G1 jetfire, and the dinobots?
Altenator mirage, wheeljack, sunstreaker, shockblast, and sideswipe?
Have wanted those guys forever, but trying to decide if the high costs of them are worth it. Is it nostalgia driving it or are they really great toys?
Thanks.

how high are we talking? because those figs are generally "expensive" because of age and rarity value. but, you may think the price is high as in costing a lot, when in reality it could be a good price for something as rare as those figures.

oh I'm not complaining about the price, only wondering if the toys themselves were worth paying a good amount for or if they would be like a 100 brick.

I vote no. Just buy a reasonably priced one loose and used off ebay and play with it to your heart's content.

yes to both....
G1 Jetfire & the Dinobots have always been hot. Since Hasbro/TomyTakara most likely doesn't have the molds for the Dinos and the Jetfire mold is in Bandai's hands, there is a 99.99999% chance there will never be an official reissue of these figures.
As to the Alternators, it is due to the fact that the Alternators line was discontinued this past spring which increased their demand. Plus the figures you listed above are also the more popular of the G1 figures in the line which makes them more highly sought after unlike Rollbar & Ricochet. Plus Alternators are great transformer figures with accurate vehicle modes, complex transformations, and highly articulated robot modes.
Since the movie came out and was a huge success it has increased the demand for Transformers all around. As to whether the prices will come down, only time will tell.

Can't really get around paying high prices for originals of course. Jetfire and the Dinobots are really popular so that doesn't help either.
I'd look elsewhere for Alts, and only resort to eBay if you manage to find a good deal or give up. They are still found in stores, in certain areas.

I'd say "yes. but only if I'm the one selling them" only, that's not likely, as sadly, I don't have any of them.
If you really must have it, and you have the money, and aren't thinking "oh but I want this, oh but I want that" then I'd go with it. If there's a lot of doubt, and you think it's too much, then no.

As others have said, they are cool collectibles. I still have all my original G1 Dinobots and Jetfire safely packed away!
The Alternators are well worth considering! There are reasonable deals to be had on eBay; if you find an amiable seller! Rodimus, Shockblast and Nemesis Prime are now in my modest new Transformers collection.
Happy hunting.

Yes to the G1s, no to the Alternators.
G1 figures are relatively hard to find in good condition, so I think it's worth spending a little more on them.
Alternators are still everywhere (sometimes TRU even has the last wave), and if you don't care about packaging you could probably find some loose ones for close to retail price if you're lucky. I wouldn't spend more than $60 on any Alternator, unless it's a convention exclusive, then my limit would be $80.

As for the Alternators, Mirage will usually set you back between $60-90...I know, I've been trying to pick him up for a while now. The others will probably go up to around $50-60 at the highest, that of course is if your going for still in the box items. Sunstreaker I won for $20 plus shipping

Alternators are da bomb IMO but I bought most of mine when they came out and didn't pay over retail so its up to you if you want to pay the inflated prices.
A nice alternative to G1 Dinobots are WST Dinobots. They are really nice and have to be seen to be believed.

Yeah the WST Dinobots are really cool. I got Grimlock because I like WSTs and I know they'll never reissue the G1 toy.

It's ebay, remember? You're going to pay through the nose for popular stuff. I just paid $24 for Concept BB simply because I can not find one ANYWHERE BUT EBAY.
G1 Jetfire: Make sure he hasn't "yellowed". A piss-yellow Jetfire just doesn't look good. Also, be careful with his front landing gear spring and wings.
I have a Sunstreaker, and would LOVE to get another since mine is kind of beat-up. Not the greatest of the G1 line, but he has nostolgic value, plus he does look pretty cool.
Alternators: Man, those things piss me off! Not only were the good ones impossible to find, but you'll be paying a LOT for them on evilBay. They were very poorly distributed to stores, sadly.
If these things are what you really want, and you are getting them for yourself to own and keep, then go for it. I really like my G1 Jetfire, and Sunstreaker, and some of the Alternators are really good. Be careful with the Dinobots, some of them could be missing stuff since they tend to break I think it's either Sludge or Snarl that have a breaking problem somewhere with their legs/feet, and Swoop's beak breaks easily too.
