Just got Deluxe '08 BB, and I like it. But I've begun to notice a whole selection of paint related defects.

First I noticed random black paint specks on the left hand side of the back of the car mode.
The Im SURE I saw some yellow paint flake of something when I transformed him for the first time (though I havnt workedo ut where from).
Then I noticedsome yellow overspray in the windscreen.
And finally, the most obvious (yet somehow last thing I noticed), the left hand side of his front grill ISNT EVEN PAINTED! The light is, not the grill.

I mean really Hasbro, I'd expect better paint jobs than this from knockoff companies.

Also the yellow paint isnt exactly a brilliant match for the plastic is it?

There's a third option.
Go back to the store and demand a refund or repaint. Especilly since one ofthe little bits on yellow plastic on his shoulders has disapeared without a trace as well.

Infact I still need ot get my money back for the old Bumbles too, cuase mine suffered the little snapping peg issue too. Sadly I lost the recipt for that one.

People complain about the same damn stuff with every toyline. The complaints are just in greater volume thanks to the movie popularity.

I've heard the same complaints at least as far back as Energon, and similar issues (chrome flaking) even further back to Beast Wars. This is not new, this is not Hasbro suddenly deciding to suck, it's the price you pay for collecting mass-release toys intended mostly for children.

But why do they decide to mold a part in clear plastic just to cover it completely with paint?

I'd be happy just to FIND an 08 BB. Personally, I wouldn't care so much about the paint if I just had the stupid figure.

Molding the roof of a car in a solid color and having a separate piece of the mold for the clear windshield and windows is probably more cost-prohibitive, hampers the design of the figure, or considered a choking hazard if it breaks. It may very well be all of the above. And if Hasbro keeps the mold in solid plastic and paints the windows, people complain about that, so it's a lose-lose situation as far as pleasing fans go. Which is not their main intention as Hasbro employees like to remind us at Botcon so much.

Don't quote collection numbers as if I haven't been around the block much, heh. I've owned at least as many myself (mine just tend to change hands every so often). One individual experience is nothing. These are toys manufactured in the hundreds of thousands. Aside from certain universal problems (gold plastic, TM chrome, fading, and even these don't always happen), not all figures will be perfect or imperfect.

I was rather disappointed in my 08 BB paintjob. In addition, one of his yellow shoulder pieces keeps falling off!

Wouldn't be surprised AT ALL. Too me like 10 Leader Primes to spot one with non-defect flames at TRU back in June (good old days when Movie toys are abundant). Pretty much all the TF Movie toys I bought so far have some paint defects...yeah, even that Prime I picked.

Welcome to Hasbro's QC. ;;)

The paint is what stops 08Bumblebee being one of the best figures of all time. He is still the pick of the movies figures in my mind, but has ever such a long way to go to reach the standard set by half the Cybertron and Beast Wars lines.

In their effort to make as much money per figure, Hasbro really shot themselves in the foot with the movie line figures.

I haven't had any problems so far. I guess I'm just lucky. Of course, I'm only collecting movie characters, so I don't know about other figs yet, and I just haven't even found Leader Megatron yet because store owners are still discouraged over the failure of the Unicron trilogy and don't stock TFS anymore if they can help it.
Stupid kiddy TF shows :BLACKEYE:

The yellow paint on my Bumblebee's door are just a touch too dark and the paint stops just short of front edge of the doors.

Now my Takara 74 Bumblebee is made the exact same way and the paint apps on it are perfect. I wonder if the MA-10 Bumblebee has better paint? :-?

I simply can't believe that in this day and age they can't find a paint to match a plastic colour or vice versa. It makes one of the best car modes ever somewhat of a disappointment to display, especially when the likes of barricade and swindle are perfect in car mode.
