Which characters never got a good toy?

I was wondering this, which character do you feel never got an actual good toy? And I don't mean characters that never got a toy (like Tarn or Botanica) but characters that only have a bad toy to their name.

I was thinking...

Nightscream
Nitro Convoy
Thunderblast
Break
Airachnid
Wideload
Wasp
Elita One?

Considering Wasp's only figure of him as Wasp and not Waspinator got cancelled, does he even count?

I really want to add the Prime Insecticons to this, but I honestly have no idea what the quality of the Cyberverse Commander figure is.

I've always heard that the Cyberverse Commander is a really good figure, and the only flaw with it is that it isn't bigger.

I know many people were excited about the Micromasters coming back for Siege and ER. However, objectively speaking, I'm not sure how much "better" they were than their original counterparts, that was late in the series after the time I stopped collecting.

However, if most people were satisfied with the newer ones, then I definitely would like to see updates of the Operation Combination Micromaster 6-Robot Teams.

I was referring to the figure released as Waspinator. We all knew that was a toy of Animated Wasp. Also, it's not good.

While the TR mold's jet mode is laughable and there were some really dumb choices made, I personally don't see it as a bad toy overall.

IMO if even 1 mode is bad, then its a bad toy. And TR Broadside/Tidal Wave was bad. Considering the source material, I doubt there will ever be a good Broadside toy. But honestly, so were most of the other TR triplechangers, except maybe for Octane.

AOE High Octane Bumblebee, unfortunately.

The DELUXE Insecticons. I wouldn't say the G1 toys were "good" just adequate for their time. They're still bricks.

The Fansproject set were just repaints & ignored Venom.

The CW/TR Chop Shop sucked & was just a tiny crappy repaint/retool.

The deluxe Insecticons are #1 on my want list. :-(

I was going to say Bludgeon but the problem is less that he hasn't had good toys and more that he hasn't had a definitive one. The old ROTF figure looks amazing but the rubber is apparently melting nowadays, and the RID2015 one, cool though it is, is too small at least IMO.

Even if the rubber is melting now the toy was still great in it's time. I'd leave him out. Some toys just weren't meant to last.

How about a Dreamwave styled Fallen? The Titanium one is great for a Titanium, which is still just an adequate TF overall. Plus it's the wrong body and colors. It would be really easy to top.

The TR figure was a step in the right direction ala the Bot and Carrier Mode. But [points to image used] until the Jet Mode looks like that, he will never live upto his potential. Next to all of the Triplechangers have had one figure that really "nailed it". But not Broadside. As I've mentioned before, I think the problem is that he needs to be upscaled. Commander or Titan Class?

Yeah upscaling would help out the carrier and robot modes, but how would it help the jet mode? I mean, it would either be a really small carrier or an oversized jet that looked like a KO the same way Siege Jetfire did. That's what I mean by the source material. He's a carrier and a jet, it's just impossible to reconcile those 2 modes, and then throw in a robot mode on top? The only way I could see it work was if he was built like Star Saber or Star Convoy. The carrier is the large body, the jet is the smaller body that joins it, and together they make the robot. And when you separate them, the large body as the carrier can support the smaller body as the jet. That's the best I can think of. Unless, if the jet and carrier are the same size, you use them in differently scaled collections.

Upscaling him would give them more figure to work with, at least. To achieve something decent in all three modes. To that end, they could make him a bigger (albeit completely out of scale) Fighter Jet. Alternatively, change the jet mode into a "futuristic" Military Transport Plane.

A bigger jet that would mesh better with a Carrier altmode.

Yeah I thought of that as well after my post, he should be a massive transport plane, it would translate better between alt modes.

Exactly. The wings of a much larger cargo plane would easily shift to being the hull of a carrier.

Because, that "jet" mode, just doesn't work. There isn't enough suspension of disbelief in the world for it to be acceptable.

TR Broadside does get to claim the worlds biggest Headmaster, roughly the same size as Superion so he at least has that going for him!

Image

Let's face it, that figure is a mess that can't possibly be fixed and I love it for that. Even a jumbo jet wouldn't really fix Broadside. What I like about the TR figure is they didn't try to make a realistic jet mode which means you can just imagine it as a giant cybertronian shuttle around the same size as the Ark if you want. Think of the cockpit as a domed observation deck. If they ever made a new Broadside I'd prefer they just went all cybertronian, we're never going to get a perfect G1 version that makes sense.

Now, for my list:

-Any Action Master that hasn't been redone properly yet
-All of the Throttlebots except for Chase/Roadburn (though they'd have to redo him if new ones were done in a different style)
-Proper G1 Sparkabots and Firecons (DOTM and Botcon figures don't count, POTP Cindersaur is close, but not right.)
-Original Marvel G2 Decepticons/Cybertronians Jhiaxus, Rook and Mindset (no more Jhiaxus repaints of Starscream, though it sounds like we're getting another one. RTS Mindset is a great figure, but too "Michael Bay".)

Similarly disproportionate altmodes, yet his design works?

I've seen worse in other lines. The pre-Zyuranger Carrier mechs are just boxes with tiny wings and a cockpit if lucky. At least TR Broadside looks a tad more aerodynamic than that

As for characters that never got a good toy...

- Cybertron Lugnut
- Prime Airachnid

In all fairness, should we discount characters that got only one single toy?

Not really. That "truck" mode barely looks like a truck. The Titans Return figure pulled it off much better.

What about Rack'n'Ruin? Did his G1 self ever even get a toy?

I wouldn't have thought so. The title seems inclusive of singular entries.

The Wiki says no. They didn't even have an altmode in G1.

Yeah, the whole point for me is to see which toys would be worth it for Hasbro to redo rather than rehashing the same characters over and over.

It's the same idea as remaking good popular movies, wouldn't it make more sense to remake the bad ones and make them good?

Eliminating bad aftertaste takes a whole lot.

Here's another: most of the Beast Machines Maximals.

I only write nightscream since those characters got good toys. There are of decent Primals, Rattraps, BAs ect.

And someone mentionned rack and ruin, he actually got an ok toy in Cyberverse
