Now I can appreciate anything that transforms. its all fun and gets the imagination going but damn, that beastwars series is sooo damn fugly. I was just viewing the gallery and I have no idea what the interest is in that line of figures.

Thats all.

Guess you have to see the Beast War series to get into the toys. I started collection TF's after seeing Beast War back in the day and it been down hill ever since. I more so love the Transmetals TF over the first batch but they are all kinda of cool.

Hmm, maybe the gems would give you a better impression of them. and of course it helps if you have them in your hands - compared with the current movie line a lot of them actually have a lot more play value for kids.

My personal favourites are:

Ultra Megatron

Ultra Primal

TM Megatron

TM Primal

TM2 Blackarachnia

TM Cheetor

TM Tarantulas

Fuzor Silverbolt

It's these toys that pretty much got me into Transformers (didn't have any idea about the machine aspect for ages). I had no idea about the story, and I didn't care. These toys were great action figures, full stop.

Coming out of G1 Brickformers, Beast Wars gives you something special. Since you're new and all.. i'm guessing you don't have much other than the movie line. If you do have something else other than the movie line, you have to realize that the movie line has the shittiest plastic you'll ever see. When it comes to other lines, like beast wars, the plastic was freaking great.

Beast Wars was the best toy line ever. They brought on a different style of transformers, with balljoints, etc. Season 1 of Beast Wars brought some of the most realistic toys out there. Ironhide looks like a real Elephant. Season 2 brought on Transmetals which were crazy back then. And Fuzors? They were great, combining two species of animals into a mutated one. Actually the one thing I enjoyed about Beast Wars throughout the whole entire series was that it brought so many toys... I swear there must be over 100+ different transformers toys from the Beast Wars era. There are so many great Beast Wars Transformers, and what I really enjoyed Beast Wars for is that it was aimed at the collector. They had the best techspecs ever, they still had beast-formers that could combine, and they're one of the most natural looking toys out there.

Plus, who cares if the figures are ugly-looking. Transformers isn't a beauty-contest, it's how aesthetically pleasing a figure can be.

As much as I enjoy the movie line, I agree 100%. The QC is atrocious, and the plastic is poor on most toys. To me overall Beast Wars and Armada/Energon/Cybertron were the overall best toylines. The tech specs were also way more developed, with a 'clip and collect' gimmick, like you could make your own database of your toys. Come on - at one point Primal had 10+ for every single stat except rank, which was 10. If he wasn't (storyline wise) so tiny, I'd think he could beat up Prime!!!

Even the packaging beats down the current movie line boxes just thanks to their greater effort in making it as fun as possible. No one takes the technical data for the figures seriously because it's just done as an afterthought on these movie toys.

2007 Leader Prime and Protoform Prime are still my favourites though. :P

Overall quality? Beast Wars is one of my fondest childhood memories. Thank you for giving me so much fun, Primal and Megatron. I'll miss you.

I cant totally appreciate the switch from blocky g1's to what beastwars brought, i just think theyre god awful ugly lol.. I wouldnt mind picking one up just out of curiosity and try one out myself but id keep the reciept.

Another thing that might have affect my opinion is that Im really into cars and anything with an engine and animals dont really do anything for me.

whoa, settle down a bit on the beast war issue iheartarcee.

i can understand that you're new to the TF collecting hobby, but i definitely recommend watching at least a few episodes of the Beast Wars television series with an open mind. also, while you're at it, pick up a copy of Beast Wars: the Gathering by IDW.

when BW first started airing, i was against it too. i mean, Prime a gorilla? TRUKK NOT MUNKY!!! but 11 years later, when the toys were no longer produced, i started watching a few episodes of season 1, and man, was i HOOKED. great storyline, great characters, heck, even the animation was good by today's standards.

my greatest regret was that i became a late fan, now the toys can only be bought over the internet and at inflated prices. lesson? be open-minded, watch a few episodes, and then prepare your wallet for BW bidding frenzy. 8)

I don't know how anyone can call the original T-Rex version of Megatron ugly... Come to think of it, all the Megatron [save perhaps the Gator] were pretty impressive.

They may be fugly, and alot may have their animal arms and legs turn into their bot arms and legs(Ihate that), but they do exude a BEASTIAL savagry, and many are detailed in a quality that sadly has not been met or matched since many bots since.

A cube based item unfolding into a figure is one thing, but an aminal into a figure, in a realistic fashion is something else all together!

Still, you're welcome to your opinion, I for one would like to see more Maximals and Predicons join the AutoBots and Decepticons.

vehicons get no love

You are in for a treat my friend!

And to everyone else(mostly), I agree, Beast Wars is what realy relite the TF Spark (odd talking about this on Golden Disc Day). Realy if it wasn't for that series, TFs would just be a memory now along with Wheeled Warriors(who I wish would also come back), Centurions, M.A.S.K., and The Snorks.

To bad that Has/Tak didn't keep up the effort and just got lazy in QC, new ideas, and repaints after that line died. I for one Blame RID, the new bots where friggin awesome! But the repaints and rehashes where lackluster, and sadly that pretty much became the paving stones for the current norms.

Whaaa? So you don't think Armada/Energon Cybertron hold up to Beast Wars?

Just curious. I only have 1 Cybertron toy, so I am not asserting anything here. It's just that from what I've seen - Excellion, Prime, Vector Prime, Primus, Galvatron, Override GTS - I thought Unicron trilogy would be better than Beast Wars.

I have seen all of BW (and BM). I liked both (prefered BM). Both lines by and large have terrible toys IMO.

However I do think BW Fuzor Silverbolt is very nice.

The appeal that many have to Beast Wars (and Beast Machines) was the TV show. It is still even to this day regarded as the best Transformers tale ever told. It has an excellent story that really hasn't been matched by the other series.

I suggest you give the show a try and watch the entire series in order. I bet you'll change your mind. :)

I'll agree that some of the Beastformers were ugly, the mutants and even some Transmetal were fugly.

But they were purposely designed that way, they were mixtures of animal and robot, and they managed to get the mix just right on so many figures. Mutants in particular are meant to be ugly, its part of who they are.

The robot mode was not sacrificed for the alt mode like the movie line, the plastic quality is superb, and the painting has not been matched since (Beast Wars figures tend to have more different colours on them than your average A/E/C/Movie toy).

true. most, if not all of the toys of the BW line (save for the original releases) stayed true to the animation design. almost no compromise (given the early years it was produced) unlike the movie line, whose automorph severely compromised the robot modes.

plus, plastic quality is nothing short of ASTOUNDING. i have a friend who owned a fuzor silverbolt for almost 10 years, when he showed me his toy the other day i was surprised by how TIGHT the joints were (well, the knee joints actually, as these only moved back and forth and did not rest on ball joints).

but given the age and the amount of playtime he spent with it (it was really worn when he let me handled it), i must say that the quality is SUPERB. try playing with deluxe barricade at least every week for 10 years and let's see if it lasts that long intact.
