Real Gear Robots

Obviously there's a lot of mixed feelings over the movie TFs, but what's the consensus over the Real Gear lineup? The two Wal-Marts nearest me are clean out of everything except these things, with LOTS of Power Up VT6s. In desperation I got a Longview, and he isn't bad, but pretty simplistic.

There are a few of them that are pretty neat, the MP3 player Laserbeak and console controller Beastbox would be cool to own. But I don't know, I think their only true tie-in to the movie would be to consider them spawns of the All Spark or something.
Typically they don't have the same look as the true movie characters and almost appear to be shelved ideas from previous series finally seeing the light of day. Much like repainting Cybertron/Energon figures and throwing them into the lot. Almost as if some Hasbro suit was demanding filler troops for the factions and this is what they got.
Still they're cool enough in appearance, they offer decent articulation, and they're fairly cheap especially now in the two-packs. They just don't fit into the movie be it by scale or general look. Unless, of course, you get in to the forbidden mass shifting issue.

If they weren't tied in with the movie, I'd probably buy a few. Pretty decent stuff for the most part.

I got all of them and they are not all that bad! They are uniquely differnt. Have you seen the T.E.C.H. toy line? They are things like a Video Recorder, Flashlight, a PDA to name a few! They transform into weapons that shoot missles! They have lights and sounds. I thought these were pretty cool!

WHy do you let the movie taint toys that have nothing to do with it? Kinda a lame reason to skip these, IMO

Such hatred for the movie! I think we should be at least a little thankful for the movie!! It gave us something to collect in the meantime anyways, take it or leave it I guess..

theyre pretty neat imo.... as for longview however, he has a really good sculpt in both modes but his paint application on the face and head is terrible

i think they're neat in their own way, but when you can get a deluxe for just 3 bucks more, id rather pass.

if i were to buy these, i'd go for the camera robot. good robot design, good camera mode. althought hey should have painted the whole camera silver, so it'd look like a real digicam.

I too wish they were not tied with the movie. I own all of them and think they are are really cool, but I do think the movie taints them.

i really don't understand how the movie "taints" these toys. if you take them out of the packaging, would you know that these are tied with the movie? the robot designs are very very different.

I just don't want to feed any money into the whole movie thing. I don't want to reward them for something I disagree with so deeply. Even if it is only cents.

Buying the Real Gear stuff shows Hasbro that there's a demand for stuff that doesn't follow the Movie aesthetic. So by not buying them, you're having the exact opposite of the effect you want.

I do not believe that they are thinking that far.

Glad I am not the only one who thinks that these figures are far better than the movie line.
As for good figures from the line; well they are all good in one way or another, there is not a single Real Gear figure that I regret buying. I only regret not getting multiples of some.
Speed Dial is a personal favourite of mine, but High Score, and Meantime are considered by many to be the highlights of the line. You cannot disagree with them, Meantime is one seriously great figure.

As the resident Meantime whore, if anything, you have to buy Meantime. People complain about how the Deluxe figures aren't playable and just poseable statues, but Meantime is all of that and more.
Plus it probably has the best light piping of the whole movie line.
