Awhile ago we reported here that SOTA Toys had offically announced that they would be producing a chess set based on the G1 Transformers series. Since that time we have yet to see any pictures of the set. Now thanks to Asmzine.com that is no longer the case. Images of the set have been posted on Asmzine.com. Click here to check the images out.

It just isn't Chess if there aren't 2 different shades of squares.
The pieces aren't the most detailed, but they are nice enough. Still not worth the amount of money this is likely to cost.

It's hard to tell since they are pictures of pictures (probably losing details) but I like it so far. And it is odd there aren't 2 shades on the board...

It looks okay, but I expect more from a Chess set.

I'll just get some of those Street Fighter figures and be happy. HADOKEN!

As much as I like the idea, the board is a huge disappointment. Unless there is more to this. Even if the board was makred with con and bot insignas each square and whatnot....
I just want the figure, I cannot afford the pricetag.

Is it me or is that History collection [or was it bottle cap?] Prime?

I may get it, depends on the price...
I do like the character selections overall, though, and I think they look ok. I don't have a chess set, so maybe this will be the one for me.

Looks like they just took the HOC pvcs and turned them into chess pieces. I could do that. And they could at least have used Arcee for the queen and Black Arachnia for the Cons queen or something. They need better representation to peak my interest.

wow, what a rip off there re-using the heroes of cybertron pvc figures
you think they would make some more detailed high quality figures for it for the price!

I am looking at my megatron, ss and rodimus HOC/SFC chars and yes, they look pretty much the same as those. I honestly do not see very much difference in them other htan they are not as splay legged.

I'd pay maybe $40 for it.

Yeah, this is not going to be worth the price. They used crappy cartoon looks. Would have definitely preferred more detailed looks for the price they're gonna charge.

What are they using as pawns?
And will someone get that damn matrix out of Hot Rod's hands!

ive seen other chess sets that looks better than thsi spiderman, batman, lord of the rings for exaple pices are nice but cant tell what pieces are whos the pawn the king and queens is all i could figure out the other not so much and board itself looks cheap looks like something you would find in a transformers roleplaying game if they made one i expeefcted more detail on the board itself board should have been made into cybertron or something not the plain look. it looks more like there aiming for the childern with this set than the collectors them selves.

This is beautiful! The fact that the royal pieces don't duplicate truely make this a work of art! The Matrix has to be in Rodimus' hand to signify that he is next in line.
How sad do I find it that I'll never be abile to afford it at the price BBTS has it listed for.
That Grimlock alone would make it worthwhile.

I was hoping it would be more detailed than this. Beautiful metal sculpts...What they are showing is not something I would consider paying nearly 300 bucks for. I'll tuck those monies away for something else I'd like. Monopoly Perhaps.
