Okay, we've seen complaining on all fronts about every Ultra Magnus (minus RID and Titanium) has been a repaint of Prime from each series.

My question though is this:

What if Ultra Magnus were to be released first in a series, and then repainted into Powermaster Prime?

Would you buy them?

Both of them combined with their trailers, and if they did this for one series, I would gladly buy both just to finally get a proper Ultra Magnus. Plus, I think repainted as Prime, it would look pretty cool too.

It's an interesting concept, not one that will ever happen.

Ultra Magnus is such a secondary character... In fact, I see no reason why Magnus should even be a repaint of Prime - that's too good for him.

So as much as I think a Prime repaint of a Magnus mold would be different, it just wouldn't work since Prime always deserves his own mold. He takes a backseat to no other TF, certainly not to Ultra Magnus.

That'd certainly be interesting. Honestly I like the white color of Magnus more than Prime. As long as he's painted well.

Because Ultra Magnus and Optimus Prime, while they may share the same cab, have different trailers.

Now someone fetch me a large stick so that I can beat this acceptance of these two being repaints of each other out of FB and beat some acceptance that they need their own unique identities into him.

You see, it made me remember just how spectacularly awesome RiD Magnus is. It also made me remember that since then, thanks to all the stupid ass kids that buy every single crappy energon, armada, and cybertron figure made, Hasbro considers Magnus to be nothing more than a repaint.

Well everyone would prefer that Magnus have some sort of armor. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the fans fault. Blame DW if you have to blame someone. Like I said above I enjoy the Magnus repaints more than the Prime colors more often then not.

I do blame DW.

One panel it seems is all it took to unleash these white Prime repaints.

Now I can handle the idea that Magnus is just a white Prime cab. Never had a problem with that. But what I don't like is they now seem to be treating Magnus as a second rate repaint in a number of lines. To me, and i've said it before and i'll say it again, i'm probably bias as a Ultra Magnus fan, it's an insult to the character.

It happend many moons ago already with the little PVC guys. They painted Magnus in his red and blue Powered Convoy colors. Now that I really think about it, I think they called him Ironhide on the packaging

What's ironic, is that in the latest lines Hasbro has had an obsession with giving Prime a "supermode", yet it's always the Primes without a supermode that get repainted into Magnus.

I'm not personally bothered so much by it, especially in cases where Prime also gets screwed out of his trailer. I mean, Ultra Magnus has since G1 been a repaint of Prime with a different trailer. In the original Diaclone series the mould was just a Convoy upgrade anyway (Powered Convoy).

I think you guys missed my point. Repaints are innevitable. Ever since G1, Magnus has been getting sloppy seconds (again, minus RID).

Wouldn't it be nice if they did Ultra Magnus FIRST and gave Prime sloppy seconds for a change?

I'm not saying that Magnus has to be released first. Release the new Magnus mold in Powermaster Prime colors first, then release Magnus and the fans will love it.

Sure, PM Prime might not look that great, but it will still be worth it to get a proper Ultra Magnus.

It is kind of amazing the amount of love ultra magnus gets. Being that the only two series he has appeared in as a main character is g1 and rid.

I've always preferred Magnus over Prime. I hated the fact that Magnus has been downgraded from a full blown character to a repaint. It was cool in the comics when Magus popped out of his armor, but I think Takara and Hasbro has been lazy lately, not giving Magnus his armor back.

Come to think of it, the PM Prime repainted as Magnus doesn't sound that bad.......surprised e-Hobby or someone hasn't done that already.

Sorry to necro thread this, but given recent toys, this 10 year old thread now seems damn near prophecy, no?

Yeah, too bad Magnus was one of the worst made figures around and Hasbro's redeco barely looks like how PM Prime should and the takara version is out of my price range.

I own that figure, and barring some hollowness, he's a rather good figure overall.



Good transformation, very nice Robot Mode, good vehicle mode. There's really very little wrong with Magnus.
