Optimus Prime Lego Set Discussion Thread

Promo Bricks is a fansite for Lego and it is reporting that there could be a Transformers Lego set coming rather soon. This would be set aimed at collectors with quite the hefty price point, featuring Optimus Prime. The full details are below. This might be in conjunction with the Rise of the beat film which was supposed to come out at the same time as this set, and Lego has been very well known not to sit on product.

Set number: 10302
Designation: Optimus Prime
Number of parts: 1508
Release date: May 2022
Availability: LEGO
Recommended age: 18+
UVP: 169,99 Euro

There are rumours of this figure coming with a jetpack and of it being able to convert but it's all hearsay for now aside from the details written above.

We will let you know more as soon as we have more info.

That MSRP is insane, Lego really has lost all touch with reality when it comes to pricing >:oP
Still cool to see an offical Lego Transformers set tho, but I don't expect this to be worth buying

There's a lot behind that pricing: the number of pieces it will have (and therefore the plastic it will consume), the licensing, probably being a relatively complex build - especially if it can transform without dissassembly - for adult collectors...

Personally, if this is true - and that's a HUGE "if" - I'm very happy for three reasons:
1) I'm a huge fan of both LEGO and Transformers, so this is a dream come true;
2) as a constraction fan - and yes, even if it's System I count it as constraction - it's refreshing to see a new LEGO action figure that's not a Marvel mech (even if it's still a licensed robot series);
3) it's a cooperation between two usually competing companies, in similar veins to Marvel and DC having their very first crossover between Superman and Spider-Man and deciding to do something similar every year or Disney and Warner sharing characters in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, something I wish I was alive to have witnessed first hand and find far better than usually trying to one-up each other.

This^

I think it's also an evolution of Hasbro's current strategy if licensing their brands out more, lego give Hasbro money either way here while it's up to lego to actually sell the product.

I know this is a loooong jump however.... while this set itself dosen't excite me, the prospect of an entire line does, especially if they get into minifigs again. I mean I tried to collect every Kreon minifig there is, last count was around 400, and I still never got the canceled wave 3 Kreon Warriors, though some did make it into production.

A whole line of official Lego TF minifigs would definitely reignite the collector spark that has been dimming for the past few years with minimal mainline generations purchases

I've been a long time Lego (and Lego compatible brands) fan, so I know how all of this works. To me it's just ridiculous how Lego pricing just keeps going up while quality keeps going down. When you see what other brands deliver and how their pricing works, it really puts into perspective how insane Lego's pricing has become.

But other than the insane price of this set (and Lego in general), I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
If it turns out good, I'll definitely be picking it up once it inevitably becomes available at the usual 30% discounted price

I don't think that's gonna happen. Lego likes doing one of licensed stuff (Sonic, Winnie The Pooh, Stranger Things, etc.). However I really like your idea, and would definitely be onboard with that, as it sounds much more interesting than just a one off set

Not to get off topic, but I've seen comments like this a lot (like every news article) on brickset.com and it's always people from Europe, so I'm wondering if this is a regional thing b/c every set that I've bought has been the pinnacle of quality (living in the states)

Back on topic, this is listed as being a part of the creator expert line, and they are almost always a one off, so to get a series (like the creator expert cars) would probably take a lot of sales

Odd, until you mentioned that, I thought all Lego were manufactured at their headquarters in Denmark, which I know has the highest of QC standards in recent years. Even a few years back, when I was ordering Lego in bulk to build the display base for my Kreon display, website orders were coming straight from Billund.

But I see more recently they have manufacturing now in Hungary, Mexico, and China. Maybe there are QC issues with the product coming from Hungary? Who knows.

I would think Mexico would probably service most of North America now being geographically closer, but I haven't purchased any Lego in about 6 years, so I'm not sure if the quality has diminished. Next time I go to Walmart or Target, I'm going to give a thorough look at some Lego packaging.

Yeah there are a lot of "one-and-done" license Lego sets, (Voltron that came out a couple years ago looks awesome!, and awesomely expensive)lets just hope this is the start of something, and not just a one off.

I don't wanna derail this further, but I'd be more than happy to discuss about general Lego stuff and my experience with the brand in recent years somewhere else :D

Mexico does produce Lego for all of the America's, this is why there was such a massive shortage of lego during the pandemic.

I think the best comparison for this is the Voltron set from a while ago. Big, fully changing and really expensive.

I'm curious about this, but probably wouldn't buy it. If I did buy it it would be purely as an investment knowing what some of these things go for on the aftermarket. I look at Lego on the shelves, but I just don't have the time.

Personally I am hopeful, if this is indicative of a possible partnership between Lego and Hasbro over the Transformers brand.

Hopefully if they do start doing sets based on transformers they'll take a cue from this guy https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAAn31 ... -Qg/videos

I watch a Lego Building YT channel, and the price is not the highest I've seen, just saying. I will also say that this type of set as high priced as it is will not be sold in regular stores like Walmart and Target, but rather through specialty stores (Lego has a dedicated store in one of my local malls) and online. Lego has a lot of themes and one-offs that are unknown to the uninitiated, including some high-end ones for ages 18+ (seen that Super Mario 64 ?-Block set? Mamma Mia!), which this set falls under.

And keep in mind if it is for the upcoming movie we got a triple-whammy of licensing plus his size and detail to consider.

The price isn't high at all by any standards. The brick price is still 10 cents per brick + license premium.

I wonder how fast pre-orders will sell out.

FYI multiple Lego reviewers broke the embargo date and took down their reviews. My preferred Lego site said their review will go up later this week. If Lego opens up preorders, they will probably go up at the same time.

I'm sure this set will need multiple production runs but it should remain available periodically and with occasional backorders for the next couple years. This set will also probably be available at other retailers including Amazon and Target. Point being: if you want it immediately, watch Lego's and fansites' social media for the formal launch. If time isn't critical, you can be confident it'll be available at list price sooner than later and that it will sell out only temporarily.

From hat I read, it will simply be out June 1st. You go to the Lego store and pick it up or buy it on their website.

It’s big, it transforms with what appears to be no partsforming, I get to build it from scratch… I could really just sit here and go on with the positives.

Hopefully this does well enough for future sets, I’d love a brick Megatron.
