The infamous MP-01/MP-04 misaligned chest issue

i've posted this question in the "repair" thread, but having seen a lot of posts on this issue on here and other forums, i wanted to make a thread about it:

i'm sure people are familiar with the issue circled in the pic above. Convoy just doesn't have enough "support" there, and his chest is "sagging" unevenly. unfortunately, the Transformers don't have their own version of Kramer's bro

does anyone know a good way to get Convoy's chest plates to align right? is it possible to disassemble the upper torso and bend the pin in the hinge of the chestplate? i want to experiment, but i also do not want to risk damaging the toy or losing any small parts.
i also am genuinely curious to see if anyone's taken the toy apart before and posted a breakdown of it online. so far, my google, wiki and even youtube searches have turned up nothing. i'm actually a little surprised by this.
so i guess what i'm saying is,
Masterpiece Convoy thread, GO!

Is that an MP Convoy or a 20th anniversary?
I got the 20th and it has the same problem. I wrote HASBRO about it and they said "sorry" and to send it back.

it's the MP-04 version (Takara's version with the Trailer). unfortunately, returning is not an option for me...

Mine doesnt do that, and i only have the hasbro 20th anni version (with added die cast long smoke stacks to make him look more Takara-ish). Fraid i dont know how to fix this problem.

Sometimes it's just a matter of making sure that he's correctly transformed and that his torso is all the way in, my 20th anni does it too and i push his torso piece in and it seems to fix it :/

That's not broken that has happened to me. You got to open the chest door that doesn't close. The grey rib part below the chest you got to press it up in more so it snaps in together with the chest. Then close the chest door ,and it goes in like the other.

i should probably take a better picture of the thing. optimus'/convoy's right chestplate does close all the way. that's not the problem. it's that the chestplate, when closed, seems to be bent at an upwards angle. in other words, it does close completely, but the way it closes is "angled". it's the same in truck mode.
i'm honestly surprised no one's tried to take it apart before. i guess considering the toy's value i shouldn't be...
edit: the pics of the MP-04 in the Seibertron gallery show the same problem.

hey fightinfilipino, we had this conversation last week about me getting a mp-04, and that you say the action hq was selling it very expensive. anyway how did you end up obtaining a mp-04 earlier than me(btw i'm still waiting from action-hq), where did you get it from, and how much was it including shipping fee?

i actually picked this up at
Otakon
the "shipping charges" were really my registration fee for the con and the horrible stench of thousands of sweaty anime nerds

. bought it from one of the vendors in the dealer's room. i managed to score what was probably the last MP-04 at the whole con.
problem is, i of course can't return it and i really would like to adjust the chestplate so it's aligned right.
if you are anywhere near an anime or comic book convention, i would suggest it if you're desperate or just happen to be going.

Push up the grey rib some more and you'll hear the click. You didn't push it up enough on that side. Thats why the door on that side doesn't close. Then close the door I say until you do that. If you want to solve your problem. Haven't I told you I had the same issue? That's how I solved it. It's your choice but that's what it is.

see, that's not the problem. the uneven chest plate happens even when the toy is in truck mode. the chest closes all the way and is "flush" with the inner part of Convoy's cab. i also made sure to push in the the inner gray "abdomen" parts enough so that they click and are overlapped by the red metal part.
i will post better pictures later tonight.[/i]

You don't listen cause you haven't even tried. So be it. But it's not defective or broken.

I think you're the one who's not listening. He said several times, that's not the problem. I know what he's talking about, mine is slightly misaligned as well, no matter what I do. It's just how the toys are.

i
have tried this. i did this
last night. i pushed in the gray parts right under where Convoy's "pectorals" are. i heard one click when the "headlight" flap went past the inside parts, and then another louder click with the gray part itself snaps inside the upper red metal part. THIS IS NOT THE PROBLEM.
did you read the part where i said
"this also happens in truck mode"? basically, the chest plate/window CLOSES FLUSH against the torso, but is
angled upwards. it is the same as what is happening in
this pic, except that on my toy the problem is slightly more pronounced.
aside from this issue, the toy is perfect and i love it. if there's any chance i can fix this small issue, it would be pretty awesome though.
edit: ahahahaha
kirbenvost
glad at least someone is getting my point. sucks that you have the same problem tho...

Alot people just can't admit when they are wrong. Thinking they are always right. I've realized that many times. I'm not going to get a headache over this it's not worth it.
man, what is your
problem?

SpacerAM2, if you'd pay attention to people's posts, you'd see that they
already tried what you suggested. Maybe it worked for you, but unfortunately it doesn't work for everyone.
fightinfilipino: I don't mind too much with mine since it's pretty minor, but it does suck that it's not as good as it could be. Maybe it's fixable if you can take it apart, but like most I wouldn't want to risk it. Sometimes pushing up or down on the window that's misaligneed helps, but it doesn't always stay that way.

Mine is misalligned as well but not as bad as yours. This happened to alot of the MP-04s. There really isn't anything you can do about it. Just try bending the lower door upward so that it isn't as noticeable.

Michael Bay really showed the Autobots valued sacrifice.
especially sacrificing all of the cool little scenes like that one in favor of scenes with pyoonee hyoomans

Pop it down open again the grey part. Then pop it up in again make sure it goes in all the way as it connects the upper chest. Put a little pressure. Until you hear two clicks this time.

That is the thing the grey rib got to be overlapped by the chest metal thing beneath or else it won't close well.
