Alternators Prowl. Ugh. Talk about the exact opposite of a 'forgotten gem.' Unforgettable turd? To me that mold was the worst of the Alternators line. My favorite, though I don't know if he could be considered a forgotten gem, was Alternators Shockwave, followed by Hound. Ironically, I didn't care for Meister, Shocky's mold mate. Maybe it was the purple?

I remember at the time that if you swapped his legs around, that improved the look dramatically. Others also repainted the blue parts which also improved the look.

You know who needed improvement? Tracks. I can only imagine how many upgrade sets Reprolabels sold for him at the time.

You mean Alternator Red Alert with the Wrong Head? :-D (and meanwhile Red's head wound up on the bod that should have been Prowl).

Probably that combined with Jazz being bland since he was just plain white. Reprolabels' sheet for him to give him his racecar stripes was probably tied with the firebird for Tracks for their most popular offering back in the day.

Whichever. I just know I didn't even like looking at that figure.

Yeah, I figured it was that reason. Tracks, however, I liked the way he was. I know he could have used the flames on the hood, and I think Corvettes are way overrated looks-wise, but that blue is my favorite color, so he got a pass.

The Prowl mold is awesome. Appart the arm transformation who are a literal Chinese puzzle!

To each his own. ;)^

To me it's the only Alternators figure that looks like crap in both modes.

Know what?
This whole thread made me appreciate my Kiss Players Autorooper Atari set even more.
Too bad it was never made into an anime.

I'm really tempted to get this guy to go with her, but it's pretty expensive:

Unpacking them made me appreciate them even less and I will probably end up selling them.

You mean, wen getting one brand new?
In that case, it can apply to all kind of toys.

On my end, it's rather about unpacking the USED toys. I moved in this apartment two years and a half ago and I still have at least 3 or 4 boxes left of toys to unpack and put on display. But I have no room to display any of them because of all the new stuff I kept buying over time. #-o

The Kiss Players stuff.

Like all the Binaltechs, they're still boxed. I briefly put them on shelves and decided that they're just repaints, the molds aren't exactly the greatest, they're in robot mode as opposed to alt mode like the rest, to me, they just don't fit in ... I really don't need them.

I imagine an Alternators Laserbeak would transform similar to Booster X10.

Image

I'm thinking a convertible where the halves of the car would split down the middle to form the wings revealing the bird bits underneath. Perhaps the windshield could lay down flat and the trunk could flip over to partially cover the interior and reveal his trademark guns and rockets on the other side. The wheels could stay on the wings and sit underneath like VTOL engines. I think it'd look really neat.

That's why I only bought Autorooper. At least it have a new head, extra molded details, and an unique paint job. Having sold Jazz and Shockwave, he's the only one of this mold that remain in my collection.

I keep my Alternators collection at only one mold each so that's why I may never buy Alert because I already have Smokescreen.

Now that's a hidden gem. I still kiiiiiiinda want that figure- it doesn't fit with any collection, sure, but it's a cool concept and it looks so good!

Still wish they'd done the blue one in Binaltech :( Fantastic toy though, a really solid mold without some of the more pain in the shoulders bits that some of the line had.

Yeah. Baffling they didn't made Frenzy as a Bibaltech. Even as an exclusive like the insanely priced Nemesis Prime.

Also, yeah, pretzels Chinese puzzle arms. Many molds have them.

I remember this guy. For a time he was perched on the original MP Megatron's hand in my display (with a little help from sticky tack).

The Real Gear robots was a fun line, but there just wasn't enough in line with my interests (Classics, pretty much).

I've got my Booster perched on the new MP Megs. They scale well together in both modes. Booster was more articulated than I expected and is a fun figure. I forgot I had it, as I only recently picked one up on a business trip. It's the only real gear I've kept.

I stick mine with Music Label Soundwave. He's a little big, but both having real world music player alt modes makes for a nice pairing.

Technically the Real Gears could fit in with a Cybertron collection, since they're tail-end Cybertron toys that got held back and repackaged as movie figures (especially blatant on Longview, Zoom Out 25X, Power Up VT6, and Spy Shot 6).

I just transformed Ravage for the first time in years.

My intial reaction was "Bloody hell this is stupid and crap". But by the time I'd finished it had changed to "I don't know if this looks like crap, but it's ingenious, so it actually looks kinda good".

In all honesty, it shouldn't look as good as it does but they some how managed to pull it off.

Pictures don't do Alternator Ravage justice.
It's one of those toys that must be felt in order to be appreciated.

Like, you wouldn't think much of it, but by having the both the front and back halves fold pointing down into the middle of the body actually gives it that sleek jaguar look. So yeah, pictures will only show much, you actually need to be able to see it for yourself, to be able to turn it every way from Sunday to see just how ingenious a design it is.

Still prefer Rumble though.

Alternators Ravage looked pretty sweet in the photocomics I saw him in
