What brought you into the game?

I'm curious, what series made you a Transformers fan?

I was there for the G1, and collected for 3 years. But took a 20 year hiatus, only to be brought back in by the Classics series. Now in one year I've gone from 20 TFs to a little over 300.

Fun, but expensive hobby. :D

Four Years ago I saw Armada SideSwipe on a car forum (it's a Skyline GT-R) and I had to have a Skyline Transformer, then I saw Uincron and was like "Wow, they finally made one", and then I saw Reissue Thundercracker and said "Wow, my favorite Decepticon", and then I bought 1500 Transformers plus the ones I still had as a kid and have about 1700 today including almost all of the US G1 figures (I'm missing like 5 figures).

My very first TF was a G1 Sideswipe.
I saw that red Countach and just HAD to have it.

Now 20+ years later, the movie comes out and my habit is reborn (and passing onto my son as well...the cha-ching of the cash registers forever ringing in my ears!)

Still have the G1 toys in a tupperware in the garage somewhere...Sideswipe, the Insecticons, Constructicons, Aerialbots, Thrust and Grimlock off the top of my head. They are all stashed away with a nice Hotwheels carrying case full of old Hotwheels too

same here. Except instead of G1, it was the "g2" tv show and g2 toys, but my uncle and grandma got me alot of g1 toys that they were finding in comic shops. (I was born in '87, didn't have any transformers til christmas of '90, and watched reruns of g1, until g2 came on about a year or so later).

and then I took a nice little break during the downtime between g1/g2 and beast wars. Beast wars really got me back into it. And then took another break after being very disapointed with beast machines. Got back into it alittle bit with RiD, but I didn't care for the show so much until scourge and the combaticons hit the scene. That was cool as hell. Then took another break, got back into it with the Dreamwave g1 and armada comics, and then the armada toys. Saw the armada tv show about halfway through and got bored with the 3 kids. But then when I heard about Unicron and then saw him myself at botcon, I got brought back in probably for good. I basically lived off the comic series dreamwave had going, and more or less half the toyline that came out until cybertron. Picked up a majority of the ones I liked.

When I was little I got a couple of G2 TFs here or there. A golden Bumblebee and a blue Grimlock are all I remember. I always thought they were cool, and somehow I started collecting Beast Wars when they first came out. Not only that, but I got into the show. Soon after they went transmetal I lost interest, but this summer I watched the entire BW series--likely due to the movie rekindling other internet denizens' fandom.

Last month I realized, "Hey, I'm sitting on a fair amount of money. Why not start getting TFs again?" I'm expanding my interest beyond BW now, nabbing a few from recent toy lines here and there. I'm watching the original TV series too, just to familiarize myself with the characters!

Back in 84 around my birthday Go Bots came out. My mom showed me them in the flyer and asked me if I wanted some for my birthday and I was all over it. Vehicles, robots, what couldn't I like?

Towards the end of that school year Transformers (G1) came out which were automatically cooler. They generally were bigger and had better looking vehicles and transformations. Starscream was the first one I got.

The last G1 figure I picked up was flattop, and I was really too old for toys at that point.

Then there was a break. I used to sometimes check out G2 stuff at the store, but I didn't have money to "waste" on toys at the time.

I came back for Beast Wars and got totally into the show and started getting some of those figures (when I was in University). I had some Beast Machines figures, which I liked ok...

Then a longer break. I would pick up the odd RID figure (Megatron, combaticons), but I didn't like the cartoon. I got Armada Starscream, but wasn't too into Armada overall.

It wasn't until Unicron came out that I really came back. I wanted a Unicron figure since I was a kid and when I saw they were making a figure of him for Armada I had to have it. At the time I thought it was a lot for a figure, little would I realize how easily I spend money on the figures now and Unicron is nowhere near the most I've paid for things.

Energon was cool and had lots of hommages (Galvatron, Shockblast) to keep me interested and the TRU reissues were cool (if kind of expensive). At that point I had dug out all of my old stuff and started cleaning Spawn, wrestling and Turtle figures away to make lots of room for Transformers.

I've been buying practically everything since Cybertron. There's some odd figures here and there I don't have, but I have most everything since then. I also got serious about back filling my G1 and Beast Wars figures and have been spending a fair bit since. :)

It's been fun, though...

Initially I wanted to collect only Masterpiece figures. But the release of the Classics and Movie gave me a wider selection of TF product to choose from. Now I'm into those lines though I'm eagerly awaiting the next masterpiece

It all started with Shogun Warriors and their television cartoon-anime: Force Five in the early 1980's. Soon the Shoguns were gone but my passion for transforming robots was still insatiable. Fast forward to the spring of 1984, Gobots had just come out and a couple of months later there was a television commercial for a new Marvel comic called the Transformers. I bought the comic and a few months later the toys came. I was then the proud owner of the very first wave of Megatron(literally the first day Toys R Us got him in) and the rest is history. :)

I had lots of G1 Transformers as a kid. My grandfather and parents gave them to me, usually for Christmas. For a few years I was really into Transformers. Eventually my interest waned and I regretfully sold them all at a garage sale. Little did I know how much I'd regret that decision later.

Then, a few years ago, I sam Alternators Sideswipe and Smokescreen in the store. I thought they looked great but was shocked at the $20 price and didn't know where I'd put it if I bought one.

A few weeks later, on an impulse, I bought Sideswipe. Loved it. A day later I bought Smokescreen, and eventually 20th Anniv Prime. At the time spending $55 on a Transformer was a major deal to me.

My collection just picked up from there. I bought all the Alts as they came out, and also started buying G1 reissues and older G1 figures.

After buying and watching all the G1 series on DVD, I was a bit depressed about it being all over so I allowed myself to watch Beast Wars with an open mind. Despite the "video game cutscreen" animation, I loved the show and branched off into collecting all the show figures.

Now I must have over 600 figures, including all the Masterpieces and many Botcon exclusives. These days, spending $55 on Transformers seems like a pretty cheap week. My ;atest addition was $300 for Botcon 2005 Ratchet.

I loved BW but my parents never let me buy any toys except 1 (Terrorsaur). When I saw the movie back in July, I got into TFs for real and started buying the movie toys. :) Now I'm pretty much done with most of the movie toys I want, so I'm buying the BW toys I like and some G1 stuff if I can ever get a deal.

I tuned into the original show as a kid, and even though my parents never liked Transformers so much, I managed to get a few for Christmases and birthdays. Blaster and Cyclonus were favorites. Alas, when I moved out, my parents gave away them all. I never did have combiners, Prime, Starscream, or god forbid Megatron.

Then by a weird fluke I played the Transformers Tataki game for PS2. And I realized that as a grown-up, I could have all the Transformers I wanted.

I have about 150 on display now (with some in storage and others tragically lost during my recent move to Chicago) and I'm sitting pretty with that till Animated comes out.

I started with G1, Convertors, and GoBots back in the day, but faded around the time the Pretenders came out. Then a few years ago I saw a 20th Prime on sale ULTRA-cheap at a Wal Mart as part of an after Christmas sale, and got hooked again.

Well, naturally for someone like me G1 got me into it at first. Then Beast Wars got me thinking about it again.

But MP Prime got me into buying the toys again. He was just too tempting and after that ... I'm hooked! A TF addict!

G1. I was 9 years old, and my brother was 11. Our parents never bought us the "big" toys, so we always got pieces of gestalts. (Deadend, Wildrider, Afterburner etc.)

Anyway, lost interest around the time "pretenders" were coming out. Didn't get back into collecting toys again until the Transmetal saga of Beast Wars was airing on KTLA Channel 5. My brother and I collected everyone in the show. Followed it up with RiD toyline, and stopped. We skipped the whole Armada/Energon/Cybertron saga. It was the movie that got us back to collecting. :)

G1 was in my prime toy years so I had a ton of them. I picked up some G2's out of nostalgia but only got a few.

Then I was in Wal-Mart last Feb and saw Classics Bumblebee, flipped the card over and saw a pic of Rodimus and I was hooked again. (Hot Rod was my favorite G1 toy).

I found this site by trying to find more pics of Classics Rodimus. Another week or so later I finally found it at a store and I've gone crazy since then.

G1. i never saw the complete series because the show was syndicated in our local cable channel waaay back then, and they only had a few episodes being rerun every saturday morning. nevertheless, we all loved it, and when they got hold of season 3 of G1, we were hooked.

plus, it helped that my parents bought me a Grimlock here, a micromaster there and Aerialbot Slingshot (and a few other G1 stuff) in between.

sadly, during G2 & Beast Wars, interest waned due to "Trukk not Munky" syndrome, and i passed ALL the lines until a friend of mine lent me his Beast Wars: the Gathering comic book. man, did my jaw ever drop. watched a few episodes of season 1 BW, then eventually got DVD copies of all the seasons, and along with it the discovery of international shipping on eBay.

it didn't help that it was about this time that the movie toys started appearing. 8) :P

G1...the last Transformer I got before the Movie toys was Headmaster Fangry. So that was what, 1989? For 18 years, Transformers and I were "on a break", and the movie woke up my inner child. Now I've got around 60, and that's just since July.

Believe it or not, R.I.D.
Why, because they were cars again.
I had picked up other ones before that
like Tripredicus, TM2 Megatron, you know
the bigger cooler ones but was more into Star Wars
and Spawn at the time.
Then R.I.D rolls out and I've been hooked ever since.
