New collector, A few questions

Just like to start off by letting you know this is a great site!

Ive been collecting Star wars figures and other items, most recently high end, for the past 4 years. I just recently, today, decided to start a small collection of Transformers.

I just picked up the Voyager class Ratchet and Starscream (namely because these were the only two I could find in my area). I really like these because of the poseablility and that they dont look too toyish.

Now I need a little help figuring out where to go from here. I want to get the rest of the movie seen autobots and Decepticons in their voyager class and smaller versions (for BB and Jazz), but how should I go about this. Should I keep hitting stores, or are the case assortments too limited, or should I stick to online. I also would like to know more about what are the better Transformers toys, for me I perfer, more detail and more realism. I know about the alternators and I will be picking up the SDCC exclusive. Any hints would be greatly apreciated.

As you can see, I am experianced at collecting, but I know very very little about the transformers line or even the franchise itself. I got all the original episodes and am watching through them and I love em all :)

Id hit the stores before trying to get them online, the Movie still has some sell left in it for a while, so retailers are not going to give up on this line like they have done for Pirates and Fantastic Four.

The line is supposed to last another 10-12 months, so if you have already missed a character, do not be too alarmed, chances are it will get at least another release (even if it is a repaint) sometime in the near future.

If you are patient, its possible to find all the figures you want without having to buy them online. I did, and it finally payed off by finding Bumblebee

Thanks for the info! Is the alternators line still continuing or is that over, I really like the look of those :)

Welcome to the boards, dude.

TF is nothing like Star Wars - you should easily be able to find anything you want at retail (except the latest Titanium) without having to order online, so I'd hit the stores.

If you like detail and realism, Alternators/Binaltech, Masterpiece, and Classics should do ya right.

It's all over.
Online stores are the way to go for Alternators, I'm not sure if they are still in on shelves much anymore.

Maybe sometime in the future they will be back, but not for anytime soon.

i agree alternators are almost real looking cars but the bot mode is a classic look but still great looking!

If you find them at the store get them. On line is a pain at times cause most of the time you have to pay for shipping also. On Ebay many of the movie figures are going for their regular price plus the additon of the price for shipping so far. Unless you find some cheap ones sometimes. There was dvd MP Optimus Prime last year at Toys r us for $89.99. Bought it on line instead for 60 bucks. Sometimes you can save yourself cash online though as well.

Welcome to the boards. as to what to what is available in terms of movie figures, the stores should be restocking their shelves within the next few weeks. If you want them to be somewhat in scale (like me) I went with:

Deluxe Bumblebee '76 Camaro
Deluxe Bumblebee '09 Camaro (don't have it yet; should be out soon)
Deluxe Jazz
Deluxe Barricade
Deluxe Bonecrusher (should have been released as a Voyager or leader sized figure)
Deluxe Wreckage (character dropped in movie but is in TF video game) awesome figure.

Voyager Ironhide
Voyager Blackout

Leader Optimus Prime (skip the Voyager sized one)
Leader Megatron (skip the Voyager sized one)
Leader Brawl (skip the deluxe sized figure)

Others figures loosely related to the movie:
Target Basics: cool repaints of figures from previoius TF lines. Exclusive to Target stores only. These are good if you want to check out some of the Energon and Cybertron figs before getting involved in that toyline.

Real gear: robots that turn into everyday gadgets. These guys are pretty fun. A definate throwback to some of the G1 toys.

Hope this helps.

Welcome Joshkj!

I just recently (last week) started collecting myself and man, have you come to the right place. The members here are just oozing with TF knowledge and love passing it on.

Ironhide was my first fig as well (and my only) and what a great fig he is. The only downside to him being my first was that he was a real pain in the ass for me to transform. It nearly took me an hour and the directions failed to help me. If it gets frustrating, just be patient and gentle. It worked for me, lol.

From what I've heard around here, Target would probably be the best place to look because not only do they have the movie line but also some pretty sweet throwback exclusives. TRU would be the next best place followed by Wal-Mart and K-Mart. KB Toys should be your last resort, only because their prices suck. Just keep at it and be patient cause toy hunting has as many upsides as downsides.

Keep in touch and let me know how your collecting goes. I wanna see if Ironhide was just as hard for another newb as it was for me.

Ok Ironhide took me 17 minutes but Im done! It was a doozie, I kept thinking it was broken because the blue connector between the torso and the legs really doesnt like to click in and stay, and the small gap between the chestpiece and the chin bugged me!

Well welcome to the forums, if you want to look at all the figures you can just go to Hasbro's Official Transformers Toy site you know. Well for a start Voyager Ratchet was a good choice... and Starscream not so bad either. It's quite hard to tell a person really what they want... because if I say the wrong stuff in which I like and you don't things could go wrong. So I will just make it brief and simple.

The Deluxe Brawl, Wreckage and 2008 Bumblebee which is said to be the best Deluxe... are very pose able and good. If you want a more bigger class maybe the Leader Optimus Prime or Megatron, don't have these but they look like a waste of time to me. The Voyagers are sometimes a bit weird here and there especially with Ironhide. Or if you are off the toy side... you can go with collectibles and get the Robot Heroes or Movie Robot Heroes, or Unleashed (which in my opinion is one of the best figures) even though it doesn't transform. Or you can do role play with the guns and stuff...

You got to go to SDCC? Lucky you!

How is it? And how much did the alt Rodimus set you back?
