completely new toy!
Yea, cos he isn't really a proper reissue, he's a Soundblaster repaint.
Does that let him count as a completely new figure, since he's not a proper Soundwave, nether a Soundblaste- he's a Hybrid
Can we look at him as a new figure, ore not?
YOU decide!

None of the Soundwave reissues can be called a proper Soundwave reissue. The original mold was damaged beyond repair a long time ago.Every reissue done by Takara since has been of the Soundblaster mold with a Soundwave tape door.
The difference in the two molds is the tape botton area .......the original mold featured seperate bottons while the Soundblaster and all the reissues have had the bottons molded together.
Here are a few pics....................................
G1 original from 1984

Takara Dreamwave boxed reissue

TRU reissue

As you can see all the reissues are different from the original. So calling the TRU reissue a "completely new toy" wouldnt be right......you would have to call the first Takara reissue the new toy.

A modifyed repaint would be more accurete.........because of the tape deck size being different from the Soundblaster mold.

Very interesting observation. I always noticed that the TRU and ENCORE versions had the buttons sticking out much further than my "original" Cassette Man Soundwave KO. Now I see the my Cassette Man also has separate buttons too.

I wouldn't call it a new toy, just a retooled/recoloured SoundBlaster

He's still Soundwave to me. I've never seen the Blaster version. I only remember the G1 Blaster, and he was bigger and completely different.

Not to put down the toy, its fantastic, and its more then good enough to qualify it as Soundwave, as soon as I can get one, I'll treasure it.

How about we call it the toy we all wanted as a kid...a Soundwave that could hold two cassettes like the tv show one did.

I'd rather call him the 'Freckin darndest blasted toy to find in any garshdarn Toys R Us in the country and now have to pay a fortune on Evilbay to own one garsh darn it" toy. With more cussing. But thats just too long a name...

Does anyone know if there are any other mould changes, other than the buttons? So if you stripped a G1 SW and put the buttons on Reissue SW, would there be any further differences?

I don't think you could do that.
The blue plastic which would be between the buttons would not be present on the reissue torso. (I think..)

I don't know if many others feel the same way but I really like the TRU reissue. I like the detailing on the deck, which seems to be absent on the original and Takara reissue (although present on Soundblaster).

Soundblaster is a Soundwave mold but with a bigger chest that holds two cassettes. So he is considered a reissue.

Sundblaster is not made from the same mold as Soundwave. The original Soundwave mold was dammaged beyond repair before 1989.It is a re-tooled mold that was used for Soundblaster and all the Soundwave reissues.
Here I'll post the pics again and I circled the difference from the original.
Original Soundwave.

Original Soundblaster

Takara Reissue Soundwave

As you can see the difference is in the bottons. One the original they are seprate peases but on the Souldblaster and all the reissues they are molded together.
So he really isnt a reissue. He is a remold.

it has been probably 10 years since i have held my g1 soundwave in my hands...but didnt he have solid wrists where all the soundblasters and reissues have that rectangular gap.
was that present on the original and my memory is just warped?

I'm not sure I get what your saying but just look at the photoes I posted befpre..the firat is from the 1984 toy cataloge so it should answer your question.
