I'm sure this has been answered before but I thought I would ask it anyway why do the chop off the smokestacks on both reissue optimus prime and ultra magnus.

We're probably 2 steps from toy laws enforcing all toys to be made from foam.

Well, there was a study from an american universaty that put METAL into teddybears and gave them to kids.
They sayd that this would help them to stay fit!

I remember how pointy and dangerous(not to mention spring loaded) all the toys were when I was a wee kid growing up in the late eighties/early nineties and yet I got through okay.

I fact, I've never met or even heard of a real kid being put in a wheelchair or loosing an eye to a little missle, smokestack or whatever.

These safety laws as BS, and as for not selling realistic guns unless they have orange caps? did they ever consider that clever indeviduals within the criminal element might paint the end of their gun orange to lure us into a false sense of security and then... BAM! You jus dun got shot'n raept son :P

Is it just the US or are other countries requiring their toys more kid safe?

Most other countries in the 'Western' world have these restrictions as well, or somthing similar.

Most of the countries that have these laws, adapt them from the American laws, for release of th fdigures. I can see most Mexican made toys beeing banned in trhe US for failure to comply with Child safety laws.

But I believe it has more to do with avoiding potential lawsuits, than with real concern for the kids safety.

The US Justice system, is just to prone to allowing ridiculous lawsuits over ridiculous events. In any other country in the world, The fact that you burned yourself because you placed a hot cup of coffee between your knees is not grounds for a lawsuit, its just personal stupidity. Yet in the US, its a way to make a quick buck or 2 million.

Same thing with toys. Hasbro is trying to avoid lawsuits from store owners who shot a kid carrying a Megatron, or from enraged parents of a stupid kid that poked his eye out with a toy's plastic smokestacks.

Wow whats next we can't have any figure released in the united states that have die cast metal in them because some kid will hit another kid up side the head causing a concution. I think we are going a little over board as country in general heck we allow firing missle again why not larger smoke stacks, just look at the missles on the movie toys they aren't that big at all.
