Ultimate Bumblebee: Anything Positive?

PostPosted: Thu Jul 19, 2007 9:27 am

I've read so many negative comments about Ultimate Bumblebee that I'd like to hear from those who like him and why you're gonna buy him. I'm curious: I like him. The only grip I have is that for that figures 1) there are no automorphs (think what a field day they could have had with this size) and 2) no battle visor.

But enough negatives! If you intend to buy him (and not from clearance because that's pretty iffy anyway) please let me know why.

I honestly think that they could have done a much better job on this figure and plus you can get a bumblebee '08 camaro figure for just $10 thats $90 less.

I haven't heard much - what negatives have you heard?

Thanks,
S.P.

He is big. Thats a plus in my bok. Haven't heard any negatives myself.

The negatives include:
Price (about $100, I've heard)
transformation (you take some body parts completely off, save for a wire keeping them together, and attach them someplace else)
Poseability (the electronic components get in the way)
Robot form accuracy (compared to the deluxe '08 version)

I already have him.

Appreciate the input guys, but is there anyone here who is actually going to get him and why, despite all the negatives? If too shy to declare your intention, pls PM me. :D

I don't know if I will buy him or not, it depends on if I have any spare cash by then, but I'd certainly love to have him, even if it was just for the Alt. mode. I love all things new Camaro, and he's quite the example of one.

I could do without all the silly gadgetry, but I think his robot mode looks cool from pics, and I'd probably have fun transforming him when I'm bored.

True. And he is big. Size matters!

he does look cool in robot mode, but i can't believe you would have to take parts off.
with that in mind, no thanks.

I think a lot of these negatives have come from us Brits finding out we'll have to pay £80($160) for the oversized transforming paperweight.

Thats more than I personally have apid to get any of the MPs I have imported.... How can he possibly be worth that much in a bricks and mortar shop?

I do plan on buying him, once he goes to clearance. (and he will.)

He suffers the curse of all Supreme (and beyond) sized figures. They sell in the beginning, stores believe it's a hot ticket item and order more. Then they sit and collect dust for months, and the price is reduced ("Wal-Mart, saving you more!") and reduced again and again until it's clearance time.

It happened with Classics Devastator, Prime, Jetfire, Megatron, etc.

It happened with Alternators (especially the last two. Ravage and Rumble are at a local WM in two piles for $17.00 per figure.)

It happened with 20th. Anniversary/DVD Edition Prime.

I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, Ultimate Bumblebee will go on clearance. No one (aside from a few hardcores and people with more disposable income than brains) will buy him at original store cost. $80.00 @ Wal-Mart, $100.00 @ Toys R' Us....that doesn't bode well for a TransFormer toy, especially after his predecessors suffered the same fate.

Anamatronics or no, he's just not worth eighty friggin' dollars. No way, no how.

I like the anamtronics, his goofy look, and the car mode. (Not too keen on the transformation, or how you complete it...doors and whatnot...) but I don't like it enough to spend nearly $100.00 on a single figure.

Many others have the same feeling about this and they too will wait for clearance. Yeah, it takes longer, that's for sure, but when it's a guaranteed thing, people are willing to wait to cash in on the savings, and they shall.

OUCH! That hurt bad!

Seriously though, what when the toys go on clearance, and a throng of waiting collectors are waiting for just that. Don't we have the situation where BB08 is gone in a flash? That's why I bought many of the TF movie Deluxes at retail price; because there's no way of knowing once the rush is on for clearance items I'd be left in the dust with nothing to show for it.

Not to be a jerk or anything, but why are we speculating on something that isn't even released yet?

Oh sorry about that. I forgot to lay the background:

1. Many people have seen that Taiwan video of someone transforming (very roughly and clumsily I might add) and playing with Ultimate BB. Based on that they've raised many negatives, called it crap, and already made the decision not to buy it. I wondered if based on that impression there were people who actually were positively swayed.

2. My friend's seen it in Hong Kong and told me it was really cool. Pre-ordered it and advised me to do the same. I just thought that some of you might have at least seen it because I've learnt a few people actually manage to get their hands on pre-distributed items long before they hit the aisles e.g. BB08. Arcee and Long Arm. Thought it'd help me decide whether or not to pre-order if I heard people's opinions.

Like I said before, I like all things new Camaro... And I think he'd look great being the biggest of my group.

I saw the videos, and I don't mind taking parts off as long as they go back on. It didn't look so bad to me. He's going to be in either camaro form or robot form anyway. How he gets there isn't all the huge to me.

The big one is a AMT/Ertl Concept Camaro model kit that was released back in November 2006.

The small one is a Hot Wheels Concept Camaro, also silver like the original GM show car.

Now if I get Ultimate Bumblebee, I'll have a king size. :D [/img]

I saw that video and two things worried me. One, that figure looked to plastic, and two, the color was too yellow. I like the darker yellow on the promotional photos.

I still have a pre-order of it thru Amazon. I just hope I am not disappointed as I was with Leader Class Megatron. Although Megatron is a bigger mess; the spring and hip fiasco I had to fix was just too much on top of the bad paint scheme.
