So it's going to be a wearable thing you can pick up at the Convention like that Transformers Prime Matrix of Leadership Optimus from a few years back. Well done. Sign me up.
Oh my gosh it’s actually amazing this thing is real. And it’s so much better than I could have imagined I believe for the first time ever I may be interested in a repaint of the MP-10 mold. Also looks like a slight retool removing the autobot symbol on the trailer. And that roller is more looking like a retool as well instead of being an extra accessory sitting on top edit: Also hoping there will be a variant with the yellow/black striping around his waist like in the promo pic. If so it will be a must buy

They are not close at all. One is voyager, one is leader
I think the real question is about the scale. If the Ecto1 can basically enter Opimu's trailer, like the MP cars, then both are in scale with one another and will look GREAT togheter.
He’s a CHUG figure. His robot mode looks to scale with Siege figures based on the comic art.
But his vehicle mode is a large Voyager, which scales with MPs
On top of this, we don’t know what scale Optimus’ Ectotron form will be in the comics. Although he doesn’t look to be leader sized.
But the comics seem to be using Siege Chromia as Gozer’s Herald and the storyline of the comics go out of their way to give us a Ghost Tetrajet Starscream which would suggest a Siege Redeco.
The comics are using Sunbow character models but appear to have created a Sunbow splinter continuity where the Ark left for earth and Megatron and the Nemesis opted not to follow them.
As to why IDW would do that, I’m thinking they wanted Ectotron and Optimus to have earth modes like the toy and Decepticons to retain Cybertronian molds possibly for unannounced toys.

New pictures have surfaced on Weibo and while this is not the equivalent to an official announcement from Hasbro, some pictures do show the price and where it will be made available. One image shows it will be an SDCC exclusive. Will that mean it's very expensive? Turns out no. If the price is to be believed, this will be one of the cheapest releases of the MP-10 mold with trailer and easily the cheapest of the past 5 years. The price is $149.99 and comes with the trailer, Roller, an accessory that turns Roller into a ghost trap and a box that becomes a wearable proton pack. That is a lot of Ghostbusters love in one release. And I didn't even mention the Ecto-1 license plate we can see in Prime's chest. You can see all these features and accessories in the images below, enjoy!

Pretty sure the original question had the idea in mind of these two toys being 2 Ghostbusters on a shelf, so ideally being the same size. But they wont be, this is more like TFs with the ghostbusters theme and linking to the comic.

Of course, they are not meant as "Crossover" characters like those from the Star Wars and Marvel Crossover lines. As proper Transformers with a Ghostbuster theme, this work especially well.

The older voyagers (assuming Ectotron doesn't stand taller than his "mold mates") should scale decently with MP-10. Curious of the alt mode fits completely in the trailer with it closed up... I don't think the inner walls of the trailer are removeable/foldable are they?
