one of the figures i've been waiting on was literally 20minutes away from me earlier...but ups feels the need to drive 186miles out of the way to another city before coming back this direction

All depends on where the facility is. The package absolutely has to go through a shipping center near the delivery point before being sent there. Most times when it's coming cross country it's on a giant semi, not a little UPS truck. Sucks I know.

I got some software this month from California... It came up to Windsor, ON at which point according to the tracking it was shipped to Ohio and then to Illinois before putting it back to Windsor, ON. It made no sense.
The other thing that bugs me is that when you get things here in Canada, they have to do the duty and tax thing, which is fine, but they go through their own broker and charge you for it. The amount they charge you is usually greater than or equal to the tax and duty! Meanwhile if someone ships to Canada using USPS, they use Canada post to do the duty/taxes and they do it for free.
It always has me wishing places would just all use USPS...

Yea whenever I have to do a International FedEx I have this BIG (we get a new updated one every month) and I have to check for weird things like that, so I can warn a customer if theyll have to pay any extra...Duties and Taxes are so lame.
