08 Bumblebee. Where did that name come from?

When and why did everyone start calling BB's 2nd alt mode an "08 Camaro"? I've done a little research and have not found any official material that says it's an '08.
On the toy package (Both Ultimate and deluxe) it says "Camaro Concept Mode". In the novel it says "Camaro GTO". Every referance online calls it a Concept Camaro. No where but here have I seen it refered to as an 08 Camaro.
My girlfriend works for GM and has looked up the history and future of that particular car. It was built in 2006 on a Pontiac GTO frame, technically making it an 06 Camaro GTO. The car goes into production NEXT YEAR for the 09 model year, so the production model will be the '09 Camaro.
So, why does everyone on Seibertron keep calling it an "08 Bumblebee"?

I guess because we were mistaken in the beginning, and now the name's stuck. I guess if the car was going to be an 08, it would be out very soon, if not already. *shrug*

Heh, funny how it got the name. It's kinda like sports video games, where the season starts in '07 but it ends in '08.

Yes, we're all idiots, it is technically going to be an 2009 model year car built in 2008. The history of how he's not really even a Camaro can be found here:

Everyone types "08 BB" cause it's easy and everyone knows what that is. From now on I'm going to call it "CC BB"

because the camaro was supposed to come out in '08 but GM is so slow at getting a concept into production that its getting delayed yet another year...
On that note the first solstice concept came out in 2001, and didn't go into production untill the 2006 model year

I dunno, a lot of people just kind of magically started calling it '09 Bumblebee lately. This sucks for casual fans like me who then think, "What, there's another BB out? Different from '74, '08, and FAB??"
The speed and breadth of the 'web lets stupid ideas spread really really fast.

Well, as an employee of Ford Motor Company, I know that an '09 would be released in mid '08.
And here we would refer to it as an '08, because it lets us know that a particular vehicle was of an early run.
GM generally releases around the same time.
So, technically I'm not wrong. Just the rest of you.

I always called it the 09 Camaro, but I switched to 08 because everybody else was calling it that.

I just know it by concept camaro as it's not out yet (will start production mid 2008). I've been reading on the new camaro also as I want to buy one in '09.
So I just call bb concept camaro (I'm sure it would say that on the toys).

I don't really care what he's called: '08 BB, '09 BB, or Concept BB. He's one cool car any way you look at it!

Why??

Why is everyone so upset about this little detail... I was more upset over the "Devastator" /" Brawl" thing.
It's Bumblebee... before the movie no one cared what "year" or model a Transformer was/is. It's just a toy, it's just fiction, so RELAX!!
The new Camaro WILL be released in '08. Will it be called an '09? Probably. Who cares?!?! Sit back, get your Bumblebee (if you have one), transform him a couple times, bask in his coolness, and get on with your life!!
I have to say this is the ONLY thing I have to hate about the movie.... What ever happened to Transformers simply being cars and trucks that "kinda" look like this car or plane?? Lord knows I never heard people stressing out about anything like this back then.

c'est la vie

Actually, it's a '76, not a 74 or a 77.

Consider this, having the movie characters using real car designs actually goes all th way back to G1, and is more of an homage than using generic cars. Remember, all the G1 characters taken from the
Diaclone line were patterned after real vehicles, not made-up ones.

Very true...but we all know that was before automakers and the such were licensing things OR at the very least they weren't lending their names to anything. We KNEW what they were, they just never admited it LOL... They were "generic" but not I guess you could say. But you dont see anyone trying to figure out or debate that G1 Prime was a 1982 Freightliner or something.

I think back then companies were just happy to have their cars made into toys, it was like a free promotion then!

It will be called whatever the date the New camaro is released, It's a concept, but since it's everywhere but the car dealership it could be '08, '09, even '10....
