Hooray!... Aw crap

Hopefully the title isn't too nonsensical (I'll change it later if I think of something better.)

So I've been trying to pick up some Alternators, and of course eBay is my friend. I see two auctions for Grimlock that end while I'd be at religious services this Sun. So I set my proxy bid on both, going from past experience Grimloack is pretty well liked so i figure my chances are slime at getting either, and just about impossible to get both.

SO I get home a bit earlier than I originally expected, and see that I won the earlier auction and actually got a pretty fair price. Hooray. Then i see that I'm still the highest bid in the other auction and there's scant time left. I figure someone will outbid me like always but of course noone does. Aw crap.

I mean I guess getting two Alternators at none insane prices is nice but totally redundant and neither were MISB. I'm not really gonna complain about it as it's totally my own doing.

This also kinda happened with respect to Classics Jetfire. I finally shell out to buy him online, only to have tons start showing up on store shelfs not long after when Hasbro starts clearing stock.

I've just been collecting again for a short while ad this has happend to me twice. I'm sure some of you more seasoned collectors have similar stories. I'd like to ear them.

Find an Alt Hound or the KO BT version at a decent price, swap the head with your spare Grimlock, apply some silver paint aps to the head and some red to the inside legs and make yourself an Alt Megatron. Go on, you know you want to. Not too sure who you'd be able to make with the leftovers off the top of my head though. With some reworking to the Grimlock head maybe another Dynobot?

Not to state the obvious but trying bidding on one at a time. Usually works for me. Go crazy and put a bunch on your watch list but stick with one. Win or lose that one, move on to the next.

If the Grimlock always sells well on eBay why not just stick it up again?

That's my typical MO but I didin't think I'd be home for the end of both of them, and considering their popularity, I never thought I'd actually get both. Though in the event I did I made sure the bids were well within reasonable limits for myself.

The Idea of modding one into a Megatron is interesting, though I'm hopping on using one toward getting me a Wheeljack somehow someway.

Megatron from a Hound head? Hmm...

I'm just not seeing that.

I could probably be made to work

I don't think I have have the technicall skills to do it right though (or a Hound, much less one I'd be willing to decapitate)

All you need to do to remove Alt heads is unscrew the screw in the back of their heads, it's incradibly simple (as long as the head dosnt get in the way of the alt mode or transformation).

Painting is another story, and the entire reason I have never kitbashed. I dont enjoy painting at all, dont have the patience for it.

I'll have to wait till I actually get both figures before I definitively decide what to do with the extra.

Remember though, the main purpose of this thread was to share experiences where you bought something only to find out it was rendered unnecessary shortly after.

I would offer to buy it off of you, But I do not need a second grimmy Alternator. I'm not that greedy and selfish. If you have a spare Mirage, Camshaft, Rollbar/Hound, or Jazz/Meister on the other hand... :-?

I think that you have a good problem to have.

I've been thinking, though I haven't yet received either Grimlock, of either customizing a Megatron (which would require a new head) or going all out and painting one into Soundwave.
