I don't know if this is true or not but I watching g4's coverage of the tgs today and across the bottom of the screen they had text bar scrolling with news from the show, and they announced that microsoft got the rights to make a mmorpg based on the classics line of transformers. I'm not not sure if this is only in japan or if it will also be here in north america as I said it only flashed across the screen for a few seconds. I wasn't sure if should put this in video game news or the toy news because if this pans out it may mean that we will see alot of new toys for the classics 2.0/universe line to complement this game.

That sounds odd...how can you make an MMORPG out of the "Classics" line? Hmm...if it's true though then neat. Then again I don't really play MMOs.

Could be a flop or a godsend if it ends up being done. G4, IGN and Gamespot so far have not picked it up in any news threads that I can find...

Will be interesting to see what happens from here.

So basically it's like the South Park episode where they were playing that game all the time to get to a level where they could beat the other couch potato?

ActuallY I rather like city of heroes, where the pooint isn't to beat the game, but to make superheroes, gain levells and fly and do all the stuff that you've always wanted to do.. all while with your own charcter, and billions of costume options and body styles all from the very beginning of the game!! WOW and other games are kinda lame to me.. I can make almost anyone, monsters, robots, Ironman, Gi Joes, Spike from Buffy.. all with powers.. you name it!!! anyways.. I doubt the game is based on Classics but rather the classic Transformers.. like G-1...

they are unfortunatley addicting...

i've had friends addicted to everquest
i used to play guild wars all the time(technically not an mmorpg, but similar)

stick with transformers, its just as addicting and you get something tangible.

On a totally side note, City of Heroes/Villains is an absolute blast. On my old server, Triumph, there was, in fact, a COBRA based villain group running around, complete with Dr. Mindbender, Cobra Commander, a Televiper and even an Alley Viper, IIRC. All of them looked absolutely perfectly like their cartoon/toy counterparts. It was freakin' great.

A Transformers MMO could be huge fun if done well. If MIcrosoft is developing it, that means it won't have the "SOE Curse" attached ( talk to many Star Wars Galaxies/Matrix Online players about that one ). It would have to be approached VERY carefully, probably closer to the CoH/CoV style MMO than the WoW style. A TF MMO, however, would have TONS of room for expansions just within the G1 universe. I could easily see an expansion based around Nebulos, adding Targetmasters and Headmasters as playable characters.

It has potential.

As I said sometimes these things only happen in japan and never make there way to north america. Microsoft is trying to make in roads into japan's gaming market and transformers is big over there so if microsoft were to make an mmorpg feature what I assume is the g1 universe they would have alot of sales over there. As I said it was flashed across the bottom of the screen during xplay's hour long coverage of tgs this evening. Also ign, gamespot, g4 don't cover every upcoming game on there websites especial if there is chance it won't make north america shores so I would keep an eye on japan's gaming sites.

Hear you there, Japan and Korea are the only places getting a Dragonball MMORPG, and while it's huge news over there, there has been little more than 2 paragraphs written about it from Europe/Americas.

Ahw, no.

A Transformers MMORPG is bad, I'm already an avid fan of Final Fantasy XI and my system can't handle these newly fangled games.

If Microsoft's making it, though, you'd hope it'd have a chance of showing up here. The TF movie made enough money you'd expect a market in it. Slag, I kept away from MMORPGs for all these years, and finally I might have to cave. If done right, this would be awesome.

It's like HMW but with graphics and playability, so a massive waste of time but not quite as dull.
