Earlier in the month we reported on the possibility of the return of Universe packaged figures to the toy shelves. Well known collector Benson Yee has confirmed this today with a small gallery that features several Cybertron figures in Universe styled packages. These figures are Cybertron Scattorshot, Backstop, Brakedown, Brushguard, Lugnutz and Undermine. You can check out the images here.

I should also add that since these are most likely Dollar Store releases, that these figures should retail for $5.00. So for those that missed/passed on these, you should be able to save $2.00 on each one.

Some odd choices of figures in that assortment. I thought Scattorshot was one of the most popular scout class figures in the Cybertron line?
I understand how Brushguard, Lugnutz and Backstop got to be re-released (though I love Backstop), they did clutter the shelves for large periods of time, even here in Australia.

Yeah, well, when you have an overstock of something, you've gotta do anything possible short of actually giving them away to get rid of them.

I can still find Backstop and Brushguard here. All the Wal-Marts and TRU's around here that did a Cybertron re-stock have them.

Dollar General/Family Dollar. I've actually been wanting Undermine and Backstop recently cause I've been putting together a team for Cybertron Beast Megatron and Optimus Primal. These would fit nicely.

Glad to see Universe releasing some figures in 2007. These and the Universe Seacons will be it's only figures this year, along with the classic 2 pack Optimus and Megatron.
I already have them all, but I might get a second Backstop so I can repaint it as Timelines Headstrong or a Brushguard to make into Trailbreaker.
Now we need bios for these characters in the G1 or Classic story setting. Maybe Backstop is the martial arts instructor who Elita One mentioned in the BotCon comic? Maybe Brakedown helped Rodimus with the big races on Cybertron he organized before coming to Earth with Optimus (mentioned in the Club magazine bio for Rodimus).
Also, will the keys still have code numbers on them?

booo..... how about reissuing figures that people can never get a hold of.. not crappy back stock... These are the kind of releases that warm the shelves of retailers and discourge them from picking up additional (read newer stock)..... oh well.

Umm...you do know that people who already own these figures are not those to whom they are targeted, right?

So when do they release a wave that includes Cybertron Leader Galvatron, Energon Eltra Magnus and Alternator Camshaft in discount stores?

it's good thing for us here in the philippines as we never got hold of the full cybertron line. so this deal's not crappy at all to us. we here are always getting the tail end of the TF distribution line, so this news is very pleasant for all of us.
though i'd like to see them release landmine, snarl and other cool deluxes in rockin' repaints.

Hmm, one good thing about repaints.

I hope there will be plenty in Australia.

Christ, did they really lose the rights to those names so quickly?

Brushguard is the easiest to come across here in Cybertron packaging, but I'll pass on the others.

Loose what rights? These guys have been in Dollar General since 2006.
