Not another Classics I'd like to see thread

I was reading one of the 'characters I want to see as classics' threads and it seems to be me that Ironhide (and Ratchet) is the g1 bot most in need of a classics update - important character in the fiction but awful toy.

So awful that despite being a fan of Ironhide, I can't bring myself to buy one (if I was given one I'd leave it in alt mode).

So the question is, what g1 toys have you liked the character(s) but find the toy too hideous to buy?

I'd also add Cyclonus, Runabout and Runamuck, and Springer (and all the other season 3 triple changers) to my list.

Never happens to me. If I love the character, I gotta love the toy.

I'd hate to tell you that I think you are wrong, but I think you are wrong.

Cyclonus, Springer, Octane, and Sandstorm are all quite good G1 Transformers... Yes, they may not be exactly like their animation models ( :P ), but they are cool figs...even if articulation is minimal to nil.

I mean Springer has a freakin' helicopter blade sword! And three modes! The helicopter is awesome.

Sandstorm is certainly underrated as a TF. He needs more love. Three really cool modes again.

Cyclonus has a really cool alt mode!!! And his robot mode is workable.

Spoiled rotten, young 'uns!!! With your stinkin' 30 points of articulation, and computer enhanced sculpted realistic bodies, and heads...

If they are bad for 20 year old TFs, whats Armada Sideswipe's excuse? Or Armada Thrust's? The problem is they now change the cartoon renderings to look much more like the toys!!! In g1 not so much. There was certainly a lot of artistic license taken in the cartoon models creations compared to the toys designs.

I could do without a Prime being repainted white..

Otherwise I'm happy to see any homages/G1-based figures, there are alot of them that deserve the Classics treatment.

OK maybe hideous might have been a bit harsh, maybe 'like the character but a bit cautious about buying the toy'? Actually my main gripe with Springer is the colours.

Don't get me wrong, I love my God Ginrai and Sixshot bricks!

I LOVED G1 Springer and Octane. I played with and transformed them ALL the time! Man, good times. :)
So I wouldn't lump Springer, Octane, or Cyclonus in with G1 Ironhide and Ratchet.

I have G1 Ironhide and Ratchet, but they are in SERIOUS played-with condition. But I didn't buy them, they were given to me. I wouldn't have bought them in the `80s, and I wouldn't buy them now.

So, yes, Ironhide and Ratchet need modern figures.

Now, I might get flamed for this, but I never liked the toy for G1 Megatron. Just ugly as heck. Galvatron was better, but still ugly.

G1 Sky Lynx, Ultra Magnus, Broadside, Gnaw, and, actually, the G1 Predacons, and, like you said, Runamuck and Runabout. Now, to be honest, I never cared enough about the *characters* of Sky Lynx, Broadside, Gnaw, G1 Predacons, or Runamuck & Runabout to actually care that their toys sucked, but even if I had cared about them as characters I still wouldn't have bought their toys.

Sky Lynx and Gnaw I just couldn't care less about; modern toys based on these characters would have to be freakin' amazing for me to buy.

However, even though I don't much care about Broadside, I do think its cool that he'll be getting a modern toy.

So, really, while most of the characters in the first 3 years of G1 would benefit from modern toys, there really aren't that many that I would never buy.
