Top 5 Transformers Toys Wishes That Came True

Every two weeks, Seibertron.com brings you a Top 5 list related to all things Transformers written by me, your fellow editor. These are my opinions (just like movie or game reviews hosted by sites are still just the opinion of one person) so what matters most is what you guys think of the topic or list, and I hope to see your own lists or comments on omissions and ranking. Let's have fun! All previous lists can be found here.

Top 5 Transformers Wishes Come true

Let's have some fun here and look back at toys that were once only a pipe dream to man many fans, and that somehow came true. Once you are done reading the list, let us know of other toys that you simply couldn't believe were finally happening.

5. Transformers Masterpiece Optimus Prime (Convoy MP-01)

This was a dream come true for many fans, but the reason it sits so low on the list is because this is a toy we didn't really know we wanted precisely (until it was out, of course). I mean sure pie in the sky a nice big Optimus with light up matrix that poses super well and transforms just like it did on the show is something any fan wanted, but you could say that about any character, Optimus just happens to be the main one. And then after that, we just got more dreams of MP releases, many of which still have yet to come 10 years later (while we are instead getting the 3rd MP Optimus). But this was the one that started it all, an awesome toy that we could have only dreamed of before.

4. Transformers Generations Springer

Springer is one of the main characters of the Transformers film, a mainstay in the third season, one of the main bots in line to be a matrix bearer and the main character of one of the best Transformers stories of all time. And for 30 years, the only toy even remotely indicative of him was the G1 toy. Sure, Hasbro released other bots as "Springer" but it was always just a redeco of another bot and worse yet it was never a triple changer. He was either just a car or just a helicopter. But then the generations Thrilling 30 line came. It provided us not only a good to honest triple changer Springer, but it also gave him to us in a nice voyager scale and with design references to his appearance in The Last Stand of the Wreckers.

3. So many Shockwaves

For a long time (30 years), we just couldn't get a decent looking Shockwave figure. People thought, and it may be true, that it's because the original toy was not a Takara/Tomy product and thus there were some licensing issues at play that meant a design similar to the original may be caught up in red tape. But then we just got inundated with them. The past few years have seen Shockwave toys with robot modes much closer to the G1 character than ever before. We got G1 style Shockwaves for kids in both Cyberverse and the Cyber Battalion line, and we got 3 "gun" Shockwaves with the MP, Combiner Wars (which Bruticus can hold) and Siege. That's 6 G1 style Shockwaves in 3 years, enough to satisfy any collector or their kids at any scale.

2. Transformers Generations Arcee

While we waited a long time for a good Shockwave and Springer update, at least they had toys to begin with. Arcee was always a fan favourite and yet she had no toy of her G1 self for decades. But finally, in 2014, we got an Arcee figure representing her G1 self as the appeared in the film. It still feels a bit uncanny to have that toy in my collection.

1. Transformers Armada Unicron Gallery

Fans have wanted this ever since the surprising moment where we see that the giant killer planet Unicron, actually had a robot mode. There was a very well known attempt at such a toy in the G1 era and the prototype lingered in everyone's mind after being revealed in 1996 (10 years after the movie came out). A physical toy of what we saw could be achieved, but would be ever get it?! And then in 2003, it happened, we finally got our Unicron. Sure, it was meant for the Armada show, but the looks weren't that far off from the look of him in the movie (more accurate than that prototype anyway) and it truly was a dream come true. I still find a lot of that design to be genius all these years later, with the wings becoming the ring for instance.

Honourable Mentions: MP Blue Bluestreak

As written above, the MP line provided lots of fans to start wishing for figures they could never get before. This includes a masterpiece version of toys that were mere fantasy, like Blue Bluestreak, or the reintegration of Diaclone toys into the transformers Universe, or E-Hobby exclusives or toys that were previously rarer than chicken teeth, like Artfire.

Great list, especially the top 2.

I do feel like a representative from the original Classics line, or maybe just the line as a whole, needs to be on here. At the time, it just felt mind-blowing that we were getting these faithful new takes on the G1 characters.

Now if only they would finally make a reasonable G2 Jhiaxus...

Excellent list!

Would have liked to have seen Generations Jetfire at least get an honourable mention, with it's melding of Skyfire and Jetfire

Great list! It is completely bizarre that they never released the original Unicron toy. No one would have minded that he wasn't a 'like for like' replica.. No toy from The Movie cast was! He would have sold by the truck load regardless... #-o

It is sad that Arcee existed in the marketing axiom: "boys don't buy girl toys", for as long as she did. Ironic to consider her first official G1 toy was better than all her contemporaries from The Movie.

Never cared for Springer. But T30 Sandstorm is BOSS.

I paid the price to get my MP-01 Optimus Prime. I bought the Last Shot version as it came out and I never regretted it. Even though his truck mode is imperfect, he feel way better in hand than MP-10 and he's IMPRESSIVE.

As for Shockwave, remember a time when your only options for a modern Shocky were the Energon toy and the Alternator ones? And they were ludicrously expensive for it on Ebay?
Pepperidge Farms remember.

Arcee. I went 3P for her by buying Delicate Warrior for over 100$ some years before Gen Arcee came out. And when she did, I celebrated and bought her. I still have my Delicate Warrior and I'll never get rid of her though. I have chosen the Generations Arcee because her black highlights are cool and make her own character. Now, if only Takara would release a MP Arcee that would blow the current 3P offering out of the waters.

Unicron. I was about to comment on him even before reading the article. Glad it's #1. I have the Armada and the "Amazon" one. Both are awesome. But the thing I'm most glad is that I got the 3P accessory THRONE OF CHAOS that make a kick-ass planet mode display.

I kinda feel like the Binaltech/Altenators line should have been in there. We always wanted realistic looking cars that transformed in to awesome articulated robots, and that line delivered and then some. Hell, most of those figures hold up to today.

Alternators had hit and misses. But when it hit, it hit HARD! Some of those figures can even be considered like pseudo-masterpieces like Alternator Hound and Skids.

If the vehicle model happened to match the G1 one, then so yes. It actually did with Hound (Jeep) and Tracks (Corvette) and would have with Jazz (Porsche) and, surprisingly, the obscure Camshaft/Downshift (Mazda).

Awww this is the best! Great idea! And so many Shockwaves!!
Ok this is going to take some time to ponder I mean jeez what a great question...do I base this on representations of individuals or linewide gimmickry...personal choices vs. fan service my nerd brain is overloading here.

Ahhh, man, this is the best hobby.

I have to keep this to 5 or it will go on too long I mean every figure has its own story. These are also just personal choices, and very much in companion to what you all have already listed as many of those would have been in my top five otherwise.

5. Primus: To have an actual, official Cybertron with detailed cities that turns into an action figure felt like the perfect and really the only compliment to Unicron. And it was a great toy packed with features to boot. The very first thing we see in the very first episode is that darned planet and they finally made it.

4. The entire Animated line: To have figures, an entire series of figures that so closely matched their animated counterparts whatever that animated style may be blew my mind at the time. I was like, wait, this is like a childhood dream come true.

3. Overlord: Ever since I first learned of Overlord as a kid I always felt that separation, that division of what I could have and what other fans around the world could have. So when we finally got a real genuine Overlord in the Titans Return line, it was another childhood dream that came true.

2. Thrilling 30 Metroplex: And thus was ushered in the age of the Titans. A whole new size class. A whole ton of goosebumps when I first learned about him being released. The biggest Autobot ever was coming back? How?! He took the title of the biggest from Fort Max, no small feat (pun not intended, but effective) and really met so many expectations I had from something this size at this price point. I thought I wasn't going to get him then my wife secretly conspired with my best friend and his wife to buy it from Costco and surprised me with it during a real downer of a time that year. It was an absolute dream come true and a personal memory I'll always hold dear.

1. Power of the Primes Rodimus Prime: This again is personal. A Hot Rod that could turn into a Rodimus Prime. Effectively. Wow. Having grown up in a time when the best depiction of my favorite new character back then was G1 Hot Rod and G1 Rodimus, this was a big deal for me. For what it is, what it can do, and who it represents, this was probably the biggest 'dream come true' I can think of off hand.

I have to say though that Generations Jetfire, even before thrilling 30 Jetfire, was a dream come true. All previous versions animated and the first toy came together in an amalgamation that made my head spin.

Thank you for the awesome topic! I love this stuff ;)^

Yeah, I love this stuff too and really like going back to highlights of this great hobby of ours, glad you are here along for the ride. That's a solid top 3. I think the reason why Overlord wasn't as much a collective highlight for the community is because he lacked a lot of the original's functionality and shared a mold with another character. And while he is a great toy, his lack of individuality was felt, at least that's what I gather.

Ultra Markus wrote:i think if siege jetfire was already out it would have made the list

yeah, but at the same time the fact that we already had a Gen Jetfire in the meantime dulls the impact a bit.

Haha, yeah she does and that is quite funny. As always, thanks for the kind words ;)^

Thanks! I personally LOVE that Jetfire toy, especially for that aspect. But him being the first figure to show major hollowness, there just wasn't as much excitement for him. He was even called KO quality, which is why I thought he was better in my most underrated list: https://www.seibertron.com/transformers ... oys/37617/

That list also covers Alternators which weren't super well recieved by all. I believe there was issue with the price, complexity, transformation similarity, as well as issues with the molds used for particular characters (like Sideswipe or Windcharger) and the fact that many western fans were feeling ripped off compared to what japan was getting in the same line.

Good list. I still remember the 1st time I got my hands on 20th Anniversary Prime (Hasbro's version of MP-01). I was at Walmart in 2004, and went to the toy section. I found the spot for the figure, but it was empty. An associate just happened to be walking by and I asked him to check in the back for more figures, and a few minutes later, he came out with a Prime in his hands. It was a moment of pure joy as a Transformer fan, one I haven't experienced many more times in the last 15 years.

I do have 1 thing to pick on. That Arcee is NOT accurate, especially not to the TF:TM character. Nowhere on Arcee, robot or vehicle, is there any black. So why does the toy have black parts? Those could have been left white (or even pink) and it would have been more accurate.

Cool list. Some of mine would be:

Titan Class figures. Great to see updated City bots. Can't wait to get Omega Supreme.

Siege Ultra Magnus: finally a White Prime/Armored Magnus update. I really thought that CW Ultra Magnus/Minimus Ambus was going to be the closest I would get to that. Masterpiece nails both modes, but the White Prime armor up gimmick

Cybertron/Primus and Unicron: Planet Transformers. Hahahaha

Still waiting on:
The rest of the Dinobots: Masterpiece and Fall of Cybertron. It was nice to get the updated Dinobots in POTP, but the combination gimmick hindered it for me

Nice list! ;)^ For me I'm getting a bunch of my wishes filled by Siege.

A fully armored "white Prime" Ultra Magnus? Check!
A massive cartoon accurate "Skyfire"? Check!
A colossal Titan Omega Supreme? Check!
A proper Cybertronian Tetrajet mold? Check!

And that doesn't include things like Selects Star Convoy and Super Megatron or SS Devastator! Now I just have to wait for Titan Scorponok (sooooon) and a comic accurate Jihaxus and I think I'll have had all of my wishes filled... aside from a full set of Dinobot reissues, but some wishes just don't come true.

Aww right on that’s the best that you’re having so many pop up so recently!

Ok I’m also itching for a Titan Skorponok yer killin me right now, readin’ my mind. Now, if they do one Titan per series if we’re so lucky, like Omega for this series, then ‘blank’ for the next, then ‘blank’ for the last....man, Skorpy then, then, jeez, who else could they do? No, they wouldn’t redo Metroplex or Max would they? Another swing at Max I mean they could right so many wrongs. Madness, impossible, but I can’t think of a third Titan...Chela? Nah...Carcer? Maybe. Metrotitan Metrobase...Wait...Caminus? Sorry to ramble! I love speculating.

As much as I love TR Overlord, because it really is an awesome mold, I do have some gripes about it. I wish the Hasbro version had some with both Mega and Giga, like the Takara version did. And while he is a leader class toy, I do wish Overlord was larger, to scale better with the enormous God Ginrai, and maybe a little more complex transformation wise. Perhaps if he had been as unique a figure as God Ginrai.... :-?

Great list. Think most of the chug lines and the fact that I came to fruition fulfilled my wish..
Better representations of characters I grew up with and the original toys did not I’ve up to. Alternators first and masterpiece after filled the need even more...

Think ultra Magnus from CW and mp lines fulfilled the one wish I wanted the most, as he wasn’t just a white prime repaint. So many other figures tho, jet fire, devastator... octane v 2 etc

Great list as always Will, it was once again a joy to read (I hope you felt the same writing it ;) )

I agree with your choices, as I think those are all dreams coming true.

My personal pick for dream come true is the Masterpiece MP-10 Optimus Prime. That is THE figure that got me back into Transformers again, and I believe represents the very best of what Transformers can be.

Siege has had alot of dreams come true for me. Cartoon accurate Skyfire, Omega Supreme, a G1 Shockwave, and sooo many others.

A bunch of other dreams have come true for me, but I mostly recall these

Botcon 2016 Megatron. after seeing the mockup for the cancelled 3h Botcon 2004(5?) i wanted that figure sooo bad. and then Funpub (rip) actually made it in 2016......
..........and promptly sold out before i could get my hand on him because they lifted the 1 per customer limit on saturday morning and some dickhead scalper bought all of them before my mule could get me one. and his 300 dollar pricetag on ebay has kept it out of my hands for the last 3 years.

Unfortunately, some dreams can't come true anymore, with at least two of the dinobot molds stolen or lost to time.
