They're even the same person.

That doesn't surprise me, when it comes to these redecos of non-show characters.

Sadly, it seems this set was nearly a trio...

Unfortunately cancelled. The deco reminds me of Rhinox though, which is strange.
Samples do exist. We have a gallery.

That's just an unpainted factory prototype test shot.

Indeed. I'm curious to see how much it goes for?

I am surprised that a (potentially) transparent version was being prototyped though. That wasn't really a thing in the Transmetal lines. I think Quickstrike was the last one? It became a lot more commonplace in Beast Machines though.

With test shots colors are randomly picked, so they're no indication of any planned decos.

Good to know. Curious that Ramulus received potentially four redecos at all. I'm going to assume, much like Spittor and Iguanus' TM 2 upgrades. That the designers were proud enough of some of the non-show characters to go the extra mile for them.

The test shot is not an indication of a fourth deco. All it was for was just to give an idea of what plastics need to go where. That test shot would have been made even before the very first deco was put onto the mold.

That makes it even funnier how high the bidding is upto, for that prototype.

Some collectors crave those items, so it's not surprising.

That's the perceived rarity speaking, really. Plus the mere idea of having a physical item of a "classified" process.

I was half tempted. If it were a translucent prototype for a fourth deco. But as that isn't the case, it is a pass for me.

Meanwhile, a whole truckload of Beast Era test shots, prototypes, and unreleased samples (as well as those from other eras) were on display at RoboCon this year (click the pic to see full size):

Love the "please do not touch" sign

Green Ramulus is definitely something I'll have to seek out now.

Looking at that bottom shelf, do you think they will ever do something with the Mutants again? I'll throw Savage/Noble in with them too.

Probably not, but never hurts to hope. I want a non-GPS Sound Wave!

If we could just receive a checklist of all GPS afflicted Beast Era figures, fixed and reissued by HasTak. That would be great! ;)^

I think a 1 or 2 off on the mutants would be sweet. It's unique, it doesn't hurt to throw that bone every rare once in a while

Update!

For those that were curious:

B-E-A-YOOtiful!

And even more neat, unlike every other black-colored clone, Black Big Convoy is a heroic good guy.

I actually did know that, and it is beautiful!

I think that since I now have this version of Big, I might go all in and get the 3 mold repaints I don't have. I own the 2 Encore releases, which covers the original colors and the anime colors, and now I have the Black one. So I need the Nemesis Prime, the Ultra Mammoth, and Big Blue. And I think I might have gotten the most expensive one, which takes some edge off for the future mold completion

I am loving this mammoth. And it's also neat how different it is from Nemesis Prime.

It doesn't hurt to hope, but given their production history the Mutants are very unlikely to see new toys (unless Hasbro thinks of some sort of interaction gimmick for them), and are the second-most unlikely candidates from BW and related for reissue (the absolute most unlikely being their cousins the Animorphs).

Sabrblade wrote:Big Lots KO.

I own one and, aside from some slight remolding to remove certain joints and gimmicks, it's almost on par, quality wise, with the official version.
Damn! I miss the era of Big Lots KOs, never got to grab any for myself before the end.

The problem is if I buy him, then I will have to track down BC '16 Megs and especially BC'05 Deathsaurus. Who only comes in a boxset called: Descent into Evil. The "cheapest" one I found was $500...

I have Devil gigatron, and he is fantastic. I love that toy a ton!
He's pretty slick, but man do I wish the 3D modelling/printing crowd would get cracking on repro parts for him.

I need to photograph my BW stuff more. Optimus Primal and Dinobot at the least (Megs isn't going to be starring in photos until I finish building a replacement robot head for him).
