The Altenator toys look awsome but their playability is horrible. I have Ravage and Grimlock and they are both hard to stand and they fall apart very easily.
What do you think?

Try Jazz(or Shockblast, they're the same car), Tracks, or Hound. They hold together well and stand up easily.

Some arnt great for playing. In fact they are all probably too fragile for traditional play but I dont think that is what they are intended for.

Hmm good to play with... I would have to say the jeep mould is good. Prime is pretty playable and so is Mirage. The earlier mould like the Subaru and Viper moulds were pretty much ment to stand in one spot. I would also recommend the Honda s2000 moulds. I found them to be fun to pose.

That's a horrible misconception of a figure with some of the best POA in the line. 90 degree knees, 180 degree hips, free range shoulders and elbows, spinning waist and tilt back neck articulation.
Sure the doors and floor panel skirt can pop off, but once you get use to the transformation, that doesn't even happen. Second wave Jazz's are worse for arm and doors popping off.
Besides, this line wasn't made for kids. Excessive playing never really was the goal.

MAYBE I JUST GOT A FEW BAD APPLES BECAUSE EVER SINCE I OPENED GRIMLOCK AND RAVAGE THEIR JOINTS WERE JUST VERY LOOSE.

The problem I have is that I use the transformation sound effect over and over for like five minutes to complete the transformation...
What?
In all seriousness, I am bummed that I transformed my Grimlock. When I first got him, he was a very tight Mustang GT. Now, he sits on my shelf with gaps in his body panels. Fortunately, my Hound is still pretty good, though again, it takes so long to transform him.

I display my Alts and Binaltechs... come to think of it i don't "play" with any of my TF's. i just like the detail of the robots and vehicles, and putting them into action poses.
Best point of the Alt/BT line is the choice of realistic vehicle mode or well designed robot mode, all of mine are in vehicle mode at the moment.

After you transform prime he dosent go back thats my only problem and oh the poseability is horrible.I do like how they are kinda a challenge but with the new movie toys the will be the most challengeing cuz i just hate transformers that are easy to transform.

Oh you do that too? I hate that........it' like transforming Omega Supreme w/the sound they used in the show when he transformed. Long & slow. Only time I can really use the sound is on G1's like Bumblebee & the other Minibots. But for the playware, I use Rollbar, Jazz, Richochet, & Tracks. They have relatively good posability. The one thing that annoys the pit out of me though is Jazz's gun. It never ever stays put in his hand. Richochet's on the other hand, fits & stays perfectly. WTF!?!? So I just switch thier weapons when I play w/them now.........Primus, even G1's have better balance than Alternators.............

I made a topic about this. Turn over Prime in his truck mode and push on his arms until you hear a pop. It will be perfect, now.

What is the point of displaying a tf in alt mode, particularly a really realistic one?
it just looks like a car toy, and because its an alternator if u wanna show some one how great a robot it is u have to ask them to leave and come back next week. the only vechical tf i display in vechical mode is powermaster prime-becasue everyone automatically recognisises him, and he transformers in a snap!

I really like the vehicle modes (probably because I love cars in general). The first thing that re-ignited my passion for Transformers was when i first saw Binaltech Dead End's vehicle mode, a black racing modified Dodge Viper with racing stripes. What more can i say

and it takes me less than a minute to transform.
Then i found out about the Subaru Impreza and Mazda RX8 which were my Fav cars due to their unique abilities, the STi Impreza that is 4WD and can change between Front and rear wheel drive to match your preferance, and the RX8 with its unique rotary engine and body shape and was chosen to be a prototype integrated with Hydrogen fuel cell technology. imagine my surprise when i found out that they too were TF's, G1 TF's none the less
I love watching the faces of my family members and friends when i say "How do you like the cars, pretty sweet right?, u now they are transformers?" then i transform them, and the look on their faces is priceless. Even people who don't know about TF's show respect to the Alt/BT line.

I was going to say the same thing. I too made a thread, just to state the solution.

The Alternators just require some skill. Learn the general patterns to how they transform, and you can get them back and forth into vehicle and robot modes flawlessly. Their posability is nothing short of incredible, and their durability is high. Last year, I set up a dance party with all of the Alts in plausibly human dance positions. Prowl and Bluestreak were doing the Charleston together. The Charleston, for godsakes! Ironhide (=custom Prime) fell off my highest bookshelf, and I simply snapped back together the pieces that were designed to come off.
Sorry to hear you have a loose Ravage and Grimlock. I have Wheeljack and a custom Decepticon 'Stang, and they're both pretty tight.

Alts are serious business. No play time, just standing there and looking sexy, except Prime, who scratches from being... standing? Gawd I hate him, yet I love my Sunstreaker, pitty I only have two alts, gotta get more
