Hap-hazard, all over the shop, whatever takes my fancy/is available/I can afford. This is my collecting style.

I dont really care what line its from as long as the robot mode looks good to me and the alt mode is cool. I'm picky about what the faces looke like. But I think Ive bought a little of everything. Some more than others.

I guess being in southern California has spoiled me a bit. I forget that alot of you are not in the US and are limited to what you can find.

QFT, sadly. distro sucks especially to asian countries (which is ironic, considering that we are nearer to japan...if only hasbro/takara had some sort of a combo distro deal, wouldn't that be cool?

)
my style of collecting is usually autobot/maximal oriented, and the robot mode is especially important (must be stable, poseable, etc). this is why i usually rely on forums/websites like BWTF in figuring out if a particular TF is worth buying or not.
but if it's on sale, why not?

I was given a TRU exclusive Commemorative Soundwave for my birthday and that began my collecting TFs again. I originally just wanted to get the majority of the G1 characters so I got what I could find from the Classics line. Then the movie came out and I decided I wanted to the collect only the characters that actually appeared in the movie (though I did stray from this and picked up Arcee). I'm trying to keep myself limited as I already have a fairly large comic book collection and have been collecting horror movie masks and props for years, so space is sort of limited. Also, I know if I didn't have 'rules' I'd be buying every single TF I could get my hands on and I can't really afford that. So the only other ones I plan on picking up are the rest of the first Classics line I still don't have, then I'll get what I need from the new Classics line when that's released in addition to finishing up the movie figures. So I've still got plenty left to get.

I mainly collect Transformers by line. If I'm not impressed by the overall line, I generally stay away from it. Other than TFs, I usually become obsessed with collecting one toy line at a time. My current obsession is Minimates.

i really only spend money on G1 toys (apart from the movie line - which i intend to complete - at least those who got screen time) but i get a bit completist if i can afford it
eg - i have all the cybertron legends in their packets, purely because i can afford it. same with the 3" titaniums. they may be a little lame, but having every single one looks pretty good

I'm a pack rat.
I collect many things, such as Music, DVD's, and any random action figure that get's my fancy.
However, my primary focus(at the moment) is Transformers.
Mainly G1, with KO's and a few from other lines.
I just finished getting all the minibots, with the exception of any Estrala from Brazil, Mexican Variants, and/or Microman/Microchange or Diaclone.
But I do have a yellow Bumblejumper.

I'm slowing down for a bit. I have Ratchet and Ironhide on Pre-order, but I don't see anything that'll get anytime soon.
I stop buying anything for myself after October, since the holidays will be here soon after that.

I'm primarily a Bumblebee collector, so I buy pretty much everything related to him. Aside from that, here are some policies I generally try to stick to:
Max of one figure per character, per line (unless very different, eg. Protoforms)
Best version of character in line (eg. I probably won't buy Movie Voyager Prime because I prefer the Leader version)
Try and buy mostly stuff that's on sale or clearance (keeps me from spending too much).
Stick to characters I recognise.
Buy a few things my niece and nephew can play with (which is why I plan to buy another Cyber Slammer to go with my Cyber Slammer Bumblebee).
Rules are made to be broken, of course, but I can't see myself straying very far from these guidelines in the near future.
