I have a serious question for you guys

First off hi! I have been lurking and learning for 2 weeks now and you guys and gals have a great website going on here. I am a 7 year member of camaroz28.com and stumbled onto this site by accident.

My question is, do you folks collect your toys for personal value (taking them out and playing with them) or for monatary, (keeping them in the package). I have the whole collection, minus dropkick and a couple of the Target ones, but all mine are mint. I love the Transformers and totally dig the G1's of years past. Since this was my 1st post I wanted to make it a good one :P
You folks are great and keep up the great work!!!

Personal value. I play with them now, just like I did as a kid. Especially the Classics.

I only have 1 mint figure, and its a '74 Bumblebee. I'll hold onto it for trading later or something

Peronal value...or more specifically nostalgia. They are fun to transform though!

First, welcome to the boards! Always great to meet a new collector and a kindred spirit!

Like some "older" collectors here--I'm 32--I really got into collecting in the past decade to basically recapture my youth and relive the glory days of toys. TFs were always my favorite as a kid, then they changed and went away. When they came back with the Beast Wars line, so did my childhood. The rest is history (and @ 1,000 TFs).

I guess you could chalk me up to the sentimentality camp.

Personally, I have toys from when I was little (20 year old G1 Optimus Prime) and new ones. Toys are meant to be played with and thats what I do. When I get to see my 8 year old nephew I bust out the Transformers ( I converted him  ).

There are people like the "40 Year Old Virgin" that keep it all mint, and there are others that play the figures like the stock market. It's all up to the individual.

Take the path you desire most and stay true to it. Now if you can sell something you bought for $10 for hundreds, Id do it LOL

Yep, my good ol' Tallgeese. I stopped collecting them before highschool, but now in college I have spare money to spend on TF's and Gundams. It's the nostalgia for sure.

I plan to take all mine out and play with them. Right now, most are still sitting in the store plastic bags because I have nowhere else to put them.

On a somewhat related note, I am annoyed by people, when they find out I take the Transformers out of the box, say, "So, you're not collecting them." Uh, yeah, I am. I'm collecting them for me. Not for a future eBay buyer.

Personal value because of the memory assiated with my childhood they nothing like ripping into a transformers package and doing that first transformation.

Personal value, I have no interest in sitting on my figure waiting for a profit, I tried that one with 20th Anni Prime, lasted almost a week before freeing him.

I collect em for me and my future kids if they get into it aswell. Also do projects with certain characters like stop motion or nonsense silly comics.

I definitely collect Transformers for personal value. There's nothing better to me than freeing a TF from its plastic prison and beginning that first transform.

I just enjoy playing and posing them and creating the huge battle displays I imagine in my head.

I collect them just because I love them. Most of mine are loose but I keep a select few in their boxes. I never plan on selling them so it's definitely not for monetary value. And like a lot of others it brings back the nostalgia from the 80's.

I used to have a ton of Transformers when I was a kid. Most of them are broken and long gone though. I played with them hard as a kid. the sandbox was one of the daily battlegrounds. I only really started buying TF recently. So far I am only buying the 5 autobots from the movie, and only the 1 version of each that I like best.I may or may not buy more until the next movie. That being said TF had many of my all time fav cartoon characters. When i was ayoung teen I liked Beast Wars as well. I never bought any BW toys though. I still got some of my old characters in a box. Most of them arent in good shape. Speaking of that, if anybody needs a character for parts or just to fix up id consider donating if you pay shipping.

And oh yeah, I should answer the question. I buy the movie autobots for the reason I buy my puppet Master Figures, and Jason figures, and so on. I like memorabillia from movies, shows, and video games I like.

I have gone down both paths. I buy 2 of everything if I can. So far I have 2 ea. of every movie toy. The shelf in my closet is looking very busy right now!

I have an old dresser that I don't use ... which is where I keep my loose TFs. 1 drawer for autobots, 1 for decepticons. 1 mixed drawer for all alternator/BT.

I started getting into the classics line out of boredom. Just something to buy while waiting for the movie toys that I still need. I only went for 1 each of those to keep MISB, but after opening prime and being VERY impressed ... I shall double up them as well.

I found a lot of cybertron scouts class at TRU, picked up a few of those as well. Just the cool ones.

I'm slowly learning that I don't have to be a completest with every line. I will with the movie line, but others I will just get the ones that I like.

I've finally weened myself from being a completest, the freedom offered by not having to own all show figs is wonderful, I can dip into the last few lines and get the molds that I like where as before I would of compulsively got them all, damn obsessive compulsiveness!

Personal value of course! Not one of tfs hasn't been transformed within the last 24 hours!
