Simple question: Soundblaster/Soundwave

I'm a big fan of the US releases and the US cartoon, but not the Japanese lines or series. Can someone explain the difference between Soundblaster and Soundwave? Is Soundwave just the US version, and Soundblaster came first? Or is it a Magnus/Prime scenario where they're two different characters?
Thanks guys and gals,
U-

Soundblaster is Soundwave after he was rebuilt. In the Headmaster cartoon (Japan only I belive) Blaster and Soundwave fought and both "died". they were both rebuilt as Soundblaster and Twincast.

Sounblaster is basically a black soundwave and Twincast was a blue Blaster.

ok, soundwave was in both series but soundblaster was in 2010 which was only released in japan. he's a decepticon rebuild of scavaged parts from blaster and soundwave after they killed each other.

more of a megatron/galvatron situation than a magnus/prime.

Soundblaster is the upgraded form of soundwave after his fatal battle with blaster in the japanese headmaster series.

As well as he new red and black colouration the toy can hold two tapes where soundwave can hold one

It still amuses me that the AUtobot practically took on the old Decepticons Livery.

Then again he would've looked rather stupid in Green... :P

Now how did they make the toys hold two tapes instead of one? And in reality, well, cartoon reality, they could hold at least 4 at a time, couldn't they? I guess beyond the toy being different, I don't see how this is such a big upgrade

The doors on both toys were made bigger so they bulge out the front, rather than sit flush with the front of the figures.

It sounds like it would be rather ugly and silly looking, in comparison to the original, but somewhat surprisingly it really isn't. Have a look at Ryan's Galleries of the figures to see what I mean:
Original G1 Soundwave, compared to TRU Classics Soundwave (who is actually a re-issue of the Soundblaster Mold).

In the soundwave vs blaster battle how nasty was the battle. Was like prime vs megatron or was it worse.

20+ damned years of fandboy-hood and there's still stuff to learn.
God I love this hobby.
You know I'd always seen "Soundblaster" and "Doublecast" and I was always saying to myself 'meh, Soundwave and Blaster's colors are cooler anyways, danged redundant overseas releases. USA! USA!' ...well, probably something far less dramatic than that, but you know what I mean.
