Yeah, it's a tidbit underwhelming, but I'm not complaining at all. I'm really happy to have a CHUG style classic traditional Optimus either way.

A Commander Class would be cool, but really if I need a super deluxe trailer, I do have the MP trailer, so.... you know. That kind of does the job.

Here's an idea for Hasbro, why not just sell a "all the bells and whistles" trailer on its own at the Voyager pricepoint somehow under the Selects line. I say Selects knowing that they have not had any unique/new molds yet, but I think selling just a trailer would be a hard sell at regular retail. While the first version might be pricey on the molds, they could redeco it for Nemesis Prime and probably one or 2 more decos, and then co-tool/re-tool parts to make a Magnus type car carrier and sell a few versions of that one too.

So I just got grapple and it didn't even survive one transformation, the peg that connects his foot to his crane in vehicle mode snapped off in his foot, now it can't even use the combat system; thanks hasbro you suck

Speaking of the repair drone in Earthrise Optimus Prime's trailer being gray plastic and not blue, like the original toy, does the gray make it more "screen accurate" to the G1 cartoon? I've been trying to find a picture of the drone, which I'm not even sure was shown in the cartoon, but I've come up with nothing so far.

Sadly this is a common problem people are finding. It even has it's own paragraph in the TFWiki entry.

Many buyers have reported that the circular pegs on the base of Grapple's crane are much too thick for the hexagonal pegholes on the bottom of his soles meant to secure the vehicle mode, causing them to break when attempting to unpeg them during transformation to robot mode. If the pegholes seem too tight, it's advised to lightly sand them down before fully plugging them in to avoid this risk.

Come on, Hasbro, this is what test molds are for. Between this and Apeface you're really letting the quality control slip in ways it shouldn't be possible.

So trailbreaker looks awful per the hoist mold, streaker looks nice but his massively empty legs aren't super exciting me; are we really this far out form the budget allowances of the new price points that hollow limbs are already back in force :BANG_HEAD:

Don't think they look too bad, and that Sideswipe will look good with him (no they can't redco Sunstreaker to be Sideswipe before anyone points that out.)

Yeah, that Susntreaker does look pretty close to SIEGE Sideswipe. And also lawyerdodges differently. Sunstreaker has more overtly Countach wheels and windows than Sideswipe, but has decidedly different rear vents.

While HasTak are at fault for not adequately testing... given that this was an issue you'd heard about people having, you could have heeded that warning and taken the transformation slowly enough to test the fit (and thus stop when it became clear it was too tight, before the peg was all the way in).

If you're willing to take photos, I can advise on repairing it.

1. For those of us who like the look of the Hoist mold, Trailbreaker is handsome :P
2. Wheeljack's legs have exposed gaps too, in case you didn't notice. I think might be less a case of budget (Though that's probably a part of it) and more a case of the current design team's apparent allergy to telescoping legs.

I can forgive hollow parts when they're part of the transformation. Looks like his legs collapse the same way the Combiner Wars cars did. There's a lot going on with his feet, it almost looks like the top of his feet are the bottom of the car front. Instead of spinning his feet around they just mirrored it on both sides, I can't find the same cut outs on the hood as on his feet. That weapons has to go though.

So with some light sanding with the emery board on my pocket knife, I've got one peg all ready to go on my replacement grapple, for some reason the peg that goes into his right foot is way too big, but I've almost got that one sanded down too.

I feel kinda bad for stores, if they take a hit on these grapple figures, being broke and returned, I was 2 for 2 with this problem and mr and mrs random parent certainly aren't going to know about this problem; I know first production run syndrome is a thing, but this is ridiculous, I had an exploded shoulder on my prime too :HEADHURTS:

Just leave it on his back to poke up behind his head. Something just seems right about that in his case ;)
You're right about the tops of his feet being the bottom of his car front. The shape of the tops of his feet doesn't match doesn't match the transformation seams on the hood, and the position of the doors on his legs clinches it.

What was the big slipup with Apeface?

Major first-run errors are nothing new, sadly. Like this mess:
TFWiki wrote: Many Soundwave figures in the initial Galaxy Force run had a serious misassembly issue preventing the toy from correctly transforming into fighter mode. The large hinge bar that connects the upper torso to the waist is bolted crookedly on one side, making it impossible for the legs and the canopy to properly form the front of the fighter.

So looking at the vehicle mode for grapple, I think it could be remolded into a really cool darkmount :-?

Turn the crane into a cannon and rework the rest of the cab and body into a military half track :michaelbay:

I think you just made yourself mortal enemies with Rodimus Prime (as in, the Seibertron user), considering the nature of "Darkmount" and how several of the character's fans are already disappointed with currently-only toy being a halftrack rather than a flying cannon (although it can be configured as a flying gun).

With Apeface, the shield/rear wing is fragile clear plastic, and the fit for the Jet mode is snug. Plus, with the way it wraps around the cockpit, its next to impossible to rock it loose, and more than a few reports have come in on that peg breaking off in Apeface's back

Sunstreaker: ugh. Its a buy, but that weapon/engine looks more slapped on than the Universe version was and the lack of a spoiler is just atrocious. This looks like a mold intended for Sideswipe and redeco'd as Sunstreaker. I wish that they had molded the cartoonish engine into rhe back of the car itself. It looks like he has the swivel holes that Wheeljack did for his "wings" so they could have at least put in a spoiler for him.

TrailBreaker is a definate must. The intentionally ugly bot mode is great. I find the lack of the head piece strange though, they replaced it with a single gun barrel?

Ah, I see. Good to know. I take it it's hard plastic then?

Regarding alternate uses of the Grapple/Inferno mold... I would personally like to see the unreleased Landslide/Sawtooth deco originally intended for the Cybertron Mudflap mold:

 No, it doesn't, because the pieces are in completely the wrong place for that because Sideswipe has a completely different transformation. The supercharger looks slapped on because it's attached to a 5mm port designed to also work for the C.O.M.B.A.T. system rather than tabbed directly into the car back.
Flashwave wrote:I wish that they had molded the cartoonish engine into rhe back of the car itself.
They could have done that. But A. it might not end up in an ideal place in robot mode and B. they had to give him a handheld weapon of some sort, and there are plastic limits. That being said, they could have done with sculpting it to blend in better. Like, give it some curved ridges on the bottom to make it flush with the back of the car.
Flashwave wrote:It looks like he has the swivel holes that Wheeljack did for his "wings" so they could have at least put in a spoiler for him.
Possibly they could have. But on the other hand, his brother doesn't have one either. And plastic limits can be cruel... A spoiler would be nice, no doubts there, but...

Sunstreaker looks better than expected. It's nice that they designed the alt mode to (relatively) match Sideswipe. Upon inspection, it doesn't look like he shares any parts with Wheeljack, except for maybe some minor parts like the shoulder joints. There are similarities in engineering, particularly in their legs and torso, but I think 'Streak may be an entirely new mold. He does share one thing with Wheeljack though, a lack of decent weapons. :HEADHURTS:

I think Trailbreaker wears the mold better than Hoist.

As expected, I have zero interest in either of these. Nice to see that Sunstreaker does look decidedly different from Jackie though, and we'll probably get a look at how his legs actually work/look over this weekend if these two are being shown in Melbourne.

Flashwave wrote:TrailBreaker is a definate must. The intentionally ugly bot mode is great. I find the lack of the head piece strange though, they replaced it with a single gun barrel?

...I think the headpiece is actually there on the render, it's just obscured by the head due to the angle of the shot and it appears to be black instead of silver. You can see the corner of it poking out from behind his head if you look closely enough.
