Ok, so let me give you a timeline of what has happened to all my TM Megatrons in the past:
1. 5 years ago: gets Megs, opens, puts in storage box. 1 year later, gets back out to see that the plastic connecting his arm to the metal pain broke on his left arm. (his arm broke off)
2. 3 years ago: orders another, opens, follows instructions on transforming, brakes in same place while transforming.
3. 2 months ago: orders again for (his own) birthday, this time being VERY careful to transform him, even has friends help him...and he brakes in the same place, AND his head ball joint brakes off.
I mean, WTF? has this happened to anyone else, I am I doing somethig wrong, or is it just a very cheaply made toy?

Nothing wrong with mine. I'd say he's made from pretty sturdy plastic, and has taken quite a bit of punishment during storage periods.
Maybe you lot are just a little too ham-handed with him?

The Takara version is made of a much sturdier plastic. The Hasbro version seems to suffer from a version of the old GPS issue. The plastic the plastic in the arm weakens and crumbles without any stress or contact from any body. I've seen the Hasbro ones in sealed plastic with arms falling off.
My suggestion order the Takara Metals version. I've had one with no issue for years now.

But I was NOT hard on him at all, I simply lifted the shoulder pad up, then began to take his arm out and the plastic on the metal pin broke...

what is TM Megatron? I saw the thread title, and guessed you were talking about 'The Movie' or 'Transformers Movie' Megatron.

Transmetal Megatron- Megatron from the Beast Wars era. This was his second incarnation in the BW, after being upgraded.

TM Crapatron is the only TF I ever broke, and I broke 2 of them, twice at the arms, plus the head ball joint on the first one. Crappy engineering.

i own both metals megatron and the hasbro tm megatron and cant honestly see any differnce in quality. Ive never had any problems with my tm megatron who has been out of the box since its first release
despite the darker colours on the takara release looking nicer - i prefer megatrons 'name tag' to the destron tampograph used on the metals release

GPS for sure. I too had the Metals version (which was show accurate in it's coloring) and sturdy. No worries of breakage there, not even once.
You can generally find 'em on eBay for around $20-25.00 MISB

That's the problem with GPS, you don't have to be. You don't even have to touch them for the breakage to occur. It's because of the metallic flakes in the plastic (which helps to give the sparkling sheen to the plastic), they're all through the plastic, and it doesn't allow the plastic to form as solid as it should. Over time, it will degrade and the slightest touch will make the plastic break due to it's brittle nature.
If you've noticed, there's not a lot of unbroken G2 Aerialbot Slingshots. Why? Because of GPS. I bought the entire Aerialbot set when they came out, had Superion for about two months, went to move Slingshot and his head not only snapped off inside of Silverbolt's shoulder, but it actually shattered in pieces (which made for even more difficulty in removing said pieces) I tried Super Gluing him back together, and it worked...until I combined them again. He broke again, and worse the second time. I gave up, and barely ever used my Superion at that point.
GPS is a bad, bad thing. Fortunately, gold plastics have come a long way and they've figured out the mixture better.

I should've figured. Skipped the whole Beast Wars era. Do they actually have metal parts? That I've always been a fan of.

Not, just a cheap chrome finish on some of the parts.

Transmetal Megatron? Are we talking about the Transmetal t-rex Megatron, or the Transmetal dragon Megatron?
'Cause I just won an Ebay auction (finally) for R.I.D. Cryotek...

Engineering is not the issue. It's materials. Plain old GPS is the issue. I've gone through two myself and finally broke down a while ago bought the Armada recolor. No issues with him and I've had him for close to a year.

i got the Armada recolour as well, mainly as I'd gotten back into the game late on, and whilst I'd had a play about with a proper TM Megs, I'd never owned one. Really wanted it, and it was either eBay, and hope or buy the Armada Predacon sitting in TRU. He came with 2 mini-con cars too.
Anyway, not had any real problems with this version of the mold, nor the BW version when I knew someone that had that.

I loved my TM Megatron and transformed it at least 5 or 6 times a day when it was first released..... it broke maybe 3 years ago. The Waist just slipped off one day.
Quality wise? After it broke, I ordered the Jap. Version of TM Megatron and its like Night and Day in my opinion. The Jap Version rocks

Never picked up this guy, though I've thought about it recently. I love the original BW Megatron, so maybe I'll just stick to him. Great figure, that one, batwing ears and all!

For your 4th one, you should get the Takara version. Colors aren't exactly right, but it doesn't have the same flaw as the Hasbro version.

I'm sort of scared to buy one now since I generally open and TF my toys... I guess I'll hunt for a Takara one.
