post-G2 releases (5) than either the purple Hero tank deco (4) or the gray w/ stripes Combat Hero tank deco (2).

The only entry they discussed was Megatron. Nothing else was discussed regarding the line from all I can tell following the event. I too think this is a super cool line and I look forward to seeing more from it.

And it's likely because of that figure that this new one has a new head based on that Legends mold's noggin instead of that of the original G2 Hero mold.

Yep. Both the Universe Legends (now Legion) and Generations Legends Megatron molds have really gotten around.

It's a spiffy little design, possibly my favorite legends class figure

Wasn't that the same origin? He was a miner and became a gladiator? Or am I mixing up IDW with something else?

Why not? Just because a person/group/faction starts a revolution doesn't automatically make them the good guys.

I dont think the use of the word depends on the intentions or the people behind it. Was Joseph Stalin a Revolutionary? What about Fidel Castro? The later is a divissive figure. And the downtrodden on cybertron (even Bumblebee in the latest show) were big fans of Megatron who was not always vilannous.

But thats another discussion.

I do want to adress your other part in saying he was not 100% successful because thats not true. At least not in several examples. In th G1 cartoon continuity, he won. The 86 film starts with the Decepticons having taken over Cybertron fully.

And in the Bumblebee film, it begins with the autobots losing cybertron and having to regroup. They act more as the rebels, with their secret bases. So these are two high profile cases (one would argue the most popular storylines) where Megatron has won his revolution.

Right and wrong depend on which side of the fence you're standing on.

Revolutions are not always inherently noble.

Animated Megatron was a villain yet he was officially viewed as a "revolutionary" by his equally-evil people.

Snagged myself a G2 Megs order, that arctic camo look looks really good on the mold! Glad I waited to get this version instead of the retail!

TR Megs will remain my main Con Megs for now, no Autobot upgrade hit for him get to go with my TR Leader.

Also stoked cause now I will have a voyager Purple and Arctic camo Megs in voyager scale, and legend scale green camo! I just need that green camo one upsized to complete the trifecta!

I hope that, when we eventually (probably inevitably tbh) get a new G2 Green Megatron, it'll be on a body that actually transforms like the original toy, with the tank front ending up horizontally as his chest front, and the cannon on the shoulder and whatnot. Would be nice to have 3 different modern Generations Megatrons on 3 different bodies.

Also low-key hoping we get another G2 Laser Prime on a new body more directly based on the original toy, as I don't think the retooled Octane body works perfectly for him.

Rumor: Is Voyager Red Wing coming to Generations Selects?

The character born from a BotCon 2013 comic error may finally be getting his first figure in Generations Selects! And, appropriately, we're learning about this possibility thanks to an error on Hasbro's part. When Hasbro Pulse first listed the upcoming Combat Megatron figure they accidentally gave the package content for a figure that is decidedly not Megatron.

Includes: Voyager Class Decepticon Red Wing figure, 2 weapon accessories, and instructions.

The page has been since updated with the correct contents; "Generations Selects Combat Megatron figure".

So why is this a big deal and who even is Red Wing anyway? Well for starters he was supposed to be an orange Seeker as the original incarnation of Hotlink in a collaboration between BotCon and Japan's e-Hobby which was going to contribute a new Sunstorm figure, both using the Classics Seeker mold. That plan would fall through and the name Hotlink would be given to the purple Rainmaker figure that same year. However, a cameo for the unnamed orange bot was planned for the BotCon 2013 comic in homage to their original plan, but after printing the character turned out red! And thus, Red Wing was born, though he wouldn't receive a name until fans spotted him in the comic and wanted to know who he was.

And it didn't end there. He would surface multiple times over the years, including a Japanese Kre-O comic and a character in the Transformers Legends game. Despite a strong fan demand a figure has remained elusive all these years. Could Red Wing finally be getting his first figure, likely a repaint of Siege Voyager Starscream? Time will tell. For now, let us know what you think in the Energon Pub forums below!
