Titanium "Menasor"... WTF?

I haven't bought any TF toys since G1 and now started with the movie line. As it's fizzled out somewhat I decided to poke around and see what else was there I might consider, with a preference for robots that look good in both modes.
I saw a "Titanium Menasor" advertised but when I clicked the link, I saw what looked exactly like Rodimus Prime! Only in black. What's this about? I thought Menasor was the superobot formed by the Stunticons? Which incarnation is this from, and can anyone tell me if it's worth the $42 asking price? Other than that it's die cast, which is a big attraction for me, of course.

Menasor is the wrong name for it. It might make a passable motormaster though.

It's a SDCC exclusive repaint. And by "paint", I mean "slather", because I saw a display at the HST booth on Preview Night, and it was a pretty piss poor paint job.
Ultimately that's what turned me off from buying the figure.

Hasbro don't have the name Motormaster under copyright at the moment, but since there was a Menasor in the Cybertron range this is an easy way to extend the copyright on that by having another toy on the market. I think of him as Dark Rodimus anyway. If you've read any of the Marvel UK stuff that has Rodimus being slowly corrupted by a Unicron possessed Matrix then that sort of fits the toy. Looks nothing like the WW Motormaster design anyway, not sure where that connection's come from.

Agreed and this agrument has been made many times before when this figure was announced. Motormaster fits much better.

That's pretty much it, they no longer have copyright on the name Motormaster, so they decided to use the name Menasor - they then slapped a back story tech spec about them being merged into one being and you now have a new figure...blah.
At least he's not yet another Black Optimus Prime repaint.

Trademark. Not copyright,
trademark!

*ahem* Yes, Hasbro lost the name "Motormaster", so they're using "Menasor" instead, with Classic Legends Menasor as the first (Legends Optimus Prime with Motormaster colors)

Someone over at the TFCC checked, and there are over 1000 left. I say they should have done Tit Skywarp. I know they did a LOC Skywarp a few years ago, but I think this would have sold better then Menasor.

I just hate it when they take combiners and try to pass them off as a different robot later on. This "Menasor" might be a cool looking repaint but to me he has nothing to do with the original character.

You are correct I believe. It was the same problem that they had with 'Decepticon' Brawl. Should have just called him 'Stunticon' Motormaster or 'Decepticon' Motormaster and got around the trademark issues.
BTW I like black OP repaints to represent his death or alter ego nemesis prime. I would be all over a black MP-01 repaint.

Does anybody have him? I'm wondering if he's worth the $20 plus shipping.

I have Rodimus. and he's pretty good in both modes.
The only flaw is his gaping hole behind his chest, but other than that he looks amazing posed. has a gun (made of soft rubbery plastic...

) that can store in vehicle mode. And the entire vehicle mode, is contained in the Robot mode, with very little kibble to be seen.
So he's a pretty good figure overall.
Take him as a Dark Rodimus (Minion to Unicron) instead of Menasor and he'll work out very well.

I was just going to make a similar suggestion. Great minds, and all. At $20 I don't think I can pass this up.

He looks good, and I am tempted to get him, and ignore the name Hasbro gave him.
But Hasbro toy shop shipping is atrocious.

I like the paint, and actually like the merger story, but they could've tried to make it look more g1-erish.

I have the titanium Rodimus and love it, so I had to get this. Pretty moronic to call him Menasor though.
