mp-04 custom trailer

Hi Everyone,

I come to you with a bit of puzzle on my hands, and I hope one of you can help me. The other day I was looking through ebay when an auction for the anniversary mp-04 optimus prime trailer caught my eye. It's not the exact mp-04 because it has roller and according to the seller, the trailer is 3-4 inches longer than the one available through takara.

Has anyone seen this? If so, is there a company name attached to this product? I would like to look them up for more information. See the picture below to get what I'm talking about. I honestly didn't know of any other companies (other than Justitoys) that was making a prime trailer.. and a superior version to the Takara one at that!

Thanks for any information :)

Personally I own the Justitoys trailer and it's not that great (except the cost). There was a thread about a month ago discussing the difference between Justitoys and MP-04 trailers, and someone mentioned there was another version available ( http://www.kooltoyz.ca/transformtrailer.html ), I don't know the brand name of it, if any, and too bad it was sold out earlier this year already. This trailer received quite a lot of good praises from other fellow members I've read thus far.

Good luck hunting for your prime trailer.

EDITED 3PM PST: Just found this from ebay for you to consider with http://cgi.ebay.com/Transformable-mp-01 ... dZViewItem .

Cheers!

I think it is designed and made by one chinese guy. He designed the trailer as G1, and found a factory to manufacture. It is not any brand production.

I own one. BUY IT. Buy it before it is unavailable and then you wish you had.
Best quality KO I own, calling it a KO doesn't even do it justice. The quality is that good.

I bought mine back in February from Kool Toyz in a set that came with 4 extra tires, 2 sticker sheets(1 glossy, 1 matte), and long smoke stacks for prime.

I broke down and just ordered one of these. Sure the official MP-04 one looks much more detailed. But find that at a decent price is very hard to come by nowadays with MP-04 going $200-300. Especially when I have MP-01 already. But its been bugging me that there was never a transforming trailer release from either Takara or Knock-Offs. So when I saw this recently, its the best available option, while have more playability & serious homage to the G1 Prime that MP-04 lacks. So its a decent trade off. The too colorful inner stickers don't match the aesthetics too well though, now that its not a G1 toy. I'll probably leave it plain, and add some cool detailed plastic panels on it if I happen to find some that matches.

Would be funny to use my WST Prime as a mini me sitting in the control panel.

Haha. Pretty much what happened to me last night. Saw the post, researched a bit, found reviews and tons of pics, then back to evil bay and click the button. :P Hope it turns out as good as people say. while a bit on the plain side, guess I can always park a couple BT on it in 'base' mode. Still not digging the colorful inner stickers.

Here you go. The fruitful result of my research last night.

Wow that trailer looks great! But $140 after shipping/insurance for it? It's nice, but about $70 too much for my tastes. I bet the Chinese sweatshop churns these out for maybe $10 a piece!

Yeah, its overpriced for sure, but probably not to a point that it cost $10. :P Heard supposedly, the guy that did this project shelled out a lot of money to get this made & manufactured, and had some old 'in progress' thread in other TF forum. With the guts to make a big investment in making something for fans (and to make a profit as well of course), and the very positive feedbacks this trailer received, I kind of respect that. I am just glad that it used to be pricier than what it is now.

One of the benefits of getting MP02 Ultra Magnus... I feel no desire to purchase the Prime trailer, and know that any Fan made/KO Magnus Trailer will cost me far more than it's worth.

I own this trailer. It is awesome! I did not regret buying it at all. In fact, I thought they were all sold out. Get it while you can! Since it is not Takara, I doubt it will ever fetch high collector's prices, but it is a worthy purchase for any MP collector. Best quality mass produced custom (transcends KO status) MP transformer made.

I have a gallery of pics here:

All who bought one of these today, believe me you will never regret it after you get this bad-boy in your hands. Even the packaging is great.
Take care in applying the stickers, they are very BIG!

Just got mine tonight. It's much bigger than the Justitoys one and looks more in scale with my MP-01. Should look awesome once I decal it. My Justitoys trailer (still MISB) will be sold on E-Bay this weekend. Thanks for the recommendations!! ;)^

The stickers and sticker designs don't look so "superior" Personally, i prefer a painted design.

So now there's an official MP trailer, Justitoys-trailer.. some few "hand" made customs.... and now this?

Hm... Since Prime is a bot most of the time I told myself
he doesn't need a trailer... buuut... now I suppose I
too hafta take a looksee!

Now the ebay prices will go high if we all bid against
eachoddda! I hate you guys! =)

We should try to commission a China factory to do a large quantity of cheap, good quality MP Trailer.

Minus the Autobot symbol to avoid any legal issues.

I was able to win a Ebay auction from a guy that was selling the trailer and a 20th Anniversary Prime together for about $120 including shipping. I don't really need the Prime since I already have one but a good deal never the less.

I got mine last night. Overall, a solid piece, but not without flaws of course.

The build quality is very good in terms of parts fitment & sturdiness, which is a surprise for non-licensed stuff. No floppy joints, plastic are thick enough, and accessories fit tight and sturdy on pegs. The trailer shell may get tricky opening/closing at first. But once you got it, it gets easier after a few tries, especially after the tabs break in. It even got exact matching wheels with rubber of MP Prime. Very nice.

In terms of finish, the grey plastic that forms the shell of the trailer is excellent. Very smooth and shiny just like a Hasbro or Takara piece. Though on the blue and black plastic pieces, they don't have the same finish. Much rougher with blemishes here and there that reminds you this is a 'Knock-Off' still. Some of my blue parts has a couple stress marks too, but that is just mine. Though the blue plastic color does match MP Prime's blue very good. Almost spot on, minus the metallic flakes on MP Prime's blue. Gimmicks work very well. Missiles shoots well and the spring for ejecting the Roller is pretty powerful. Its loud . :D

The stickers has a glossy sheen on top, not bad. Though the blue stripes for the side often has small specs in the blue that is not meant to be printed there. So its not going to be all clean and perfect. But stickers seem to stick very well. For those that don't care for the retro look, not having any inner stickers actualy don't look as plain as you would expect in person, due to its scale. Looks nice still.

Being a 'Knock-Off' non-licensed product, its quality is pretty high. Though you can still see a big difference versus licensed product. It has its good (functionality, fitment and size) and its bad (plastic finish, flaws on print, less contemporary look, way over priced). So its overall a satisfied purchase and makes Prime a whole lot bigger and cooler, with the fuctionality of the G1 trailer that a lot people missed on the MP-04 trailer. But it definitely doesn't justify the price if you just look at the quality alone, especially if you are a budget oriented collector. Though for me, I am just glad to have a trailer for Prime at last.

I'll give it a 7/10. A solid alternative if you like the trailer G1 style better, or missed the boat on getting MP-04 cheap when it first released.

The only flaws on mine are the stickers are too glossy and for some strange reason, I can not keep Roller from launching. The launcher keeps going off everytime I lock it back. I need to see if I can track down a matte finish set of stickers. For a non licensed toy, it's pretty good quality.

The Roller launcher on mine is ok. Its slightly on the sensitive side, but not that it doesn't lock. I just have it in truck mode displayed at work, and it just look darn cool. :) So huge.

I just got one of these a couple weeks ago, and words can't express how happy I am with it.

I was so giddy when I brought my G1 prime out and had both trailers out and was doing the sticker applications. All the memories of getting Prime for Christmas when I was 10 years old flooded in.

It is a perfect compliment to the MP Prime, especially for a G1 fan. Sure it was pricey, but it was still a lot cheaper than the $200 I would have had to spend for MP04 prime, and then I'd be stuck with yet another Optimus (I was able to get several 20th primes on closeout at Walmart for reeeeeeaaaaaallllly cheap after last christmas, they are slated for repaints).

My launcher for Roller is also a bit sensitive. But I really prefer this to the MP04 prime trailer because it HAS roller.

My only complaint is that it is such a large item I don't have enough room on the MP/Alt shelf to display it properly. Not a bad problem. :-)
