What are the best and worst gimmicks that transformers toys have had?

I have always wondered what people have thought are the best and worst gimmicks that transfomers have had over years. If you don't know what I'm talking about like the cyber key gimmick from transformers cybertron or the headmasters gimmick from headmasters. So go ahead and let us all know what you think I can't wait to hear your ideas for best and worst.

Gestalts take my number one spot and triple changers take second.

Worst? Cyberkeys were pretty lame, just silly plastic hunks. But "hyper power" in energon was by far the worst gimmick ever. It didn't even work.

auto morph and store/country Exclusive is the worst gimmicks. Headmasters was cool.

Best - Automorph & the actual transformation thing... in truth, thats a gimmic...
Worst - Pretenders & Cyberkeys.

Worst: Automorph is horrible, a good idea in theory but poorly executed, especially with the level of cheapness the movie line is.
Runner Up: Cyber Keys, a rehash of minicons, but without getting a 'bonus' transformer, and the Energon Superlink gimmick.

Best: Triple changers.
Runner Up: Headmasters Targetmasters and Minicons; who doesnt love getting an 'extra' transformer?

Worst is prolly Automorph or the method of needing something small and loseable to transform something big. Primus is the best example of this.

Best is the triple changers.

Best: Transforming. A close second is gestalts.

Worst: Actionmasters, bar none.

worst: cyber keys

best: automorph, I had some luck with it because all the figures i have, the automorph feels good and doesn't seem like its going to break soon
runner up: triple changers

Agreed. Also surprised it took this many posts to say Action Masters...Transformers that don't Transform (except for some of ths European ones).

CyberKeys were really lame. They're the reason why I stopped paying attention to Transformers: Energon + Cybertron as they took the mini-con gimmick and totally went backward on it.

I was going to say action masters as the worst gimmick. The reason I say this is because I had the honor I guess you would say of seeing the prowl action master since when has transformer every need a motorcycle to drive around on that is just stupid.

I was going to say brainmaster as one of the best gimmick even if they didn't explore it fully.

Runner up for best gimmick has to be triple changers because they were pretty unaquared for the time.

They had vehicles and partners that transformed. So yeah, worthy of the Transformers name. I'm surprised that obvious fact is always ignored.

Worst: Pretenders
Best: Call me what you like but I'm not really a fan of the gimmicks, I don't mind them (except Pretenders) but for me the best "gimmick" is the Classics Line Re-working of G1.

That's not a gimmick, it's just another toy line.

At least action masters worked, they really didn't transform. Hyper Power didn't do sh*t...

True but it's also a marketing gimmick as well and it's got me buying again. Other than that I'd have to go with Transforming as the best gimmick.

Cyberkeys are both the best and worst gimmick to me, and here's why. By themselves, the Cyberkeys are really dumb cause they don't do anything, and it's difficult sometimes(but possible) to activate the features without them. However, because the key is so thin and the space needed to insert the key is so small, there aren't any buttons or pegs or whatever addorning most figures, and the figure can look a little better overall.

Powerlinking could have been done better. Sure, it's fun to powerlink Autobots together, but most combinations don't look very good. Also, it limited some posebility because they had to incorperate powerlinking.

Still, my all time favorite gimmick(if you can call it that), is hiding weapons in alt. mode, or incorperating them. Really good idea that helps prevent part loss.

^ I have to agree. If you can call that a gimmick then I change my vote. Just one more reason why beast wars rocked...
