What Classics could have been

Looking at my G1 toys, it would cool imo to produce a line largely copying the original G1 but with added articulation. Take Prime for example. Keep the exact same overall look, but add flip out fists, a head that turns, some hip joints and knee swivels and bingo, a modernized classic toy that still looks like the original. I have nothing against current Classics, I'm just suggesting an avenue that could also have been explored.

I thought the Classics were just fine as is, IMO. Sure certain thinngs might have been done differently but they are great. Can't wait to see more next year!

I was just disappointed that there weren't more originals. Too many repaints and crappy minicons. Would have love to see Grimlock with different foot design and then add the reset of the dinobot team too. Oh, and one last thing, it sucked that all the seekers weren't made available to the general public. And that's all...

thats exactly what i thought the classics should've been too. figures like grimlock, mirage, and megs were just horrible but jetfire, ramjet, and screamer were excellent. prime and bb were average so i guess the line will never please everyone, especially g1 guys like myself. also i agree with devastator in regards to that damn target exclusive 2-pack. i didn't even see it once in store. store exclusives=total retardation.

I thought Mirage, Bumblebee and Prime were all great figures. They all have great design elements to them.
In fact Grimlock and Megatron are the only letdowns for me out of the whole Classics line.

I would have liked to have seen Grimlock look more like his G1 TV appearance, where the head flips back and the chest swings open to expose his robot head. But he's cool as is.

Well, you do have to remember that a lot of the realistic styled cars in G1 would need to be licensed from car companies and they probably would not okay cars that they don't put on the road anymore, as many of the old alt modes are a good twnty year old car designs now.

Yeah Classics has my favorite designs. I have Ramjet, Starscream and Astrotrain. I'm looking forward to Universe/Classics 2.0

I've actually managed to pull that off, though I'm not done with the legs/tail yet. I'll tell you this though, it ain't easy to pull off.

Well that's really cool. Nice job, although much like the G1 version, the back looks way too heavy now...

Damn I gotta buy that two pack. People complain and say they are bad figures, but they look so damn cool!

Except that it looks like total crap in alternate mode. That's not what I call "copying the original with added articulation". It's more "making a cool robot that transforms in a floppy rolling garbage can with a retarded gimmick".

Asides from the issue of quality, it's near enough exactly what you described.

No, what I said is to take the original toy and add some joints, not to completely redesign it.

wow, excellent kitbash! aside from being kibble-worthy, that's actually a much better representation of what grimlock shoud have been... i never quite managed to get past those jaw-feet. LOL.
keep it up, and keep us updated of your kitbash.

Yeah, he's kind've on the back burner right now, because I'm at a bit of an impass at the moment. The feet have consistantly been giving me a problem. the original plan was toi make the transformation of the legs into the tail just like G1 Grimlock, that turned out to be impossible, so i had to come up with another solution, but even that leaves me with the problem of designing and attaching a tip of the tail. I still have to skin the legs too.
