I don't really think this mould was 'modeled after' Ironhide as it is very true to G1 Skids however it would look good as Ironhide. Its a bit of a challenge seeing as you are going to have to paint the entire toy red, so good luck!

He reminds me of ironhide as well, but is still a bit puny for him.

I saw pics of somebody who painted his to resemble a G1 IH ... needless to say, it looked freaking awesome!

I have 3 skids myself, so I should probably try it myself.

The paint job on the BTA Broadblast especially reminds me of ironhide, with the red accent. Just that the car is silver instead. I do think the mode is meant to look like him to an extend. It looks pretty obvious to me.

Goodluck with the repainting.

Turning all that Dark blue red is bound to be fun for many hours to come!

It's meant to look like Blaster or Broadcast as he is known in japan, any resemblance to Ironhide is purely coincidental. Saying that Broadblast would clearly make a better candidate for repaainting as Ironhide. It would be far easier to paint the silver on his head red, the yellow on his shoulders black and respray all the silver red than completely repaint Skids.

Edit: I was planning on selling BTA Broadblast but now I'm concidering turning him into Ironhide. I need to buy a new can of red spray paint for my custom Red Alert I've had in pieces for over a year now. This might be the motivational kick up the ass I needed, thanks for giving me the idea guys!

Not bad at all really, I'm turning dark blue to yellow and it's only taking three to four coats.

The real challenge of the mold is painting the doors, you can't pull them free of the rocker panels.

Alternator Skids in itself is already a great toy. One of the best Alternator, for my taste.

I've seen some Ironhide repaint of him. Looks good. But i'd like to see a more familiar Ironhide face remold. If that's possible.

A good primer job and a few coats of paint should do the job.

Personally, I prefer Alt Prime as a custom into Ironhide. Repainted Skids head and an orange stripe down the side will do for minimal conversion, and if you paint the blue parts dark grey or silver, you have yourself a solid custom. Personally, I like adjusting the shoulders and switching the hands so that the back becomes the front and the windshield becomes his chest, like in G1.

The Skids mold also makes a fine Ironhide. I just think of Ironhide as bulkier and tougher than a Scion, so I turn Skids into Ratchet. Yes, they were originally moldmates, but I just see it working better for one character than the other. Either way, use Tamiya.

Huh? I'm not picturing this at all.

In painting the Scion mold yellow, I avoided using a primer coat. Again, with the door and rocker panels being attached as they are, I didn't want any visible primer resulting from awkward overlap. Just make your coats thin and even and things'll turn out fine.

I don't think the alt mode is really Ironide, but the robot head is dead on. Looks just like him to me. But of course that's just me. I've seen Alternator Skids as Ironhide before, & it looked really good.

Currently Skids is one of my faves!! He looks really good in robot mode IMO... Ive started the repaint.. one primer coat and 3 airbrush gloss red coats down and his alt mode is red!! Whoot!!

I've used the Skids mold to make an Ironhide and a Ratchet. Here are a couple of pics....

As for the mold - it's a great figure, one of my favorite Alts. I encourage anyone who has been on the fence to pic it up if they have a chance.

Heck yeah. It IS one of the best in the line, and my second favorite mold. Its very poseable with good range articulation, while being very balanced on the look. No big chunky feet or oversized body parts. And nothing wrong with being a Scion either.

Thanks! I'm going to take some more pics and post them in the kitbashing forum. I've actually done a bit more with Ironhide since that pic was taken (added reprolabels) to breakup the monotony of all that red.

Now that I'm completely OT, I'll shut up....

I have mix feelings with Orange Hound. His shoulder sucks big time (really limited movement) and the arms don't look so hot in person, since it partly hollow. The legs look nice, but the hips are loose. The orange plastic looks rough, but thats more because I am used to BT and less Alt. So to me, he is a mix bag.

Rollbar isn't bad, he's as solid as the other jeeps. The shoulders can be improved upon rather easily, just cut away at the top of the shoulder and open it up some. You can get them to extend straight or in line with the shoulder mounts without messing up the ball/socket mount. I thought I had a picture of the moded shoulders, but I'm using them in the custom pictured in my sig.

Is alt skids the scion van? If so the G1 ironhide repaint has been done a million times on him already, but still go for it

Skids is indeed one of the best Alternator molds, but I strongly prefer his Binaltech version, since the paint job is spot-on to G1 once you add the stickers.

Those repaints do look great, by the way, looking forward to seeing how they all turn out.
