Nostalgia & Enjoyment. I grew up from when Transformers began starting with G1 thru G2. I collect today because TF's give me that nostalgic connection to my childhood. I also collect because the impressive engineering that goes into the figures, the enchanting mythos of the TF universe and the simple fact that TFs are cool. Not to mention that my 4 year old sons just love TFs and have their own small Cybertron collection.

For fun of course. Not so much because of the influence of the cartoon since I like a lot of other old school anime shows more than TF. But from a toy standpoint, some TFs are pretty intriguing, especially the higher end toy lines (MP, BT).

Well for me the first part is nostalgia, then it's the fun factor, I love transforming my transformers, the fact that one minute you have a yellow car then a few minutes later it's Autobot warrior Hot Shot. it's fantastic, I can't even think of a cooler toy line.

I watched the G1 TFs on the brand new "skychannels"...
My window to a larger pre-internet world!
A world when TV was still good!
This.. is ...Sky.... Europe's number one!"
As the bots got worn and stickers begun to look bad I
eventually packed them away 2000!
Then 2 years back I noticed the big anniversiry Prime...
and all new Alternators..
Then found reprolables..and noticed that ebay is full of
old bots and reissues...Thought the TFs were ruined by
years and years of simple toyish weirdness and odd beasts!
Finally I could unruin my childhood, fix and collect all G1s! =)

I collect TFs because I think they are still cool as hell. I'm a collector by nature but since I was a kid I've stuck with two things: Comic Books and Transformers. I doubt I'll ever stop.

They just stand out... and are very nicely created.

As stupid as this sounds, I think they are kind of cute.

I'm a girl so I can say that. Also, they are just really cool. I never had them as a kid so I'm enjoying them now. Plus it is fun seeing what I can find. I do a lot of toy hunting now. Today I even got an Alternator. It's my second one.

I'm mostly a G1 collector so for me it's to get back to my childhood. Also both of my nephews destroyed my whole collection when I was a kid

. So now that I'm 31 I try to get everything back that I lost.

Initally cuase I had virtully none as a kid. Then with the advent of Cybertron, I got really into modern lines too. Now it is as much because a lot of mordern tfs are increadibly cool and well designed as it an atempt to recapture a childhood I never really had.

Nostaliga, but the main reason I got back into it was to counter depression

I honestly don't see how you CAN'T find Transformers absolutely awesome. It's fun hunting for the toys, and I display most of them in robot form because they look so darn cool.

I followed a cartoon when I was just knee high and just plain enjoyed. I never had any Transformers growing up though. All through those years, I probably had 5 Transformers and never at the same time. I had 2 minibots and the rest were knockoffs.
Now that I'm older and have some disposable income, I just want to have the things I never enjoyed as a kid, thats how my collection started.

I had micronauts as a kid and TF's reminded me of those very cool toys, little did i know at the time that megatron and various other TF's were 'micronauts', or more technically they were later toys in the 'microman' line in japan of which micronauts were a licenced subset in the west, so nostalgia of sorts but as i was a teenager when TF gen 1 first came out i saw them for what they were, just awesome little pieces of art!

1. Because they look so cool and they have at least 2 modes!
2. Oddly they sort of help me relieve some stress but not on my wallet.

Stress relieving?
I guess, but there is a single moment, maybe just a microsecond of euphoria that you get when you manage to hunt down a particulary elusive figure.
Then you'll always yearn to re-enact that feeling and thats how a collection grows

Escapism, mostly. I would have never been in a rush to reach adulthood if I knew that it was going to be this way, so collecting TFs kind of helps me get away from everyday stresses.
Of course, hunting for a Concept BB has become a headache all its own.

Yeah, that's what I love about TFs: they not only appeal to the collectors/nerds, but they appeal to everyone else too.
I mean, I think TFs are cool because I'm a sucker for robots, but who isn't? I'm a relatively new collector, so when my best friend came over this past weekend and saw all my toys, he initially had an incredulous, "OMG IM FRIENDS WITH A HUGE GEEK!" face, but then he started asking me about all of them and fiddling with them, and became a fan as well.
