Ratchet's Hip

It's hard to explain but when Transforming Ratchet into Robot Mode his hip(the bit where its got silver, then black then silver again) seems to have a way to be plugged into that long plastic cord.
I'll give you guys some pictures but the question is, is his hip meant to be plugged in there or does it just sit there because when i plug it in it seems to be very tight.
