OK, so I got my 20th anniversary Prime and my Titanium Menasor yesterday, and I was going through the Prime galleries and was looking at the Masterpiece. Every little detail (aside from the trailer) appears to match the masterpiece...are these the same mold? Sorry, this probably came up when one or the other was brand new, but my search has not been able to come up with a thread.

20th anniv. and the masterpieces are like 99% the same, minus paint applications, smokestacks and small stuff like that.

if you read any review (google for it) it will tell you the differences between the 20th anniv. editions and the MP's

It has been reused again most recently with the anniversary Movie edition Optimus, released in Classic packaging. It has lighter color apts, doesn't have the battle damage spots, and his gun his blue instead of black.

That is 20th anniversary DVD edition and features the "Cartoon" coloring of Optimus prime (lighter red, white paint apps. instead of gray and gray instead of chrome details.)

What he said. I only saw it once at the local Books-a-Million with the other TF merchandise.

This is the one I have. Got it a Hasbro Toy Shop. I found a 20th anniversary Prime that I guess was released in 2004, that is not the one I have. I got DVD (not included) type packaging.

I'm not sure I like him all that much, though. I could just be doing it wrong, but the alt mode doesn't feel "solid"...his arms have alot of play in them and it doesn't feel like it wants to stay in place, his feet fall off at the drop of a hat, and the legs are a real pain in the butt when it comes to sliding them up. It's like you have to apply pressure "just so" to get it to work.

I understand he's a collector's piece. I've got him in what I think is a pretty cool-looking robot-mode pose and he's going to stay that way heretofore, I just don't like that he's not really solid. Maybe Leader Prime spoiled me...

The DVD Edition one isn't very good... cheaper quality and ugly color scheme.

My 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime is very solid, and I'm sure the Masterpieces are good as well.

That's just it; I don't know how much of my issue is the specific SKU or the mold in general. I'd like to think that one of the most revered TF toys ever (the MP-01) is better than what I have, because what I have just isn't that good. I'm not going to part ways with him, mind you, he's just not exactly what I had hoped for based on chatter around here.

autobot commander - I'll let you be, I just disagree. Maybe you have the regular 20th anniversary rather than the DVD release, or a MP-01 based on the same mold. I'm open to the idea that they're better than this. Especially MP-01, since he has the trailer that fits the Alternators so well. :D

actually that's MP-04.. but .. we'll let you go on that ;)

I personally think my leader prime is inferior to any of the MP's. especially in the hip joint section.. although movie prime can move his arms better (stretch into a T for instance) but I'm not sure if the extra kibble (moving armor, wheels behind his legs) are a bonus or not.

Still, both are quality products but any of the MP's will have an imposing visage compared to the somewhat small-headed movie leader prime.

I have the 20th anniversary edition, and mine is kind of like that. One foot will fall off during transformation, the back portion that hides the head in truck form also falls off easily. However, I dont' have any problem with his legs, you do know you have to push in the fuel tanks on the legs to get them to slide because they lock into place, right?

the backpack is a known issue, the notches are to small to keep hanging on .. so it's a good thing it pops off before the notches break.

I have the leg problem too. pushing the tanks isn't hard, but the legs just won't budge until you push the legs and the tank simulationsly.. kind of like a child-lock.
one of my tanks is budged too, it's always half-in (his left leg)

That's the point, it is a lock, you have to press the tanks and the legs in simultaneously. If you force it without pressing the tanks, you may break it.

Yes. I know it's a lock, but if I press the containers first and then try to slide the legs, nothing happens.
if I try to slide the legs first and then press the containers.. nothing happens. It requires a minute precision of sliding and pressing and the same time. sorry for my bad wording of that process in my previous post.

No, that's quite alright...my instructions are about 180 miles away, along with the toy itself, so I can look for myself if I ever go home again. :-?
