Classics/Universe name change question

Can someone remind me whether Hasbro explained the reason for the name change at Botcon or any other time?

Are they fusing the two lines so that some of the new 'classics' can be repaints of cartoon line/movie toys into G1 homages?

I'm just trying to fathom why they would change names from the popular classics brand to the generally frowned upon cheap-ass repaint line brand.

First, you need to understand one thing: The Classics line was never named as such; the official name was just "Transformers" for the line. The "Classics" bit came from the two size classes: Classic Deluxe and Classic Voyager.
The movie line is also officially called just "Transformers", nothing more, nothing less. So in order to make the two lines distinguishable, "Transformers Universe" will be used again for the other line.

I hope that made sense. :-?

I know it's based on his username, but now I'll never look at Turboman's exhaust pipes quite the same way again

Yeah Universe is normally used for anything that isn't part of the main line at the time.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be interested to see what the packaging looks like - like the old classics or universe or something new.
