-Just adding to what Gauntlet was saying... Although I'd recommend the 1/48th scale Yamato figures, as I personally think they're a far superior to the Toynami "Masterpiece" figures any day... (if not "OMFG!"-more expensive!)

Id like to see a masterpiece Jetfire bases on Don Fig designs fro Dreamwaves G1 ongoing that was an awesome design. Stormbringer/Classics Jetfire is pretty close but it would be great to get a highly detailed Masterpiece scale version.

That's a great idea, it would go well with Prime since he's a Don Fig design too.

Masterpiece prime isn't Don Fig design...is he? I'm not even sure Don was working for Dreamwave/Transformers at the time MP Prime was designed. I believe Don Fig designed IDW Prime to look similar to MP Prime not the other way around.

Sign me up for one if Takara make them. Especially if it's Don's version.

Here it is AK, scans from Convoy booklet. These are Don Figs concept arts. This is from Ben's World of Transformers site. (http://www.bwtf.com) Check it out!

Hummmm..that does look sorta like MP Convoy but in all honesty it just looks like an updated G1 prime, the wheels are still visible at the front as are the wheel arches on the arms. The only parts that look particularly like MP Convoy are the hands, feet and windows on the sides of his truck mode. Is this defiantly a concept sketch for MP Convoy? Because other than it clearly being Convoy it doesn't look much like the final toy. Also the notes on the feet reference Armada Supercon Prime a toy that cam out around the same time as MP Convoy, and therefore might not have been available as a reference point during the design of MP Convoy.

hmm i dunno, i mean that custom skyfire toy is pretty good, but alot has changed since the first masterpiece prime came out.

Mp-01 is a pretty simple figure now. We were all wowed by the poseablity and detailing of the joints, the little matrix gimmicks and moving fingers etc...
but the new movie line toys have alot of these features in them too, so the standard to which 'masterpiece' answers for needs to be pushed furthur.

I really like the MP skywarp design, its so intricate to transform even though not as posebale and playable as prime.

lets face it, prime in alt mode is garbage.

so if they are gonna plan on making a skyfire masterpiece i really hope it's not in the same style as Mp-01 because that custom job looks kinds plain to me.

I am totally floored by this statement. Not as complex as Leader Prime in alot of ways, but also in a lot of ways way better (I have the DVD tomato soup version, but despite his slightly "off" coloring, he's grown on me quite a bit, especially when i found out he was the only Transformer I have that could do the M of YMCA)

what i meant was simple to transform, not too dismilar to the original g1 transformation. It's still a great figure in robot mode and still probably the best in terms of posebality and play value, but i would like to see the masterpiece range head more into the direction that they went with megatron and starscream.

I personally think that MP-01 is the Best Masterpiece out. Sure he lacks some extra detailing, but It's more coartoon accurate the way he is, and his altmode is fantastic.. I really am quite taken by the design. The other Masterpieces though detailed are a little more intricate, but also a little more breakable IMO.

On the Skyfire design and such, I think Don's design for MP Convoy was a rough, and his design of Skyfire in the comics pretty much came on around the whole design of MP-01 as he was released. It seemed like everyone was trying to emulate that toy in their art work after he came out. Even the guy over at Iacon city.com changed his CGI renders to mirror that toy's design. I would say that a Masterpiece SKYFIRE is an excellent choice.

He's a huge kickass seeker, whose got a gentle heart, but an iron hand when it comes to those pissing him off. Say what you will about Pat Lee and Dreamwave, but that Stormbringer series was a sweet storyline, and those battles with Skyfire and Sunstorm were just kickass!! they were gonna kill each other!! And Starscream's connection to Skyfire makes him a cool choice for a figure as well.. I think that I would have to go with the SKYFIRE name choice over that of Jetfire.. Let classics have Jetfire, and Masterpiece have Skyfire, so atleast one toy acknowledges the name from the cartoon as it should have been released in the toy...

I say do a Masterpiece somewhere's in between don's designs, and Iaconcity's cgi Renders:

http://www.iaconcity.com

Personally I think if they do a Masterpiece Skyfire, he should look like this, though heavily based on Don's art, the render has a few minor changes, for physics reasons...the animation guy felt that this design could in fact be a Masterpiece toy.. that's how he approaches each render..

I like this for the standard mode:
Image

And then this for the super Armor Mode:
Image

Here is a nice Atmospheric Altmode, for flight within the planet:
Image

Here is the Cosmic Altmode: with extra boosters for space travel, it can be explained that Jetfire's Boosters and main armor are in a hidden orbit around the Earth, somewhere above the north pole or south poles..once in the stratosphere, he can combine with them for use...

War Within Jetfire and the Masterpiece:

A render of the Skyfire VS Sunstrom Battle:

Man, that is about as close as I could find to an actual design that Takara Tomy could really use to pull off the toy's look and design that would be comparable to today's updated mechanics and looks of the Transformers..If the design of the cartoon is followed exactly, it wouldn't be pretty...

See the difference?:

Ooft! Now i am totally taken with Masterpiece Skywarp at the moment but if that badboy was announced for the Masterpiece line, the whole Transformers fandom would be dribbling uncontrollably.

I'd love to see a Sunstorm come in somewhere's down the line... that battle on my shelf would be totally awesome!!!!

If there is a Skyfire to be had down the road, i do believe that it would hit Japan and US transformers Fans with a fierocity like none ever before.. I mean this is a Bot who, with the excption of the Classics version.... has never really been made like he should have been, nor has he ever had such a huge following then like he has had through the Dreamwave and IDW comics...

I think if they do Masterpiece Skyfire, they should incorporate some gimmicks, like an opening docking bay beneath the bottom like in the Transformers episodes..and I think he should be as large as they can piossibly make him without increasing the cost to astronomic porportions..maybe an extra 60 Bucks worth of size, that way he'd cost 150.00 instead of 90.00. Or they could do it so the price point would only come in at 130.00, either way..I'd buy him at that Price point if he was larger then Prime and Megs, had great articulation, some diecast, and lots of features, and detail. Not to mention a light up helmet gimmick, and an opening cockpit.. or maybe a work panel that can open showing circuitry and stuff, like in the episode where Megatron was trying to wake him???

Or how about the removable Decepticon symbol, which can be placed over the Autobot one on his chest..it would snap into place and be removable to place in his hand..like when he said, no I'm an Autobot now!!

I would love to see him get made, finally one of the biggest autobots around..the original Iced Transformer.. i just kinda feel as if the writers for the Movie ripped off Skyfire's origin..a bit... :-?

MP Prime is based of Dons Design!
http://seibertron.com/images/comic/27/001.jpg
That was the only pic I could think of for now, but I'm very sure that the toy is based of that design!

Oh and I want a MP Jetfiere based on his design too!

MP Skyfire would be nice, but I dunno if I'd get it. I'm happy with Classics Skyfire.

MP Prime remains my fav out of the MPs. Mostly because he's so posable. Starscream is great, but the "swords" at his sides stop him from pulling off some really dynamic poses (the peg that hols them in mainly, so it's not a matter of just removing them). Megatron is a wonderful peice of engeneering, but the legs leave a bit to be desired and the arms lack a bit of posability. Prime, however, is very faithful to the cartoon in robot mode, and his alt mode, while not as good in comparison with later MPs, is still of very high quality ... he's just about the best representation of G1 Prime out there. I think he's only challenged by Hybryd Convoy, isn't he?
