The Official Disgruntled Brits': G1.5 appreciation thread

G1.5 the unofficial name for that grey area between G1 and G2 in which those of us in Europe saw a lot of exclusive figures and unusual stuff.
We had reissues of some 1984 figures and the Scramble city gestalts and a non combiningn set of Constructicons.
We had some recoloured Japanese exclusive gestalts, which had parts removed so they couldn't combine!
We had some exclusive figures neither the US or Japan received.
There were some exclusive action masters and even four action masters which could transform.
New decepticon and autobot logos were designed and the popularity of these figures eventually led a rebirth of transformers in the US and elsewhere as G2. Some of the G1.5 figures were rereleased as G2, others remain the only European exclusives we've ever had.

I think it's time to pay tribute to this obscure part of TF history and enjoy the oddities that it brought to us!

First reply goes to me, purely for old times sake mind you!

(EDIT-Dammit, beaten by a whole 60 seconds!)

Some info can be found here;

http://www.geocities.com/futuristgroup/vjap1.html

Scroll about halfway down to find the info.

I've actually got a carded fig form G1.5 somewhere, i'll try to dig it out and find out which one it is.

G1.5 makes me laugh. Even the advert sheets with all the currently available toys couldnt decide which faction symbol to use, the origanl G1 symbols, or the later on G2 symbols.

Some good and interesting toys though.

I know. Canada, Australia and New Zealand are cool enough to be counted with us though! :P

I need to find engines/launchers for my Turbomaster cars, parts for Thunderclah's trailer, the helicopter, Predator missiles and all of the smaller Predator jets. Some great figures these, non of the later remoulds that did find their way to the US market in Machine Wars and Universe ever really did them justice, and even then the Euro/Oz/Jap releases remain the only versions of the smaller cars and jets.

edit- Oops, forgot Canada and I tend to count New Zealand as 'Down Under' (gets ready for abuse from offended Kiwis).

It's okay, we let them believe they're their own country, but the rest of the world knows they're just another state of Australia. 8)

2 states of Australia, North and South Island.

The only problem with G1.5 is that since they were released only in the smaller markets (and because the figures are so damn good, no-one wants to sell them), it's alot harder to find decent versions of the figures.

I've been after Thunderclash for nearly 15 years now, and have always missed out on getting good ones still in working order.

More love needs to be given to the colour schemes of G1.5, Stalker is a work of beauty, and the hot pink used on the Turbomasters needs a serious re-entry into modern day figures!

Hasbro should remake the Turbomasters for Universe/Classics.
Despite their obscurity, I'm sure those of us who knew the likes of Scorch and Boss in our younger days could convert the unwashed masses.

They'd have to come without such strong firing missiles, and lets face it, thats half the fun of the Turbomaster/Predator Line.

I know that if the lines were re-released Id go and buy at least 3 of every figure, but in this day and age, they sure would be clunky and un-articulated in comparison to newer figures (Looking at you Skyquake...)

I see him pop up on E-Bay now and then, often goes for good prices in great condition. I just choose to not tell you.

I have no appreciation for these figures at all, I own non of them and have no intention in doing so, they don't interest me in the slightest. However I wish to post in this thread to show my appreciation of Britan's superiority over all. Rule, Britannia! God Save the Queen! Any one for Tennis?

Yours AK

Damn you Burn, Damn you! :P

Some of the Predator Jets have been appearing more often again, usually with no stickers, and almost always with no missiles, or guns but we all know how fragile Predator Guns are.

That'll be the name Hotrider was called in Americaland.
Just wait until you hear what they called Zap.....

BTW Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas if an ODB thread didn't have some grumpy moaning and/or derailment.

Sorry now I'm completly confused, I though most of this line was Euro-exclusive or did some bits seep out under a different banner?

I take it the toy I own was released in the US, in actual G2 packaging? I'll try to post a pic of the one I have later on.

Well some of the G1.5 stuff was released as G2 in the US. Axelerators and Skyscorchers were released in the UK in the G1.5 style packaging which was techniaclly G1 and then rereleased a bit later in new G2 packaging. In the US they got them as G2 and with a few new names.
Likewise the UK's G2 Aquaspeeders were different to the US's release where they were called colour changers (with new colour schemes and stickers) and 2 of the autobot moulds were released as decepticons. The US never got any of the Stormtroopers (the UK's decepticon team of 4 water-squirty, colour-changey cars).
This is where part of the G1/G2 grey area comes from, leading to the wonderful unofficial group we are discussing! 8)

I'm very fond of obscure Transformers. This thread is delightfully ripper.
