20 year old translucent plastic....

Well... it happened.

The balljoint for the roof section on my R.I.D Super SideBurn, just gave out and cracked.

He's been sitting on the TV dresser almost since I bought him along side his brothers, and now his roof just came off when In picked him up.

Not sure it can be fixed. That ball joint is a stress point.

Be wary of the Sideburn roof ball joint.

RiD Prowl's doors have the same problem.

Yes, and I'm afraid, I'm very afraid.

Though they don't seem to have any cracks or stress marks, and aren't quite as tight as Sideburn's roof. They come off easily from the sockets. Where as Sideburn's roof was really tight in there. I guess not as much pressure on Prowl's doors.

One can only hope, that means Prowl will survive.

Nit sure what will go first then, the rubber tires or the translucent ball sockets... :-(

I like that figure very much, but honestly the whole thing is flimsy. Ever since I've had him (going on 20 years now) I've always handled him delicately. So far he's been okay, but I'm always dreading it falling apart. I will take your post as a warning.

I can confirm this.

Indeed.

I've always been careful with al 3 R.I.D Car Robots. Was surprised when the roof just came off completely in my hand as I picked him up.

Most of him is a bit loose now anyway in robot mode, specially the neck ball joint. His head tilts back easily.

The Autobot Brothers are a painful object lesson in why rigid clear plastic and ball joints do not mix.

One would think they did during Beast Wars. Scorponok's Claws (the one with the bee broke on mine :-( ), Spittor (wife loves him), Ram Horm and Sea Clamp all use translucent plastic, and except for Scorponok, was replaced with opaque for their Japanese release. :-?

Oh, yeah. I rarely handle my Autobot Brothers and they still give me the heebie-jeebies the few times I still handle them. I don't even really transform them anymore.
