Hey, I've been wondering if anyone ever got this version of Sky Garry
I know it's not Takara, but looking at the $100 pricemark
You know, I got rent!
Anyhow, if anyone does have it could you describe the overall quality of the item, as if it's crap, I'll just shell the extra $200 (eventualy) and go for the goods.
Thanks for any input you may have.

He's not too bad. I got him for $35 about two years ago. Look for the Korean version, the plastic is just as good and should be cheaper. However, after a quick view on eBay, it seems ppl are selling the Korean for the same price as the Jap. Gotta watch 'em. Your pic is the Korean version.
Here's a pic with the gang.

or

The plastic is nice, not brittle. Colours are cool, black and red with some yellow. Comes with a Micromaster, nice. I never applied the stix, but it comes with some Brave symbol on his chest.
Here's what the G1 Sky Garry is like.
http://www.tfu.info/1991/Cybertron/SkyGarry/skygarry.htm...and here's a good resource for the Brave series.
http://www.geocities.com/futuristgroup/vkorea2.htmlAll in all, I like the fig, and MM partner. I personally don't think he's worth over a $100, but I missed on Brave Dug Base(Grandus) and had to drop that much and then some, so I understand.

That was a ton of great information. And I do recall seeing him for around the $35 mark, but at he time, I didn't know who he was
Still, I wasn't sure if this rendition was gonna suffer from that cheap Happy Well plastic that shatters on itself.
You know what I'm talking about I'm sure, the KO's that are so poorly remolded that they can't even transform correctly.
Around the holidays I buy those at my supermarket and let the good figures I have fun killing them
But you know how it is, for $100 plus shipping, I don't wanna buy some crap.
Also, that Dai Atlas that you have, vintage or remake as I've see them every once in a blue moon as well.
If it's a remake, same question...

The plastic on the Korean Death Garry(Sky Garry) is top notch. It was licsened by Takara to Sonoking(?). Anyway, the plastic is very good and you wouldn't be disappointed in that.
Dia Atlas is a KO. I picked him up from Toy Hell about two years ago for $25. The dead give away is the "Batman" symbol on his wing. I just say back in college and woke up with that after a long nite of Energon binging. I was talking about it in another thread but now I can't find it. The plastic is ok, not great, he makes it through every transformation without any problems. However, after two years, there are a few stress marks. The Micromaster that came with it is grey with no paint apps and is pretty shoddy. DA came with all of his accesories and the motor works well. I keep meaning to race him against the Re-issue Star Convoy, but currently, both are packed away.
If you every find him cheap, you should get him, he's a fun transformer to X-form.

Thanks for the heads up on all this!
Again, I don't mind paying, I just wanna be sure it's worth paying for!
I'm not to keen on anything retail coming out in the near future, so I decided in 2008, I'm just gonna take my TF budget and score the vintage heavy hitters!
Of course I'd love everything to be MSIB vintage Takara, but still, I have nothing against the same figure in different packaging as long as it's of quality.
Besides, if I can score a cheap remake Dai Atlas, Sky Garry, Sonic Bomber...
It can go to the front while the real expensive one stayes safe in stasis(in the box). Of course that is assuming I can find and afford it.

I just wish Takara would re-issue Sky Garry & Grandus(although Grandus is a little on the large side) so I could have a complete Battle Star. It's like re-issuing Soundwave & not the rest of the Cassetticons. Oh wait....that did happen. Anyways, I don't like all the red on Sky Garry....too much for my tastes.....but to each his own.

Agreed, not only is StarConvoy lonely, but I keep seeing the picks of all the bots united and it's killing me that I cant finish it at the moment.
Especialy Grandus! He's so dam rare it's not even funny.
I have a second TF room that I'm not realy using at the moment though. Actualy it's more of a real big crawl space. By the end of 2008, I realy wanna have all the larger base bots set up in there. All the action master and micromaster sets can wait.
I already have Metroplex, Brave Max, Omega Supreme, Trypticon, Star Convoy(I had Scorponock, but foolishly traded him off years ago). I wanna get all the Zone bots, and BattleStars that goin together now along with OverLord and both Zaraks and set up a kick ass display!
Throw in a Victory Saber, and Deathsaurus, and I know I'll be looking at a $4000+ bill, but it'll be worth it as people in my family die early, so screw old age!

Grandus is small and boring. He would make a nice Micromaster repaint of Fortress Maximus.

I agree on Grandus, but it's more of a completionist want than anything. To me he looks like an apartment complex with arms a head and for some reason a wall missing
Still, I want him!
Buy the way, everything cased, very nice, I'm feeling a tad green. Congrats though keep them safe!
I have to ask though, seeing them all boxed and lovely, how long have you had them for, if you got them recently, how much did they set you back?
I have reissue StarConvoy, but want a dup. If you got those recently though and can recomend a fair seller, I'd be happy to take any lead advice I can get, and when the time is right, give my money to the right people.
However, if they are yours from back in the day, or you shelled out in the hunt, I tip my hat to you. For me those are items worth being proud of.

Thanks for the compliments!
I shelled out for these. The Star Convoy is special to me, that was my grail as well as my favorite character. I got him before the reissue so I paid a pretty penny. I actually have 5 Star Convoys, 1 Original sealed, 1 Original loose, and 3 Reissues. For the reissues I get them on e-bay. The Sky Garry I got on e-bay for under $100 bucks about 2 years ago...I have no idea why no one bid on him, but no one did and he is in awesome condition. The Grandus I bought for around $480 and is in perfect condition. Be careful when trying to buy him as many are yellowed.

Thats the beauty of Ebay, every now and then, no ones looking and you can get a rea good deal.
I find the worst time to look for a figure though is right after Ryan posts a gallery. When that happens, I put that figure search off for at least a month!
Still that is an impressive collection, and that many Star Convoy's, WOW!
However I understand the idea of wanting something both boxed and loose, especialy when it comes to vintage. Again, I want to do a base set up this coming year. I already have Omega, and Metroplex, but they are boxed, so even though I have them, I want to find seconds at a fair price. On the same note, I have Trypticon loose, so I wanna find a boxed second for prosperity.
It is a matter of timing though.
There's alot of Star Saber's out right now, but they're yellowed to hell. If they were cheap, I'd say okay, and leave them as open figures, but since they're asking the same as mint, it's an easy pass.
As hold overs, I don't mind the idea of Korean repaints as they are more afordable, and I wouldn't mind opening them.
But for what you just shared here, I'd make room in the glass cases, and at some point, I will!

I have Dug/Dag Base(recolour of Grandus for the Brave line). I don't have buyer's remourse, but should have got him when he was under $100.
He's in the center in between Star Convoy and Dia Atlas. He's short but bulky. I want Grandus but he's the same size as this guy and I'm not going to pay much over a $100 for him if he's Re-issued.

I remember seing a MISB Grandus going for about $110 on Ebay last year. Couldn't believe I missed the end of the auction, I think I was watching tv or something.

And
nobody realized that is a licensed Sky Garry repaint
for the Brave series in Korea?! I'm appalled!
Yes, Korea got some repaints for the Brave line that Japan never got to the best of my knowledge, all of them TF repaints Here's the line-up:
- Death Garry Gun: repaint of Sky Garry, with three Microtrailers, unnumbered.
- Goryu (White Dragon): repaint of Dai Atlas
- Hiryu (Red Dragon): repaint of Sonic Bomber. Can still combine with Dai Atlas/Goryu
And I believe Red Geist, a repaint of Deszaras belongs to the group, but I'm not sure.

Go read page 1 JelZe GoldRabbit. It was one of the first things that came out in this topic.
It's all good though.
In truth, I'm more than willing to go reissue than vintage. I know the braging rights are lessened, but when you can buy that bot, plus have money for more, who cares!
Korean reissues don't bother me as I have never had any dirrect exposure to the BattleStars, or Zone series.
So basicly, my plan is, just be a careful shopper, if I can get a red Sky Garry, or a batman Dai Atlas, or a less than perfect(but complete) for cheap and enjoy them, well why not?
It'll only let me enjoy the figure today while saving for a nice MIB for later. Nothing wrong with that!
However if someone could recomend a good online store besides BBTS, or Ebay, that would be awesome!

The only thing about Grandus is that the Brave one doesn't have the tow hook for Star Convoy, though I think the colors on the Brave one in robot mode are really good.

The only good thing about a figure like that is that you don't mind playing with it! Plus if it's complete and you find a clean incomplete, you can make a nice full bot.
Again I've been seeing alot of yellowed Star Sabers lately, it they weren't going for top dollar, I'd place a bid, just cause I know It would be going to the front.

I also have all the figures you are discussing in this thread...
Ko Dai Atlas
Takara Vintage Dai Atlas
Takara Vintage Sonic Bomber
Takara Vintage Roadfire
KO Death Garry
Re-Issue Star Convoy (No vintage)
Vintage Grandus
The KO's are great, and high quality. KO DeathGarry's micromaster is head and shoulders above KO Dai's. Both are worthy place holders until one can afford the real version.
As far as Grandus goes, I like him a lot. He is one of the best MM bases, and he comes with one of the best MMs made.
There is a somewhat cheaper Grandus look alike out there. It is the Brave Dugbase, although I do not own it, but I have seen. The accessories are mostly gone, but some of the sculpt is a little different, but overall the design is the same, I believe.

The Plane bot on the top of the link you provided, I had a KO of him. He was very poor quality, and didn't transform right or even hold together.
This is why I satarted this thread, I was leary about shekking out $100+ for something of subpar quality, Fortunatly the plane only cost me $10, he came with a crane, both died well
Still I can't thank everyone enough for the amount of advice I've been give here!
