Can't say this news is too surprising given the anniversary year and all.
At least we know it won't be from the UM mold

Better be color changing so it can go from alive to dead. The new vehicle mode size will be a plus to me but not really wanting or needing another trailer even if they make it as snazzy as the last mp primes.

Not surprising at all. I'm actually sort of glad for this, since Earthrise Prime seemed weirdly iffy. But I hope this is it for G1 Prime for the foreseeable future. I mean, if he turns out as good as Rodimus or Ultra Magnus, then it's not as if there'll be any way to top this in any meaningful way anyway.

Another G1 Prime, huh? I'm on the fence, even though I'm really dumb with my money. On the one hand I already have both Siege AND ER Prime, so I have my G1 Prime. And yet, I'm curious.
I can't even be annoyed because it's Prime. But I can't be too excited either. Sure ER left room for improvement (especially if you didn't nab that upgrade kit), but it's also pretty good all on it's own and even got a reissue. AND Siege was very G1 all on it's own.

Called that a while back.
But now having, Armada Prime, and Ultra Magnus, not sure how a hollow box is going to use up commander class budget. Its going to have to have a ton of accessories to get there.
But Alas, its a G1 Prime, so I’ll need to muster up $90 bucks for him. Hopefully he comes out a few months removed from MP Rhinox, Would be a terrible hit to the wallet if they come out at about the same time.
Also, since this is SS86, how close to MP Prime is he expected to look?

Disappointing but not surprising. After WFC put out a trio of G1 Commanders (and Legacy made one), Commander class finally comes to Studio Series! What exciting new characters will they do now that they have the character rosters of numerous movies?
It’s just more G1 commanders, and redos of characters that got definitive leaders just a few years ago.

No, what's truly boring is getting umpteen copies of that stupid old camaro "Bumblebee" in SS, not to mention the number of Bayverse Optimus figures we've gotten. G1 Optimus is a movie character that hasn't gotten a figure in the SS line yet, but definitely deserves one, so this move makes sense.

I'm down for this. Not surprised in the least since it's Optimus - aka an inevitability for every last size, price, line, subline, subline sub-imprint, package refresh, licensed product line, and so on. Also seemed like a given once Motormaster and Ultra Magnus had a somewhat consistent truck and trailer alt mode size. Now OP can be that size in vehicle mode too.

ER Optimus and Kd Ultra Magnus were far, FAR from being "definitive".
Have solace in the fact that once SS86 is finally done, we may finally see the very first Bay Commander. But what would that be? Appart the TLK demonic combiner or maybe Dragonstorm, I have no idea.

KD OP isn't perfect but I don't think he's THAT far from being definitive.
Hopefully this'll be the final word on G1 Prime as a mainline release. He needs to take a bow. Seeing the old flatnose cab was refreshing at first, but WOW has it been overplayed.

DoM Shockwave with Driller.or just a larger more detailed Prime and trailer / weapons ring.

I don't think DOTM Optimus would be Commander material. Not only did the trailer was pretty complete, they even squeezed in the jetwings too for the previous Leader.
As for DOTM Shockwave's Driller, I could see that happening but only at the Core Class scale. The set would include a Core Class DOTM Shockwave too. The Driller would be non-transformable (a sin) but would have plenty of articulation points and moving parts. And to compensate that the Driller itself wouldn't transform, why not include in a Core Class DOTM Optimus with his trailer that convert into the weapons ring? That would be freaking awesome and we could recreate the movie scene.

Complaints about too many G1 Optimus toys. What year is it, 1994 through 2023 inclusive?!

ROTB Stratosphere could be a candidate, but Rise of the Beasts didn't do very well as a movie, not sure about the toylines. And Concept Stratosphere feels too risky.

I had been wondering about this release; a while back I started thinking this may have been false rumor.
It is a completely understandable move, anniversary year or not.
This figure is going to sell and sell well simply based on the character.
Sure the alt mode was probably a factor, but it was no surprise (at least to me) when this guy was made into that semi-recent Lego set-- in the realm of toys (and relatively speaking, in the realm of 80's culture and nostalgia), he's an icon.
I believe this is one even casual fans and non-collectors will buy. $90+ is much easier to throw-down when you're not also dropping hundreds on other figures throughout the year.
Since I'll never have MP-44 (I can't justify $400+ for a toy), I'm really excited about the confirmation of this figure. Prime isn't even in my top 10 favorite TF characters, but assuming this version is on point, there's no way I'll pass on this. It's an instant preorder.

For me it's a boring choice because I'm not one looking to rebuy the same characters over and over every couple of years. Now an update to an older figure from 5-10 years ago to modern standards, sure, I can see that appeal. And it's to the point where it just gets old to constantly see minor improvements each over a figure from 2-3 years ago, or be put into a higher class to justify charging even more. Meanwhile no proper Hound, Powerglide, Soundwave just to name a few. And that's not counting a much needed reissue of VW Bumblebee, Sunstreaker, Prowl, Thrust etc.
Heck I'd rather get a Commander Astrotrain then maybe they could get his looks/aesthetics and functionality done right for a triple changer!
Look, I get that prime it the all time go to for getting people to buy him time after time when they've already bought him last year, the year before and the year before that. But I would rather those resources went into something new, if not that at least not the same characters over and over.

I'm looking forward to seeing SS86 Optimus Prime after seeing what they did with Kingdom Rodimus. Optimus will definitely be bigger than the Earthrise release so I think it'll fit in well. I agree with the other voices that this should be the last G1 Prime for a long time, something I hope Hasbro would come out and say.
By the by, I haven't gotten an update to this thread in over a month if not longer, has this happened to anyone else?

Prime better be worth holding off on making DOTM Devcon or ROTB Stratosphere.

G1 Optimus Prime is one of the most recognizable toy characters in history. They are never going to be done making his toys. If they said they were done, all that would get them is the inevitable fury when they make another one.
The Optimuses will continue until morale improves.

The SS86 release might be related to this one coming out in the spring. Would definately be different than an Earthrise re-run.

It isn't. That's Missing Link, not Studio Series. Different line and unrelated to this. It's a TakaraTomy initiative that Hasbro has no hand in.

Don't know why people are surprised we're getting another Optimus at this point.
Didn't Hasbro say a while back that their gameplan going forward was to have an Optimus figure on the shelves every year for their main lines, because he's one of the most recognisable characters in the franchise?
Not saying "Don't be mad" at another Prime, we're fed up of seeing Shelf-warmer Bees here too

They're saving that for the Target exclusive

I'm not surprised at all. Or upset. Just bored. Yet another G1 Prime. I get why they're doing it, I just find it a bit boring.
Hopefully, like Magnus, I can get more into it when the time comes. ER brought a lot to the table, but seemed to almost deliberately miss being perfect.
