Primus a must have huh? TRU has him for $50 in a dinged up box, but I've browsed another board where people said he's been lowest at $20. I'll hold off on him, but thanks for the reccomendations

Personally, the vast majority of the line is well worth picking up. Id steer clear of most of the giant plantet tfs though, especilly metroplex..., terrible, TERRIBLE peice of transforming rubbish.
Personal favs include (in no particular order):
GF Convoy (ie prime, but with the cyber key actully painted)
Voyager Starscream (both the GF one and the US 2 pack one)
Wingsaber
CD Red Alert (aka Dildomatron
)
Swindle
The Scrapmetals
GF Demolisher (the crane, cant remember his US name)
Sideways
GF Soundwave (the missing paint apps on the hasbro version make the takara version easily better)
Red Alert
Hotshot
GF Landbullet (Crumplezone)
Downshift
There are others I want that if I had would probably be included on this list.
Stay clear of:
Metroplex
Most of the Armada repaints/remolds (except Blurr, great little hommage that)
Shortround (would be fine except for those STUPID bloody arms)
Any US version Vector Prime (stupid bendy plastic)

i really never got around as to what REALLY is metroplex. i just wish he had a decent alt mode, one that is easily more recongnizable. but a giant construction bulldozer thingy? come on they can do better than that.
oh and also stay away from menasor. it's a terrible waste of plastic, for it's size it's got a woefully simple transformation.
but i guess we really can't blame Hasbro on this, but rather to the designers of the Cybertron/Galaxy Force cartoons. heh.

O.k so Metroplex's alt mode sucks I agree. But he's got a lot of Potential. With Little Imagination he has a City Mode, and a space Cruiser mode. Actually 2. One that is more triangular, and one that is more like the Robotech Battle Cruisers. Long and thin. For Examples look for the Mis-transformed and Custom Transformations Thread.
The Potential is there. The Alt mode can be ignored.
His robot mode, is outstanding. His huge feet give him amazing stability.

The best thing about the Cybertron line, is that there was not a single figure that everyone would say "steer clear of, for it is horrible".
The problem you face is that many of the very very good figures were released in the earlier waves, so it may be a tad harder to hunt them down.
Scout:
Scattorshot
Shortround
Armourhide (movie Scout)
Swerve/Clocker (movie scout)
Hardtop/Swindle (Movie Scout)
Brakedown
Repugnus
Ransack
Scrapmetal
Deluxe:
Red Alert
HotShot/Excillion
Unicron
Downshift
Sideways
CD Hot Shot
Landmine
Voyager:
Vector Prime
Dark Crumplezone
Evac
CD Scattorshot
Mudflap
Ultra:
Jetfire
Leader:
Prime
Galvatron
Supreme:
Primus
Starscream (if you can get him really cheap)

Its life though huh? I'll take my time and check online for them at the same time as making the usual rounds. I'm not in a hurry.

Maybe not, but there was a significant majority saying that about Backstop.

I admit, Backstop did not get alot of love, but alot of people still got him. Many of them then complained for a while about it too
But compare him to the Cybertron version of Runabout, who cost twice as much. Backstop sure dont look so bad now, does he?

There weren't too many losers for Cybertron/GF. Damn near all the molds for the line were fairly impressive. A better question would have been which to avoid. Best of luck tracking down these figures man. Some are getting extremely difficult to impossible to find now. Online retailers are probably your best bet.

true.dat.
it seems that with the movie release, even non-movie related merch are being sucked up even by non-fans. i know, because in our local malls there were a lot of Cyb/GF deluxes (mostly cons: cannonball, brimstone, unicron, etc..) for MONTHS before the movie premiere here.
then after june 29 (local release, we had it early here

)- two weeks later, bam! no more cybertron 'luxes.
with that said, get whatever Cyb merch you can get your hands on before they all go kaput. the deluxes are all good with the exception of recolors - unless you're a completist.

Never saw that coming.
It might be worth your while to not rush out and go crazy on online stores, as the leftover Cybertron figures may get the same treatment as what leftover Energon figures received.
They ended up for sale at supermarkets, and discount stores (albeit for more or less the same price). It was about 6-9 months after they had been removed from shelves altogether, so around Christmas you may start seeing them re-appear.
