I have a sudden interest in the Classic line....
Is it too late to hope that they reappear in stores?
Do I need to resolve to ebay?

Resort to ebay? Probably.
Unless stores have a case that got lost in the warehouse, or some old stock left on shelves, you're sol.
Check the online stores first. I think Hasbrotoyshop, TRU and Target still have some listed on their sites.

I think the Classics line is finished in away as in nothing more to come. There are some spares in stores but the shops are now focusing on restocking the Movie Line 2007 mainly.

at this point ur best hope is probably online stores and ebay, but before u try that just visit a couple stores, see if u get lucky, this past weekend i went to a walmart supercenter in search of movie toys and ran into a classics jetfire, so just try to see if u get lucky, and just want to ask is ebay the best way to get a classics starscream right now?

I know the Transformers Classic Line is discontinued, But I went to Kmart the other day, never ever go in Kmart, but it was on the way home,I was bored, they had a shipment of Classics Deluxe Transformers, I managed to grab: Classics Starscream, Grimlock, Mirage, Rodimus (aka Hotrod), Astrotrain, and Classics Voyagers Optimus Prime and Megatron, they were all priced at 9.89 each except for Prime and Megatron priced at 16.99. So I think every now and then Kmarts will get The Classics Line, So check you local Kmarts before Ebay, Starscream alone is going for 25-40, so make Ebay your last option.

You could also try Amazon.com. I just got Astrotrain and Cliffjumper there for $9.99 each.

Try some other types of stores as well. I saw Classics in Suncoast Motion picture the other day. More expensive than Wal/K mart or Target, TRU, but cheaper than eBay, that's for damn sure.
