Chinese exclusive Nezha: Transformers Series

Back in February 2018, we posted that Hasbro was going to do a Chinese exclusive initiative called Transformers Nezha. This is a crossover between the Transformers brand and Chinese mythological characters that will feature both a cartoon show and an accompanying toyline. While it didn't concern the west, fans were still curious as to what would come of this initiative since it would at least bring about new toys and characters.

Well, jump to almost 2 years later and thanks to a Tweet from Saberconvoy, we now have a look at these toys. There are probably more to come but for now we see a three pack of Lei Zhenzei, Nezha, Tu Xingsun. The packaging and instructions are clearly in line with the Cyberverse aesthetic and design. The figures themselves are rather simple too and look like upscaled versions of previous molds, at least with one of them which is based on Prime Legion Knockout.

The box art, at least, is brimming with personality for these new guys.

Will China ban it if we equate the one on the left with Winnie the Pooh?

Just needs a jar of honey accessory to throw it in that direction.

More new Nezha Transformers toys - http://brick4.com/search/set/?s=%E5%93%AA%E5%90%92%E4%B8%8E+%E5%8F%98%E5%BD%A2%E9%87%91%E5%88%9A&all=1

Specifically, just the first four items on the page, as the rest appear to be unlicensed stuff.

The four are new Lego-esque construction brick figure sets of Windblade, Bumblebee, Megatron, and Optimus Prime, all based on their Cyberverse designs, and all sporting the Nezha Transformers logo, Cyberverse art for Optimus and Bumblebee, and Nezha's own box art in their stock images.

I hope those toys can transform without having to reassemble them.

Where were you when Transformers had the Built to Rule and Kre-O lines?

no, I mean those are spec for spec lego parts, I'm holding some of them right now; I'm not talking about being a buildable brick system, I saying those are actual clone/knock-offs of lego pieces

Check your local Five Below or Dollar store, you'll find plenty more sets of that nature, even with more "advanced" bricks and builds. The new sets are no more complicated than Kre-O was though, but I'd wager the "new" bricks are either derivatives of the original, now public domain patent, or are public domain themselves.

We need an expert on this, preferably from the Lego fan base.

Unless I'm misreading it, the pictures say "reassemble".

Roundup of Transformers X Nezha Toy Reveals

Some photos cropped up online since the begiing of December regarding the Chinese exclusive subline of Transformers Nezha. I write subline because in terms of packaging and marketing, the Nezha line is being marketted along the Cyberverse line, with similar packaging and now Cyberverse characters/designs being offered as well. We see these familiar characters being offered as building toys, which fellow Seibertronian Sabreblade explains here.

We also have an image from Weibo where we see a Nezha figure that can fit inside a robot which turns into a car. The synergy with Cyberverse is present in this toy as well since that mold has the same transformation as the Spark Armour Bumblebee toy.

I know a lot of "interlocking building block" companies use similarly styled parts, but these pieces look like they are directly ripping off LEGO's molds  And I saw on TFW2005 someone had suggested a repaint of that new figure with the pilot could be Sari Sumdac and I have to say, that'd be an awesome figure for SELECTS

They are, though I don't think that's illegal either. Anyone know?

I don't care for the fake Lego sets, but that Nezha is a must-buy if they are available outside of China. Also, the idea of a Sari figure from this is brilliant!

So, instead of a Sari Sumdac transformer, people want a Sari Sumdac gundam? :P

Lego lost their patent (patents?): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_clone

Courts around the world reduced Lego blocks to a functional tool or machine, like a nail or a car. So it's fair game!

And don't forget Transformers Kre-o!

That Megatron looks kinda neat, I'll be real, and whatever her name is (the Chinese girl reverse-pretender) is a cute design and a cool concept. That aside though, meh. Not for me. I hope whoever wants these can get them but I certainly hope we don't start "losing space" on shelves to these. Not that it's likely as this seems to be a strictly China-appeasing series.

Does anyone else kinda want a retool of that Nezah figure as Iron Man?

Nezha is a male deity.

(His name is even in the topic title of every post in this thread.)

This only applies to generic bricks. THe joint parts and fingers have only been in production since the mid-2000s from exo-force. Patents usually last around 20 years, so these parts still are protected by patent laws, unlike the original brick, filed in the 50s. Kre-o used a different joint system for its builds compared to lego, with smaller ball joints and slightly different-shaped parts and a lack of ratcheting joints. Also the fingers differ from the exo-force style fingers, with figures having pre-molded hands differing from lego designs. The usage of these specific parts are still infringing on lego's patent.

Forgot to mention, windblade's joints are even worse considering they weren't made by lego until 2014

TL;DR bricks are ok to copy, fingers and joints infringing

"Nezha: Transformers" official trailer.

All of the new characters are figures of Chinese mythology adopting robot forms.

Nezha is obviously the small boy deity who becomes the red car bot.

The winged pink fembot is Xiaolong Nü, female protagonist of the 1959 wuxia novel The Return of the Condor Heroes by Jin Yong

The evil purple fembot/woman with the big headdress is Shi Ji Niangniang, based on her appearance in the 2003 Chinese animated series The Legend of Nezha, in which she was the main antagonist.

The big yellow bot is Lei Zhenzi, whom we've already seen in toy form.

The skinny green bot is Tu Xingsun, whom we've also already seen in toy form.

We now have our first trailer for the new Chinese Transformers X Nezha show. Fellow Seibertronian Sabrblade breaks down the new characters we see, which come from different parts of Chinese mythology and literature including the The Return of the Condor Heroes. We should be getting a full reveal of the accompanying toyline tomorrow so stay tuned for that.
