This came to me in an official Selects box. I think this is likely the final deco, spelling mistakes and all. I agree with you though. Blue windows would have gone a long way to making this figure great.

Nothing special: de-i-se-pu-te-i-ko-n, or Decepticon

Interesting in that it's literally "Decepticon" and not "Destron," as one might think they'd put on there. But I'm definitely getting this guy, and definitely replacing the robot wings with something bigger, and bluer (unless, as many have suggested, they add some blue to him).

I bet it's Hasbro being cheeky, it works out as Generations in Japan uses the US names anyway.

I think the "Exhuast" misspellings might be deliberate, like an homage to the old Diaclone misspellings like "Marlboor" and "Citanes".

I love the idea of Exhaust as a character, but I feel he needs a more unique deco, as both him and wheeljack are both mainly white robots with black and red as secondary colors.
Maybe have Wheeljack rely more on green for the headlights, with a black windscreen and grey thighs/forearms, with stark white as the main color, while Exhaust uses red highlights, blue windscreen and black thighs/forearms with a yellowed white to imply a smoke damaged white paint.

He's tempting,that car mode is nice! But as I haven't picked up any Diaclone repaints so far, I'm not sure I want to start that particular addiction.

This is a total buy for me, he's got an epic head design...'nuff said!

As much as I've come to love and appreciate the Wheeljack mold, and as stoked as I am about Exhaust, I don't think I can justify double-dipping on this guy. Vehicle mode looks great but 'bot mode is lacking for me; even painting his wings blue would've sold it.

Then again, Nonnef Prod. is restocking their Exhaust set in July...

Skipping exhaust as I did wheeljack but maybe the Netfllix wheeljack may change my mind if I cave on the mold.

To be fair, both characters were based on mostly white vehicles with differing sponsor logos, and Exhaust hasn't had much of a presence up until a few years ago. But I like your idea!

And since you mention it, I wouldn't be surprised if they release a Wheeljack in Selects with gray forearms/thighs/head as an "animation model" version.

I'm not sure they'd do that, since Selects largely seems to be focused more on new characters rather than same-character redecors, but also because Earthrise Wheeljack is already kinda designed to be a mix between toy and cartoon (more toy in vehicle mode with the more properly-detailed livery, more cartoon in robot mode with the sparser colors and the specific amounts/shapes of red and green on the chest and legs).

Wheeljack's sparser colors in robot mode are one of the biggest faults in the diminished distinction there. That and Exhaust not having his customary blue glazing. Although even with those amended they'd still look similar... which is undoubtedly a big part of why Exhaust is SELECTS and not retail.

I like how Exhaust came out even with the wrong glazing color. I think I'll probably get him when I have the money. Sticking to the original Generations toy for Wheeljack.

I have not picked up ER Wheeljack because he just doesn't feel like the figure I want for my first ever Wheeljack toy! That's likely why I'm kinda low key digging Exhuast so much, even if he does recycle the shoulder pod thing. I guess this is likely also why I opted for Hotshot over Hound (nostalgia played a part too, Cybertron/Galaxy Force was a big part of my childhood) and frankly he wears the mold a bit better too

Why wouldn't just be considered another body-form upgrade of his? It's not like the guy kept the same body consistently across the Unicron Trilogy.

1. Because it's a downgrade compared to his proper Cybertron Defense body
2. There's no reason for him to change to it


Related aside: in my personal canon, Cybertron is a parallel-universe sequel to Energon. Aaron Archer tried his hardest to wallpaper and shoehorn it into being a direct one (like it was supposed to be), but the stupid amanojakus on the Japanese writing team broke that thread too hard .

Eh, it may not be show-accurate, but it definitely looks really nice. Hot Shot's color scheme just looks good on that mold.

Just gotta say that Exhaust has always had what is probably the contender for the coolest head design in the franchise and maybe robot designs period, it's amazing on how such a nobody character has something so iconic.

I have Hotshot in hand and his colors and new head really do make the mold his own, like who cares if it doesn't look exactly like a previous body, it's more likely a G1 version of the character anyways.
