2 questions about Voyager/Leader Megs and Leader Brawl

Between Leader and Voyager Megatron, which one should I get? Or should I just skip them both?

Part of me is really not impressed with either Megatrons. Voyager would be find if it weren't for that stupid fake ice-annoying! :-x But then, Megatron is supposed to be BIG, not average. So, then there is leader class. But then you also have a crappy alt mode. I keep spinning around and around thinking about this.

It sucks not to have Prime paired with a worthy Decepticon leader, you know?

Why get Leader Brawl? I mean, he looks great, transforms great, and he kicks the pants off of Leader Megatron in looks, style, and even articulation. But he's such an insignificant character.

Man, this is a lot of money. If I get all 3, that's a $100 right there, and frankly, they're not worth it. So, I'm trying to limit myself to just one.

Get the Leader Class version.

The Voyager Class has foot problems (basically they transform once he's picked up. Something about a spring, from what I hear.) and the ice as you mentioned.

The Voyager Class has an even crappier alt mode. You basically swing the arms into place, bring out the nosecone, hide the face, fold up the feet and snap the wings in place.

The Leader Class's alt mode isn't all that bad. Could be better, but it's nowhere near as bad as the Voyager's. The legs actually have to transform, the chest actually comes away from the spine to help form the fuselage of the vehicle mode. The wings and nosecone have a neat Automorph together.
He actually has a transformation, Voyager Class basically just folds up in spots and lays down. Leader Class actually folds up, snaps in place, etc.

Leader Class Brawl is one of the better figures of the Movie line...

Unlike the Deluxe Class version, no problems with the arms (no tabs to worry about locking in place, etc.)

He has quite a few cool electronic features (move the machine gun turret and it fires, press a button on it and it fires. Push the main turret in and it fires. Once in robot mode, when you activate the Automorph, all the lights and sounds activate at once and it's a really cool effect.)

His Automorphs are cool. His head/chest, his weapons, his vehicle to robot transformation. (You press the headlights in, and the front fenders automatically pop loose and swing back into place for their position in robot mode.)

He's quite posable, considering he looks like a brick statue. (Once you have him in hand, you'll see) Knee, hip, finger, elbow, shoulder, head posability (some of those are slightly limited due to the construction).

He might've had limited screen time, but he's one impressive figure, and one of the most intricate of the movie line.

$80.00 for him and Leader Class Megatron is definitely worth it. I bought all three Leader Class figures and I don't regret it one bit.

I'd get Leader Megatron over Brawl. Especially if you're willing to repaint Leader Megs - he becomes almost a new figure and getting rid of the spring in the fusion cannon (the manufacturer's fault, not the toy's design itself) really makes him not so bad.

I wouldn't get Brawl unless he's on discount or he was on a good deal like what you're talking about. I'm not sure if the movie Leaders are better than the cybertron leaders, but anyhow Megs and Brawl are worth it.

Get Leader Megs. Although he really sucks ... he takes more than 5 seconds to transform.(voyager megs really sucks in this dept.)

Plus, Leader megs has the most potential for a custom repaint. You can pose him with Leader prime as well.

Voyager Megs - the ice, ewww. No matter how much paint you use it's still there. You can't take the ice off either, unless you really want an even more dumb looking figure.

Brawl, well ... he's a must have in my book.

Leader Megs. The weapons are neat, the sculpt looks good, and he can terrorize your other figures.

If you get the voyager, you have to watch out for quality control! You can end up with one with 2 right ice-wingtips.
Also the head does not can not will not look straight forward. It always wants to turn to the left.

Get Leader Megs... much better than Voyager...

Why? No plastic ice.

Leader Megatron. Because a rudamentary repaint makes him sooo much better, and is not tortured with the ice.

Just tossing it out there... The voyager Megs has so much negative feedback about him, but don't forget the Best Buy metallic exclusive Megatron. Only a little over a week away.

Even the Best Buy Metallic Megatron has ice on him which I don't like.

Sportimus, as much as you seem to hate the ice on Voyager Megatron, I'd suggest you drop him from consideration.

That said, I'm going to stick up for him anyway :P.

Voyager Megatron has a very sleek looking alt mode. Yes, his robot feet stick out the back and you can see his robot face(though no as easily as on the Leader version); however, I think the overall look of the figure makes up for the kibble. Otherwise, it has some nice sculpted details. My only complaint is that the wing tips are made from soft plastic, so they have to stay in to avoid warping. As to the ice, I didn't know it was ice when I first saw it. I though it was some kind of energy field. Either way, I especially like the look on the wings.

His transformation is piss simple; I'll admit that. Really, it's only slightly more complicated than Vector Prime. But considering the obtuse transformations in a lot of other Movie figures, a simple transformation isn't much to complain about.

Megatron's robot mode is actually pretty poseable. The "foot problem" people mention does exist, but it's not as terrible as people make it out to be. Any weight on a foot at all is enough to keep it splayed, and since Megatron's ankles are on ball joints, it's not at all difficult to pose him. I don't know about the head problem an above poster mentioned. Mine's head moves just fine. You still have the ice, but again, it doesn't bother me.

Well, that's my story.

Like I said, if it's all about the ice, don't pick him up. Or wait a few months. The shelves around here are packed with Voyager Megatrons, so you might be advised to go the Leader version simply because he's been out longer.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

I don't have either version of Megatron right now because neither appealed to me so listen to the others about which version they prefer. However, I did just finally open my Leader Brawl last weekend and, despite my skepticism beforehand about him-namely leg kibble, only semi-jointed feet, etc.-he's a great figure. He's good in alt. mode and looks great in robot mode, easy to pose too.

I plan on doing a little touch up painting to him and a wash or lining of some sort but straight out of the box, he’s a great figure.

Okay, well I guess it is now down to between Leader Megatron and Leader Brawl. Which one, which one...?

I own both and I'd go with Megs. My Brawl won't stay in his alt mode because of the faulty automorph. Megatron is easily repainted. After a couple of days, mine turned out like this:Image

Holy crap that looks good!

So the Mighty Leader Brawl has problems after all, eh? Good to know.

At least mine does, one of his sides keeps triggering with even the slightest touch. He looks damn good in his bot mode though so I don't really mind.

Thanks everyone. I really wanted to take advantage of HTS's discount sale by getting a leader class figure. I decided on Leader Megatron. $32 ain't bad at all. :)

I appreciate all of your advice.

That really depends on a few things. You want a better toy? Or a more well known character for display? And are you going to get Megatron painted?

Toy-wise, Brawl wins hands down, by a big margin as well. No competition on playbility, posebility, stability, electronics & looks. Right out of the box, Brawl wins in all of the above categories. And again, by a big margin on each category. Brawl only loses on being who he is...Brawl. A nobody that only have limited screen time.

Megatron is butt ugly without a paint job. His head actually is very nicely sculpted & detailed. And his overall proportion is not too bad. The paint & plastic just completely destroyed his look. But he can't pose too well with limited range on many joints. No neck joint. And thanks to the automorph flimpsy toes & no ankle, he is going to fall forward in most action pose, minus a static stand. His fusion cannon can be fun once you swap the spring. But again, playability, articultion, gimmick, electronics...all overshadowed by Brawl. But if you are patient enough and has a little painting skills, you can turn Megatron into a pretty good looking display piece, and a well worthy display along side with Prime.

So Brawl wins hands down as a toy, but we all know that there is always a part of us that wants a Megatron, just because he is Megatron, no matter how sucky the toy design is. And mine you, I am not trying to bash Meg. I like mine a lot too, but only after a lot of effort to get him look pretty. I can do many poses with Brawl & Prime. But for Megatron, I run out of poses really quickly. Either he doesn't look good in it, or he just can't balance good enough from not falling after a while.

I didn't really care for Megatron until I started working on him. I bought him from one of my friends that tried to customize him and screwed it up pretty bad. I paid $10 for him and I got him in pieces, minus his electronics, springs, and gears for his chest automorph. I put him back together and promptly put him into my closet, he didn't deserve to be standing next to anything else on my shelves.

Once I started messing around with him though, my views started to change very quickly. Now hes on my top shelf along with leader Prime, leader Brawl, and my masterpiece robotech collection.
